Are you planning to send a complementary copy to George Lucas ;-) ?

Hey there MeBeJedi,

I read the exploits of you *morally* justified bootleggers with interest, and just want to assure you that you are not alone. I haven't bought Lucas's half assed/half completed DVD releases either! Keep up the good work!

First..

THANKS so much for your support of the fan community.....

Second... These are not "bootlegs".... These are what I like call "Archive Discs" and "Fan Edits" not bootlegs. When the term bootleg is used it is cheaping the works that have been done and impling that these are street "bootlegs" when most people hear that term they hear what roughly translates to [a knock-off or a cheap reproduction]. SO much work has gone into all these DVD's that the fans including myself have created and I think that they should be treated better then "bootlegs" -

I would like to thank Zion, MeBeJedi and everyone else who has contributed to the creation of these "Archive Sets" and all those who support this site and others like it.

Thanks for the terminology clarification Rikter!
I have been surfing ebay looking at the wide variety of SW laser disks that are available. I think we should all buy LD players!
Also just dug up some old SW 'audiobook' tape cassettes from my tape collection. You know the ones, with a narrator talking over the soundtack? Great fun!
I will have to preserve those onto my HD.

You guys are an inspiration. George Lucas must love us all ;-

It really takes a hard-core OT fan (like myself) to not buy the official DVDs for their overall vastly improved visual and audio <cough>.

Did George Lucas take too much credit?

On further thought, I now remember that it was on IGN.com. Also, it was with Gary Kurtz, not Kershner. Kurtz was the producer on the first 2 films, but left because he wasn't happy with what Lucas wanted to do with Jedi.

You have to pick through it (because Kurtz is talking about his personal career independant of SW as well), but there are some really juicy bits in there.

Heres the link, and I think it points out how *lucky* Lucas was to have talent around him for the first 2 films, and explains in part what happened to his creation when the talent started leaving or getting dropped from the production, and Lucas started totally controlling things:

I think this article clearly shows that the success of the original Star Wars went so much above and beyond Lucas's involvement.

There was an excellent article online a while ago where they interviewed (i think it was) Irvin Kershner.
He basically explained how the beginning of the end came with Return of the Jedi, because that's when Lucas started getting too much control.

Does anybody know the article I mean, or have a link to it? It was extremely enlightening, and explained so much for those of us who wondered 'what went wrong with Star Wars'.

final cut?
Time
Hi, I've been reading the forums here for a little while, and want to say this is a fun environment and am glad to join.

My question: Is the newly released OT DVD set the final Lucas edit/meddle or will there be yet another modified OT version to come out after ep 3? Also, will he be re-releasing 4,5 and 6 cinematically again after ep3?

Thanks.
