Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

I've stayed away for a while because I didn't want to be sad over the fact that I don't have a blu-ray burner and would have freaked to know the blu-ray version is available.  Hahaha, how pathetic is that?

But, I've found a friend with such a burner, and now I hear there's a 2.1. in the works - so my delay is obviously retroactive genius. Mwahahaha.

I'll still have to figure out how to download the thing - I've such a tech-challenged fool.  Hey, I'm OLD.  Well, not really - but I was old enough to be driving (just barely) when Star Wars first came out, so you do the math - heheh.  (I had actually been driving about a week when I first saw Star Wars, and the gang driving home with me afterwards was not pleased when I inadvertently stated pretending I was an X-Wing pilot on a tight highway cloverleaf interchange.  Um, nearly wiped out - but it was the first clue I had that the movie had REALLY gotten under my skin.)

Anyway, just dropping in to say my usual THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to Harmy.  I know most everyone here has seen v2 already, but I will wait patiently a bit longer for uber-rad super-cool version 2.1.  Yay!

Pfft, I'll go you one better (or worse) - I don't even know what myspleen is.

Though I can figure it out from context.  Damn, I'm old.  Eh, my computer set-up would likely take days to download something like this, even if I knew how.

But ... if anyone could answer a question for an old geezer who got his drivers licence about the same time Star Wars came out in '77, I'd appreciate it:

What's the difference between the download file that's apparently available now and the blu-ray file(s) that Harmy is planning to release later?  I'm not in any hurry, but I would so love to be able to watch Harmy's 2.0 at some point.

I've been away for a while, and it was nice to see Mverta posting here. I definitely recommend taking him up on any offer to help, as he's been the other largely unsung hero with amazing efforts at restoring Star Wars.

As I understand it, there's a slightly different restoration philosophy between Mverta and Harmy, but both of them are absolute heroes.  I wish I could contribute more than gushing praise to either of their projects.

Sigh, I couldn't wait any longer.  I watched version 1 last night.  Last time was with a group - but I wanted to watch alone so I could savor the taste of delicious 1977 Star Wars. So yummy.

I'm pretty darned satisfied with version 1.  I hope to have a bluray burner by the time version 2 is finished, so no hurry, Harmy! ;-)

Oh, and thank you again.  "REAL" Star Wars is so rad.

Heheh, I always feel a bit like Lucas when doing this, but I've got things that bug me about projects that I just can't let go of.  I've convinced myself to do and do it until I think it's right - but sometimes on a large project I will feel certain elements are the best I can do.  Then, when they continue to bug me, I will find a way to fix them - often months or even years later.  I cringe because it's so Lucasy to "fix" something so much later ... but if something continues to bug me, I have to do it.

So bravo, Harmy, congrats on being an artist's artist and fixing something that stood out to you as needing fixing.

And it looks great!

Star Wars 1977 70mm sound mix recreation [stereo and 5.1 versions now available] (Released)
Time

Just wanted to chime in with a hearty thank you, h_h.  I know from experience this is tedious (but often enjoyable) work, and that - unless you're getting paid for it - you must attend to it when life allows.

I've only recently been made aware of your project, when a friend ran a marathon of harmy's despecialized OT films - and I remarked afterwards how going back to 1977 sound was such a thrill for me.  And I was pointed in the direction of this thread.

I'm very excited about your upcoming version 2, whenever you find the time and inspiration to complete it.

I saw Star Wars many times in '77 - but probably only 3 or 4 times in 70mm. Most of my 30 or so first-run viewings were 35mm mono, so I'm used to that more - and I confess to really enjoying the joke made by including "close the blast doors" that, as someone pointed out earlier, got a laugh every time.

But if you do an "alternate" mix, it's your baby completely.  My hat's off to you, Sir, for the fantastic and frankly important work you are doing.

Hey Harmy, I just registered (or rather re-registered, since I apparently had an old account long fogotten) to give a heartfelt thank you.  A friend screened your despecialized versions of the OT for a group of pals on Easter Sunday, and they blew us all away.  Thank you thank you and, ok one more time with feeling, THANK YOU!!

It's been the proverbial long, long time since I first saw Star Wars about two weeks into its theatrical release in the Spring of '77.  With each passing and largely infuriating change, I've been longing to get back to that beloved version.

I've reviewed most of this thread, though hardly not all of it.  But I'm all asquee you're working on a version 2.0.  Heheh, no worries from this quarter that you're going to take your time with it and do it right when you can manage to devote the time and effort.  For me, this has been over 30 years in coming - so more waiting is insignificant at this point.

Just wanted to give you some added encouragement and some well-earned kudos.  Your efforts are sincerely appreciated by many.
