Howard The Duck - special edition (Released)
Time
Is there any update on this project?

The film has been showing on satellite TV over here in the UK, I recorded a copy to my set-top DVD recorder which will tide me over for now, sadly it's 4:3 and also the cut UK version of the film.

Judging by the framing, though, it appears to be 1.85:1 cropped down to 4:3, which means I'm waiting along with the rest of you for a nice OAR version

Aha! So your transfer is FAR better, heh.
Did you make menus and such for the DVD? If not, is there any way you could send a copy my way (in whatever format you have that is the highest quality) so I could fancy it up and share it? If so, send me a PM.

Thanks!

PM sent.. wow, comparing the two side by side, my transfer does look pretty damn good, if i do say so myself

dvd-9 is a double layer single sided, dvd-5 is single layer single side and you just double the numbers for the double sided discs.

i stand corrected, said the man in the orthopaedic shoes.

i've edited my post. the same statement still remains though, the only feasible way to get this documentary on would be on a dual layer side of a disc..

Or, unless it's just the Director's Cut, no extras. Seems like a bunch of feature-laden LD's have gotten incomplete or lacking DVD releases, so that would be lame, but not surprising.

well, there's 2 common kinds of 2-sided discs.. DVD-10 and DVD-18.

imagine that a double-sided disc is just two DVDs with the non-readable sides glued together. (that's what they are, pretty much!)

DVD-10 would be two single-layer discs, back to back.

DVD-18 would be two dual-layer discs, back to back.

(there's also DVD-14, which has one single layer side and one dual layer side.)

the only feasible way for the complete frighteners documentary to be on this new release would be to use a DVD-18 type of disc. the movie (and maybe some of the other extras) on side one, and the documentary on side two.

[edited to correct myself on the terminology from the dvd demystified URL]

hey guys.. i've got a fairly decent capture of this that I encoded from digital satellite. it's PAL, though.

my transfer is..

sky+ digital satellite > AV cables > Canopus ADVC-100 > firewire > iMovie (raw DV) > mpeg-2 (dual pass VBR).

it's encoded in anamorphic widescreen.

if that floats anybody's boat, then please let me know and we can get something done with it
