-1 would you be ok with a screenshot thread if I made one? (where people compile the screenshots you have posted so far)
i'm pretty sure they're already in the links provided above.
right?

Well I thought maybe a dedicated thread would stil be easier for people to "wade" trough.
That seems awefully suggestive...not sure if I should get my hopes up or not. Guess I would be hoping regardless so ya.

Harmy, just want to say you did a great job on this man!
Happy birthday man!
Personally I wouldn't mind stuff like the recomposits etc (provided they have the original starfields/backrounds etc).
I'd also like to see things like mattes fixed so you don't have those ugly green boxes around ships in some shots. (I guess that would've been less visible on actual film)
One pet peeve of mine has always been the redness in darth vaders eyes in some shots. Now I don't know if you could see that in the theathrical versions due to contrast/brightness differences. But it is rather inconsistent. Playing around with GIMP a little I found that if you desaturate the red parts of the eyes (and only the red parts) you end up with pretty natural black looking eyes.
I suppose for changes I don't "Mind" but stil wouldn't like to see fixed if possible. Stuff like the speeder blob.
With the han shot first scene. Is it stil better than the gout (overall) quality wise or is it just technicly a higher resolution?
The video you posted of it looked pretty ok.
I'm going with either someone has a profesional scanner (likely option)
Or someone has die prints (less likely I guess...it depends)
edit: I'm not having a good day today, sorry for double posting!
I'll see if I can merge the posts.
No he already confirmed that project is stil on the books.
There's "something" thats supposed to be better that might come in a few years.

And I just found out I’m stupid and can’t read. Sorry guys >_<;
.
1983 and 1995 links are the same 1990
70mm would be insane, but I'm not getting my hopes up THAT much.
Someone with die printed stock that retains all of the original coloring?
Possibly of all three films. And maybe this person has a proffesional scanning machine?
That's not what anyone's saying, what's being said is that if you lose some details at a higher resolution, when scaled down it'll be much less noticable than if I lost that detail by applying a filter at say 1080p.
Of course! I mean even Bruce Wayne doesn't like crappy cgi in his original trilogy!
The original trilogy was scanned in at 2K resolution. (which is slightly higher than 1080p, actually they might've been scanned in at 1080p...not sure about that one)
"DNR" or "Digital noise reduction" gets rid of film noise but blurs the image slightly and you lose detail.
What he's suggesting is to scan the film in at 8K resolution (insanely high) and apply DNR at that level. That way the film will be slightly blurred, but because it is done at such a high resolution, it won't be as noticable and the film will retain alot of detail when scaled back to 1080p for bluray and 2K/4K for cinema projection purposes.
It's Bruce Wayne isn't it?
He's not the film restoration guy we deserve, but he's the one we need!
Well sounds good to me.
But is it like a "new" project that uses elements from this one? Or has the project morphed into this new thing?
edit: Ofc that would mean the "upcoming" release would just be an intermediary release. So I suppose its really its own new project.
Same
^^I have to agree that it's a little "lame" to drop a bomb like that and then make us wait "a few years".
Would've been better not to mention it at all.
Regardless it sounds like it's good news, but does it mean we WON'T have a workprint next month? (And hopefully a release soon)
I'm afraid the longer the project takes the more time George Lucas has to C&D you guys.
Would anyone who thinks they know care to pm me with their speculation? The suspense is killing me.
This wait is getting worse all the time! :D
Could it be episode 6?
This is cryptic man.
