FACE/OFF - complete 35mm scan opportunity (WIP)
Time

Yes, I’m afraid that it’s dead. I heard nothing from the guy and at this point I never will. It’s a crying shame, it looked like a nice print. Whoever donated, can PM me the date of the donation and the email linked to your paypal account so I can identify you and I’ll see that you get refunded, in alternative I can offer a 35mm scan of a different film. I have two in the works that have never been scanned before, the scans have already been delivered to me (no more vanishing scanners), but they are still in a raw format and will need some work.
If I take a while to reply don’t worry, I’m just not very active on OT, trying to keep up with a busy life and for some reason I rarely receive email notifications from OT, but sometimes I remember to log in.

I’m sorry to hear that the project was unable to be finished due to circumstances beyond your control. I would have enjoyed seeing the differences between the 35mm and the home releases, plus I always love an excuse to watch Face/Off!

Just curious, but in these situations, do scanners at least return your film? I’m worried the answer is no, which is awful.

True Lies 35mm (Released)

Guys please stop sending me PMs about this. I don’t have a link any more and it’s not my scan. Also it’s 2022 not 2018 times have moved on. In 2018 the scan quality on this project was good. Note: good, not great. If True Lies is important to people you should look for a new print and get it scanned professionally. It can be done affordably at quality that will wipe the floor with the old scan.

I’m new to the fan-edit, 35mm preservation game, so I never really knew these types of scans existed until a couple months ago. I couldn’t believe this movie isn’t more readily available in HD, whether that be Blu-ray or even digital purchase.

Maybe this print will start circulating around again before the TV show based on the movie comes out. I won’t hold my breath, but a guy can dream! LOL

Not that I have the money, but where do people source prints of films? I tried looking on ebay, but it seems like most of the stuff on there is trailers.

Definitely excited to keep track of this project. Saw a 35mm scan of the original JP the other day and I can’t wait to try and watch it on a projector. I may be in the minority, but I also really love JP3, so knowing that someone is going to show it some love by preserving it warms my heart!

There will be a massive improvement over the old scan for JP1.

Now I’m even more excited! LOL.

The Phantom Menace - Theatrical version scanned in 4K (a WIP)

They did the whole movie as well.

I’d love to see this. Did they do any of the other prequels too? I saw their scans of the trailers on YouTube and couldn’t believe how much “smoother” the CGI looked than the digital release of Phantom Menace I started looking at the other day. Their scans of trailers for the other prequels looked good too. The darkness of a film print really seems to cut down on the distraction that can be seen on a digital version. Maybe darkness isn’t the right word, but it doesn’t feel as “bright” and cheery when you see the 35mm trailers for the prequels.

After only being able to catch Rogue One on Star Wars Day this year, I’m itching for a rewatch of them all, but part of me wants to hold off to see if I can’t find 35mm scans of the prequels to match up with 35mm scans of the OG trilogy.

Hi! New guy in town! I just discovered these forums as part of the rabbit hole Project 4K77 has led me down and wanted to join because I saw that these forums are active with folks who not only want to preserve Star Wars, but other properties. Looking forward to being a member of the community and learning a lot more about preservation!
