Any chance of a DVD torrent? I like XVID for some things but I much prefer my growing DVD disc collection of fan edits.

I've been following this thread with great interest and am really looking forward to comparing it with CBB's excellent Dezionized edit. If you do need someone to start a PIF, let me know. I'll gladly get a chain going. You may find there'll be more interest in it than you think once the completed project is available.

I can see our cities' Cheesecake factory from my patio. It takes me about 4 minutes to walk to And my work is about 20 seconds around the corner from it. I love Cheescake factory. Their non-cheesecake stuff is really nice too. Although it can get MIGHTY busy in there.

Well, a while back I posted a sort of tutorial with pictures of the results of spraying discs. I can't seem to find it anymore. Anyway, it is possible to get the spray on the data side if you use too much spray. However, I think common sense would kick in with most people before it reached that point. You're not looking to pool the spray on the disc, just several light passes to give thin, light, and even coverage. I always spray my discs on top of non-glossy newspaper (outside for ventilation, too). It absorbs some of the overspray. I've probably sprayed 500 discs and never had a problem. They look SO much better.

Here is the thread for that excellent tutorial.

The Thief and the Cobbler: Recobbled Director's Cut (Released)
Time
Wow ocpmovie. I am so looking forward to this collection. I have just viewed the trailer and it looks fantastic. Admittedly, my knowledge of Richard Williams was a big fat zero before you outlined this project. But now, after all your amazing info and work, I am really looking forward to discovering Richard William's work.

What's even better is your involvement with Williams, albeit not on Thief itself, but in his studio. That is a great personal touch on the project.

I don't know how you find time to keep us updated and informed on everything you're doing and the details of everything. Just what you have written here is a fantastic resource in itself.

Once released, this collection will sit with pride next to good old Roger Rabbit. I best find myself a week off work to indulge myself in it all.

Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see it.

I like that Ell. A very appropriate slogan, certainly befitting of ADM's excellent edits.

Oh, and the covers are excellent. I too would like to put those edits on some shiny discs...

Jambe, Congrats on getting this finished. I'm really looking forward to seeing this as a succession to ocpmovie's great Deleted Magic. That was absolutely fascinating in itself to see, and by all accounts, your look at ESB is just as, or even more interesting. If anyone would like to PIF this to me once they receive it, please PM me. Thanks.

You would be surprised at how many people still go into consumer electronics stores and ask for an AOL disc (I mean - it is not as if they have received thousands of those shiny discs in the mail already !!!!)

As maddog00 gave an example of his parents and their reasons for sticking with AOL, there are unfortunately plenty of people out there who do not know any better. For them, AOL IS THE INTERNET.

There is a very large Joe Public out there that does not have a clue about a lot of things techy or entertainment-wise. Those of us who do are actually the minority, not the other way round. It is very easy to assume everyone else knows or understands the things we talk about with friends or in forums etc, but the opposite is the case.

Errr.... sorry, got a little sidetracked there.

As for that tax thing. Um, AOL has been lauding up its Security Center thingy on its adverts recently - Spamware - blocked. Viruses - Whacked. Etc. And now they're saying. Spam mail - blocked if the sender hasn't paid us a fee ????? Um, WTF !!

I really wish AOL would just go away and leave everyone alone.

Scientific Innacuracies in Sci-Fi
Time
From this months SFX magazine - someone asked : It's a sci-fi cliché, but how feasible are laser guns that can be set to stun rather than kill?

This was the answer:

Good question! We consulted Neil Davison, Project Coordinator of the Non-Lethal Weapons Research Project, at the Centre for Conflict Resolution (University of Bradford). He tells us: "I think this is a sci-fi cliché that will remain sci-fi. However, weapons that can be set to 'pain' instead of 'kill' are on the way. One US military prototype, the Active Denial System, projects a beam of energy that heats up the skin of the victim, causing a painful burning sensation. Another development project aims to use lasers to stimulate pain receptors in the skin. Either way it would be a far cry from the sort of harmless "stun" seen in Star Trek. Being on the receiving end would be very painful and could leave lasting damage."

How did I not notice those in the torrent? There are just so many to choose from. I like the Japanese wording (I presume that is what Kanji means) with those. Very nice.

VERY nice cover. SO much better than the official one.

Unbelievably, these graphics 'artists' are paid for work as bad as the above cover.

I'm interested to see what you've done with this movie too. It was a fun throwaway movie and <looks around to check wife isn't reading >, certainly can't complain about Jennifer Garner.

Once you've clicked the link to the movie, and the Quicktime is playing on the page:

Right-click on the page (not on the movie clip)
Select : View Page Source (Firefox) or View Source (IE)
The window shows you the source code for the page
Use CTRL-F to do a find - look for .mov
You will find a file name: issue1.mov
Copy the whole link from the http://
Use your downloading client to grab the file (I use Net Transport)

There is also an issue2, issue3, issue4, issue5 and issue6

Hope that's clearer than mud

Scroll to the bottom, and you have the links to Quicktime files. They play in a rather small window in your browser, but if you go into the source code, you can find the direct links to the files and download them. Once downloaded, they appear a little bigger.

Yayyyy Thanks ShiftyEyes. I really appreciate that. I'm grabbing the raw files. Wish they were VOBs

Here are details of the DVDs

Here is a previous thread about the Director's Cut and a thread about a fan edit which contains a list by ShiftyEyes of most of the differences.

If anyone has that fan edit, I'd really like to see it ... hint hint

Personally, I really like the DC. I'd be very interested in seeing what the fan edit did with the movie.

FanFiltration’s/... 'Star Wars: Making Magic Preservation' (Released)
Time
I'm really looking forward to this. Very interested to see how it has been put together.

I have this CD-ROM, along with 'Behind The Magic' and a 'Behind The Magic - The Vehicles' (just an excerpt of the full BTM). Would love to see these get the same treatment - anyone

I have the Star Trek Encylopedia on DVD-ROM - wonder if that would suit this type of treatment - will have to take a look at that sometime.

Great cover Rikter.

Help: looking for... 'R. Tam sessions' preservation (in high quality)

Yeah, that's what I thought.

BTW, I remember reading rumors that a Serenity special edition DVD might include them in the special features. I wish they did this in the first place. The UK and Oz versions already have more stuff than the US version. They should have included the R.Tam sessions. There was also a Sci-Fi channel special called 'Inside Serenity' which would have been a nice addition.

Originally posted by: Max_Rebo
I dont think they have, I looked here and they don't mention it and I think if anyone would know they would. The highest resolution (and only) versions are the 640x480 quicktime files
Hmmm, 640x480. My files are 400x300. I'll have to check the links again. I downloaded the website, which included the original and the new design.

Aaaahhh. SPACED. Simply the funniest show ever. Anyone on this board who has not seen it, should do so. Get the 3 disc boxset and try and spot all the movies and tv references without using the homage-o-meter.

I just love Bisley's reaction to the PT, and especially the kid that wants to buy the J** J** B**** toy

An extended SOTD is a great idea... if I could find the time, I'd try out ADM's method.
