This looks fantastic! Excellent work!
This looks fantastic! Excellent work!
I’m with you on that one. This place is pretty depressing sometimes. It’s not nearly as fun as it used to be, and now that my love for Star Wars has waned a bit, I imagine it’s only a matter of time before I take off.
Damn dude
It’s been a rough year around here.
😦
For years now, I’ve been losing interest in all things Star Wars, and this year was the year I officially became an ex-Star Wars fan. The only reason I stick around’s because of the community, but ever since darth_ender jumped ship, more-and-more of the most interesting posters have disappeared, so the community’s barely a factor anymore.
General Star Wars Discussion is a borefest, Off-Topic (and the Sub-Forums Formerly Known as Off-Topic) are graveyards, and Script Writing/Rewriting’s a ghost town; with no large gravitational bodies to keep me in place, it’s only a matter of time before I leave orbit.
Fuck man, that’s rough, I miss the interesting discussions and creative ideas that circulated the fan-edit and script writing pages too. I only joined in 2014 but man it feels like so long ago when this place was pretty damn fun, I didn’t mind the force awakens take over, but once rogue one rolled around, we had the sock epidemic where trolls joined and proceeded to make dozens of accounts, then TLJ came out and many members became completely hostile, this started a wave of a bunch of members leaving, and that did a number on some of the greatest threads on here man, it kills me. Anyway I think I’m gonna stick around as long as I have people to bounce creative ideas off of but yeah, it’s been rough.
Yeesh, I come back and apparently things have taken a real downturn. It’s sad that this place has become so toxic. Last time I left was more to do with life getting in the way (not in a bad way, just things like work, relationships and some political activism got in the way of posting on a Star Wars Forum) but the fact that it’s gotten so bad that people are thinking of bailing and are growing to hate something they previously loved is depressing. I wouldn’t consider myself an ex-star wars fan just yet, but the fact that there’s so much vitriol coming from fans (often a particular type of white dudes) is pushing me away pretty damn fast. I wonder sometimes if Redlettermedia had anything to do with some of this vitriol, but it’s probably broader than just one youtube channel and maybe far more of a systemic thing. Also, what the hell happened to TV’s Frink? He got banned?! Why?
Currently have got into a flight sim mood, so have been replaying X-Wing Alliance and am playing Crimson Skies for the first time. Sooo good! Crimson Skies reminds me a lot of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (which is fine with me, 'cos Sky Captain rocks. Giant Robots? Gadget planes?? Pulpy goodness??? HELL YES.)
What joystick do you use? I learned rather quickly that using a gamepad for PC flight games just doesn’t work.
I’ve never played X-Wing Alliance, although back in the day I did love TIE Fighter quite a lot.
I’m actually using an Xbox 360 controller. I used to use a joystick years ago but I ended up selling it off due to the fact that I was hardly using it and it was just taking up space. 😕 Crimson Skies is actually rather well calibrated for the 360 controller, I didn’t have to do any changing around with the control scheme.
X-Wing Alliance, on the other hand, did have to have some adjusting (as well as quite a lot of fiddling around to get the game to work on a modern system.) Ideally I would use a joystick, but at the mo I’m just working with what I’ve got to hand.
Haven’t played Tie Fighter yet, but I have played a lot of other DOS games. Recently completed the original Dark Forces (with some graphical enhances) and that was a ton of fun. Some of those 90s Sierra and Lucasarts games are really terrific. 😃

I really like the French Horn. One of the things I liked the most of the '09 Star Trek was the part right as the logos come up where there’s the French Horn solo. Myself though, I play the trumpet.
Currently reading Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House
The book was high Bannon-centric. Many events that happened in the book were told in a manner from Bannon’s perspective. Also, the book seems to say that Trump fired Comey in part because Kushner and Ivanka were continually pressing him to do so.
I then switched to
It’s interesting so far. The novel is broken up into 15 “books”, so I might consider taking the whole thing in small chunks.
I’ve tried reading War and Peace numerous times and would really like to finish it, but keep tailing off. I’ve read pretty hefty books before, such as Dune and The bible (don’t bother with that last one. It’s long, boring and not worth the effort 😛)
Currently reading Catch-22. It’s very good.
I predict that Frink is over 20,000
You guys can’t even read how am I supposed to fight? It’s the green robot madness all over again.
poor radioactive comicbook character 😉
Could you please show more respect to Hulk?
😃
I thought it was the Green Lama? 😉
HOLY MOLY! Someone else knows about the Green Lama!?!?
I don’t know if anything similar has been suggested, yet.
LUKE
But you’ll die.VADER
Nothing can stop that now. Just for once… let me look on you with my
own eyes.…
LEO’s voice
Haven’t I always been a good uncle?LUKE
No. You’re coming with me. I can’t leave you here. I’ve got to save
you.LEO’s Voice
Come on! I’m an old man. I’m confused! What’s my name? Will you take me home?
(the joke)
That image is giving me Divine vibes…
DJ pops up as the boy stares at the stars while the Force theme swells, to close out the film with a, “Th-th-th-that’s all, folks!”
LOL! I like this idea! : )
Maybe he pops out of the kid’s ring? Complete with looney toons music
Probably not silly enough for you, but in 80 years time when/if you get round to making this you could use this in the opening crawl instead of Bill Murray…
Thank you for de-Blade-Runnering this thread.
DID SOMEONE SAY BLADE RUNNER!??!?
Blade Runner 2049
Holy moly! This was a great film. I had severe reservations about this film, having been disappointed by so many sequels/remakes/re-se-pre-whatever to beloved properties before, but my reservations were unfounded. Even if you don’t like the original Blade Runner, you may like this one.
10 out of 10 amazings
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World
Watched this for the umpteenth time. Still love it. Would make a great Star Trek film
9 out of 10 amazings
The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974)
Had never seen this before and was thoroughly impressed. For some reason I expected something trashy but what I got instead was tense and gritty.

Thank you for re-Blade-Runnering this thread.
Fixed!
“A question for Rian Johnson. In Episode 8 The Last Jedi, Yoda’s force ghost makes lightning strike from a storm cloud. I mean, what are we to believe, that this is some sort of MAGIC force ghost? Boy, I really hope someone got fired for that…”
ALLOL
When Obi-Wan says he doesn’t remember owning a droid the ghost of R20000 could angrily appear behind some cgi rocks
When the porgs start ripping up the falcon we could see the shadow of one cross the screen (a la gremlins 2). Hulk Hogan then tells the Porgs in the projection booth to knock it off a play the rest of the film.
Kylo Ren has tons of darth vader merch in his quarters. Darth Vader duvet, embire strikes back poster.etc
Poe Dameron has a pair of fuzzy dice/bobbly hula girl in his x-wing. Poe is also Ric Olie’s (secret!) son. Also when he flies he flies into the starkiller generator thingy he winds up in the 2001 beyond the infinite sequence.
Finn is called Stu Stormtrooper.
Babel
What a sad film. The Japanese storyline was the most interesting, the most powerful, and the most heartbreaking. I almost wish that’s all the film focused on.Hahahaha, my kids just saw Babe recently, and so I somehow saw the “l” as an exclamation mark, and I thought you were just excited about it for some reason. And then you described a version of Babe I’m completely unfamiliar with.
Ooo Oo!! Fan edit/mashup idea! Recut Babe (and a bunch of other animal movies) to the audio from Babel. Call it “Babe…l”
In ROTJ, I liked the Ewoks. Even remember playing with that Ewok village toy. But after the prequels came out, I learned that there were a sizable group of OT fans who hated the Ewoks. i.e. just there to sell toys, or were too cuddly or something. I can understand people not liking the Ewoks. I do hate the CGI with blinking eyes in the Blu-Rays though. Also wish the Ewoks battle scenes didn’t have that green screen look to them.
But at least the Ewoks weren’t nothing near like Jar Jar.
But I was wondering. Are there any here who hated the Ewoks, but love the Porgs?
I’m indifferent to Ewoks, neither love or hate them. They’re just there.
Well, except for Wicket. Wicket’s great.I love the Porgs. (Up until recently I didn’t know what to call them. When I left the cinema I just called them those penguin/guinea-pig thingys). I thought they were cute and charming. That part where they’re burrowing inside the falcon’s wiring made me laugh a lot. I had a big smile whenever they were on screen.
On a different note, did that big Death Star battering ram thingy remind anybody about The Doomsday Machine from Star Trek??? Cos I got big Doomsday Machine vibes off of that thing.
In Frink’s version Commodore Decker tries to ram a shuttle craft right down that thing’s throat, only to be foiled by Rose. 😛
Well, at least we know how Spock will fit into his ridiculous edit… in 50 years time 😛

A Grand Day Out (1989) – 4/4
The Wrong Trousers (1993) – 4/4
A Close Shave (1995) – 3.5/4
All still great, though I wish they’d handle that copyright issue and bring back the original music in The Wrong Trousers.
Yeeeeaaaaaah!
fingergunsShowed them to my girlfriend recently (as where she’s from she had never seen them before) and she loved 'em. What’s up with copyright issues? Is it to do with the music the penguin plays on the radio?
Several track have been replaced, included some of those mentioned, as well as gromit’s birthday card (originally the actual happy birthday song). I don’t think anyone around here has captured the LD track yet, so we’re stuck with the copyright free replacements for now.
Oh yeah! TBH when it played ‘For he’s a jolly good fellow’ I assumed I had just remembered it wrong. I think I’ve got the videos for them tucked away somewhere, so it might be good to go all ‘Harmy’ on them. Laserdisc would probably be the better way to go with it though.
ANTI-Cheese!?
slams fist on table
Damn you sir! Damn you! For too long I have sat silent whilst this Anti-Cheese brigade has run roughshod all over this beloved forum! Well, no longer! I demand that there be a PRO-Cheese edit! I will not take any of these slanderous attacks on the dairy industry!!

caught a matinee showing on my day off today. 2D Imax. 4th time. Excellent movie.
I really can’t understand 90% of the criticisms in this thread. there are like 10% of them that i can understand, but the rest?
- I can understand not liking parts of the Canto Bight sequence
- I can understand wanting to know a bit more about snoke (curiosity and all that)
- I can understand being annoyed by Phasma, and bits of Finn as well
not much else though.
I actively avoided advertisements, fan speculation, marketing and the internet overall in relation to The Last Jedi, and just generally kept any hype for it on the down low, which may be why I had such a strong positive reaction to it. I think the last two points, to do with Snoke and Phasma, may partly be to do with hype and fan speculation. When you are convinced that Snoke is Darth whogivesaratsarse mentioned in a single line of dialogue from one of the prequels/comics/video games based on one thing from his physical appearance or that he is totally going to be the big ultimate bad guy, and he ends up a red herring you’re liable to be disappointed.
If there was one thing I WAS disappointed with it’s that Snoke wasn’t tiny, (you know, because Ren uses the mask as intimidation so Snoke could’ve used the big hologram as intimidation) but whatever. It’s not something I’ll lose sleep over. There are more important things in the world than a space movie.
When Hux does his speech when it cuts to a big long shot of the back of crowd his voice is muffled a quiet. His voice doesn’t carry that far. Maybe a stormtrooper could say, “what!?” Could include audio from Life of Brian.
Also, Kylo Ren’s voice in the helmet is high and squeaky.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi
I liked it a lot 😛
I always thought you were smart, glad to see I was right.

Yes. Yes to you liking it and yes to you returning to the forum.
Thanks guys!! Glad to be back!
