Jabba's dancer...
Time

So had Jabba apparently done something atrocious or sexual to that dancer he kills?  Is that why she freaks out, because she knows she's about to be...used in a way she hadn't anticipated?  Or did she annoy Jabba somehow and that's why he dispense of her?  There's never a translation to the scene, just her attempting to escape and ineffectively trying to persuade Jabba of something.

Jabba vs. Dancer...
Time

Right.  And in the first she was screaming for help as SOON as she got down there, like she knew what punishment was coming...While in the re-edit it's like she kind of ignorantly thinks everything is fine (she was quite composed for just being dumped into a pit filled with bones) when she's in the pit, up until the gate rises up and she sees she didn't win a new car or something.

Jabba's Fat Dancer...
Time

I feel like a lot of things that I've read make that fat dancer Jabba had seem like she was a victim of circumstance, and really quite a "good" person.  However, in the films she is portrayed as anything BUT a victim.  She's shown flirting with various members of the court, and she smiles and points while that green dancer begs for her life...Then she is the first one mocking and laughing from above when that slave finally gets dumped for trying to get away.  Seems like she was quite the opposite of a victim.  Seemed like she fit right in with Jabba's lot.

Jabba vs. Dancer...
Time

Maybe I'm off base here, but I feel like Lucas changed the whole Jabba vs. his Dancer fight to make it less controversial or disturbing.  I watched the two scenes side by side recently...

In the old one, Jabba is clearly trying to do something nasty with her...and she knows it, as it must have happened before, and she freaks out.  Jabba, not handling rejection from a slave well (and understandably so...what was she thinking?), kills her.  Disturbing, to say the least.

In the NEW one...It really seems like the hapless girl hits Jabba accidentally with her chain, and then he gets mad at her.  She begs for mercy, and then he kills her.  Almost all of the leering is taken away, and Jabba never points to himself as though demanding something "more", and he announces her fate "boscka" quite a bit before he drops her in.  Her lines proclaiming her disobedience (foolishly as it were) are more limited too.

Is this another example of Lucas "kidifying" Star Wars so that it's less adult?  Seems like the whole change makes it less that the dancer was freaking out about Jabba's depraved demands, and more that she screwed up somehow and paid for it.  I don't know.  I could be just imagining it.
