He actually built the protocol droid R2 hangs out with too. But after he turned and his wife, your mom, died. Oh that was in child birth by the way, we gave the droids to Captain Antillies and had C-3PO's memory wiped. that was at the same time we sent you here to live with your uncle, and we sent your twin sister...oh, forgot, yeah, you have a twin sister who we seperated from you at birth and whos identity we kept hidden from you. Shes the one in the message, so get those nasty thoughts out of your head boy. Oh, before i forget, heres your Dad's lightsaber. I took it after i cut him in half and left him for dead on a volcanic planet. he was in pretty bad shape, but the emperor fixed him up with the mechanical body he has now...you know, maybe leaving him there wasnt the best idea in retrospect...oh well. Anyway, go pack your bags, you gotta learn the ways of the force and come with me so you can defeat your father."

If George Lucas had your writing ability we would have been treated to a much more entertaining set of prequels!

There was no narration on this edit, which is why I assume it must have been an early rough edit of either version.
I'm really kicking myself in the ass for not copying these...I would have loved to be able to give these to everyone.
Now they're probably sitting in the corner of some director's office (or his assistant's) collecting dust for the rest of eternity.
Well, there's always hope.......

From what I remember of the Blade Runner rough cut, there was no narration and no unicorn shots yet.
It looked to be one of the first rough edits they had made of the film - wish I could remember more about it, but only saw it the one time. If you have ever seen rolls of film dailies befoe, this is what this version looked like - a bunch of film dailies edited together complete with the dailies audio - no sound effects or soundtrack music had been dubbed into the film yet.
I will NEVER forgive myself for not copying this onto a VHS while my boss wasn't looking.....
The Dune cut might have been the first edit of the Alan Smithee cut which Lynch had been dead set against - because after seeing that version last year on a full-screen DVD-r, I recalled a lot of that footage from the edit we found. So I am led to believe that it was simply an early version of Smithee's project.
Hope this helps...sorry I don't have more info for ya!

I wouldn't be surprised if this has been found...I worked at a well-known production company's Vault in Los Angeles and my boss and I discovered extremely rough edits of Dune (David Lynch) and Blade Runner (Ridley Scott) on 3/4" tapes. These were found in the bottom of a box in a back storage room while we were "tidying up." My boss (ass kisser that he was), confiscated them after we viewed them - but the point is that they accidentally fell into our unsuspecting hands..and they sat in that dusty back storage room for years without anyone knowing of their whereabouts. They could have quite possibly been the only copies of those edits in existence.
SO to hear that this lost edit (the Holy Grail) might have been uncovered is not much of a shock to me - it is not too uncommon of a tale, especially given what happens in both Editing Facilities and Production Comapny Vaults!

The originaltrilogy.com Forum - I love this place
Time

Maybe this topic is in the wrong section, but this needed to be said:

I love this place.
There isn’t another place on the net like this.
There is a wealth of talented and thoughtful individuals here that I can’t imagine being equaled elsewhere.
The discussions here are thought-provoking; no one is afraid to speak their mind, and everyone appears to be open to criticism in one form or another. There isn’t one thread that hasn’t put a smile on my face, or made me look back fondly on a Star Wars moment - or made me feel secure knowing I was not the only one who thought the deep, romantic kiss that Luke and Leia almost shared in TESB (see Marvel adaptation) was on the brink of absolute creepiness.
Seriously, I am truly happy that I stumbled across all of you here, and I honestly feel like a child that has finally found it’s home.
I am at an extremely difficult period in my life right now, and it feels like I found this place in the nick of time.
In so many words, this place somewhat saved my life tonight.

Thanks to all of you for making a place like this possible,
Eric
