Alternate names for Star Wars characters?
Time

My four year old daughter calls C3PO "The Golden Man", and Vader is called "The Big Meanie" (quite accurate really). Chewbacca is Chewmacca.

All the other characters she ignores except Yoda (she has a cuddly toy version of him). Mind you she has only ever managed to watch a few snippets of the OT.

I know there is footage of a young girl describing C3PO as "The Shiny guy" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBM854BTGL0

Any other examples of alternate names for the characters?

"I am wondering.....why are you here?"
Time

I'm here because its great to be with other people who feel as betrayed as I do by Lucas (I wonder if Luke felt the say way about Ben after what he was told?)

I never knew this site existed until someone mentioned it to me on Twitter after I was ranting about the Prequels. I remember dipping into TFN a few times but being dismayed about how fanatical people were about the prequels (did we watch the same movies?!)

Watching an episode of Spaced a few years back and seeing Simon Pegg's character burn his Star Wars collection as he was so disgusted with the prequel movies  I knew that at least it wasn't just me who though the new movies were a big pile of pants. (Would never dream of burning my toy collection though!)

I think the difference on here to other SW fan websites is that on here are Star Wars fans on other sites there are Star Wars fanatics (blindly and un-critically gobbling up any lucasfilm shite with a spoon) This website is absolutely fascinating, I love that people have put vast amounts of effort in to tracking all the changes to the OT edits and spend ages discussing various minutiae. The fan edits are great fun to watch too.

I'll quite happily share  a few drinks with all of you at nearest cantina (I won't shoot you from under the table).

(The only thing I do struggle with a bit are the various abbreviations that people use to described the edits etc...)

Info Wanted: Trilogy Videos picked up at a car boot sale
Time

I picked up 6 videos recently at a carboot sale. Some of videos are unopened and still wrapped in cellophane. Some of them appear to have a bit of mould on the actual video tape inside the casette.

I don’t have a video player to check the quality or such like but wondered if anyone know if its worth bothering to convert them to film or not.

Of course it won’t be DVD quality but they are pre-DVD special edition so I’m not sure what changes (if any) they have

They are

Star Wars (Digitially remastered, closed captioned (subtitles?!) HiFi Stereo (bleugh) 1995

ROTJ (Digitally remastered, special widescreen edition, letterbox version (2.35:1), closed captioned HiFi Stereo) 1995 - mould on tape edge so might be buggered)

ROTJ (Digitally remastered, HiFI Stereo, closed captioned 1995)

ESB (Special Widescreen edition, letterbox version - unopened 1994)

Star Wars (Special Widescreen edition, letterbox version 1994)

ROTJ (Special Widescreen edition, letterbox version - unopened 1994)

Just realised that my descriptions might be useless so I can post pics if anyone wants to take a look. Should I keep them protected or plonk with the rest of my collection as something to look at but not really worth anything.

Any advice welcome.

p.s. Not sure if this counts as memorabilia discussion or not so could a mod move it if I’ve got it wrong

What age should my kids watch Star Wars?
Time

I can't tell you how excited I was to find this website! Other fans who hate the prequels and love the originals!!! I no longer feel alone! Anyway I am getting off the point.

My kids are 1.5 and 3.5yrs old (boy and girl). At what age should I introduce them to the Trilogy? I've seen a cute video of a 3yr old girl on YouTube describing Star Wars but I do wonder if this is too young to really enjoy it? Is 5 more appropriate?

I can't remember how old I was when I saw it as I was born in 1976. How old were you when you first saw it and what age do think is a good starting point?

I'm not getting into all that nonsense about what order to watch them in, its quite simple IV, V and VI. There are no prequels (nuff said). If they choose to watch the prequels when they are older and have their childhood memories crapped on then thats for them to decide.
