I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but in order to obtain the preservation effort ‘Despecialized’ versions, you have to own the official releases. Otherwise the entire project could be jeopardized. Grab the official Blu rays and then I am sure an invite will not be a problem. Cheers.

While I agree, as doing this is kind of a win-win for everybody, I’d like to play devil’s advocate for a moment. If people continue to buy the official blu-ray, wouldn’t that essentially tell Disney “this version is fine, no need to release the unaltered trilogy because we will just continue to buy anything you release, regardless”? While making sure to own the official releases before downloading the fan edits is the morally correct thing to do, the whole “vote with your wallet” concept kind of goes out the window by doing that. Just a thought…

fine for a thought experiment, but it goes against the rules and principles of this site, and its members.

I understand that, and like I said, I agree with the rule. It just sucks there isn’t another way to show Disney what we really want. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

I know you can’t post links, but can anyone point me in the direction of SW & ESB GRINDHOUSE Editions? I’m assuming RotJ is pending…?

Yes, it’s pending.

The other two are on myspleen and probably tehparadox. I’m pretty sure SW was on public trackers, too. If ESB was at one point, I would be surprised if the public has kept it seeded this long. Both are on usenet.

OK. Thanks. I’ll check Paradox. What are they exactly? Are they like the Tarantino film with missing frames and scratches etc?

Frames are missing at the ends/starts of reels, but it’s not too noticeable (they are at scene changes of course). Yes. ESB especially looks like an old, worn film (because it is). SW had a lot of cleanup, but there are lots of small scratches and dirt if you look closely. There’s plenty more info in Team Negative’s threads.

Ah. It’s TN-1’s? Already downloaded SW, saw the huge scratch at the start over R2 and deleted it. I’ll stick with Harmy’s.

The RoTJ isn’t their’s, but yeah, sounds like 35mm prints are not for you.

I don’t mind them…if it’s the cinema or it’s the only version available, in in a High-Def, Clear quality age I’d want to see the best available. I’m not a purist.

I can agree with this. One day I’d like to get myself a projector and check out the film print versions, that might be cool. But for normal viewing, Despecialized all the way.

Is is better to buy a blu-ray burner and convert the huge MKV files, or is the picture quality comparable to AVCHD files? I’ve downloaded the AVCHF ISO files and burned to a Dual Layer DVD, but wondering if I’m missing anything in the picture quality?

My understanding is the MKV will be higher quality than the AVCHD, even when burned to a disc. I actually bought a bd burner specifically for Despecialized. Worth it.

You mean like a youtube? Or a doc? Believe me there were a few “beta” tests.

I forgot to add how the DVD’s fit…pretty obvious though.

Just added it to previous post

Like did you have to go somewhere to print it out? What kind of paper did you use? Did you need to back it with cardboard or anything? Things like that. I really want to put one together but I have no idea how. I was thinking about going to Staples or somewhere and giving them the pdf and asking them to print it on heavy cardstock, does that sound right?

Cannot thank you enough these by far look the best I have made all the other Blu ray covers covers that other people have made for the despecialized versions but this one has the looks and the information that I was looking for after a couple trips to the printing store countless hours at the craft table cutting and gluing I now have the perfect original trilogy set. giving this set as a gift to a couple who’s first date was the original star Wars premier they can now own the movie that they held hands during for the first time thanks to Harmy for making it and you for this fantastic blu-ray cases. And iso’s. Still downloading the ISO’s stuck at 94% but hopefully someone will seed

How did you go about printing that big box set to house Ron’s set?
