Oh man, I just heard about this, and it makes my curious about how the excretable prequels could be recut!

I haven't burned the SW dvd to disc yet, but playing it off of USB on my DVD player, it looks great, though I can't seem to make my DVD player take advantage of the anamorphic aspect ratio (which works just fine if I play in on my PC).
"It's Beautiful!" < head melts >
I'd *love* to help seed the DVD

I already said a few posts back,
"OH, and sorry up front about the color, now I have been fucking around with it."
Well here is the sample, remember it is a big one LOL, I wanted a lot of different scenes to look at, and I will pull back on the noise\grain setting, but like I said, if I go to far back on them it will look like pure crappola, well anyways here is the sample links, and I just want to clarify 1 more time, is this perfect, hell no.

Is there audio with this sample? I downloaded it, it looks great but I can't figure out what audio codec it's supposed to use (gspot was no help).
There's also a subtle halo around the Moon of Tatooine.
Ah! :)

dudefromthenorth, are you using a PS3 or standalone player?
Um, a WinXP machine at work actually.

That's what I tried to do, DJ. It didn't work. The stream appeared as unsupported.
It worked for me, after I installed CCCP.
It looks good, but in the Opening Crawl, letters with holes in them started smearing vertically as the crawl got closer to the top of the screen.
Dang, That could be a reason for me to actually buy a Blue-ray disc player.

How is this, it is an MKV sample of SW V3.

Oh my, that's simply superb! Jaw droppingly fine! I finally remembered how to play .MKV files on my pc ( I also checked and my DVD player can't play .MKV's) .
Well, I hope I'm fortunate to experience DarkJedi's GOUT version someday. Finger crossed.

dark_jedi did you get my pm?
Yes I did, along with several others from other members, I am still undecided, but leaning towards no, I am just about finished now and don't really think I need any more blank DL's.
I also sent a PM. Does this mean that there will be absolutely no way for those without newsgroup access who have not yet donated to get the Japanese Special Collection 2 set? I can understand if you don't need anymore blank DL's, but is there something else we can donate other than blank DVDs in exchange for becoming testers? I only ask because I have no newsgroup access (so I can't even get the GOUT V3 and the 1997 V2 when they hit online), no effective dual layer burner (I'll need to borrow one from a friend), and am willing to donate. Sorry for sounding so inquisitive, but I frankly think these sets are fantastic and curious to see all of them.
Your situation sounds to be just like mine. I'd love to help/assist, but I doubt I can except by donation.
Not sure I have enough time to read the entire thread, but I'm looking forward to this "preservation effort", I miss me some *honest* Star Wars.
Hmm, "motion smearing" may not be so bad, one of the annoying things I've noticed about the Special Edition (beyond terrible CGI acting) is the wonky depth of field, many things seem to have the wrong level of sharpness or focus, too many addons are in sharp focus, and things that were adjusted to get rid of the lovely 1970s in-camera effects now are blurry.
Hmm, I'll try avoid the edits with "crushed blacks".
Thanks, I've subscribed to that thread, and will observe (and wait it seems :) ).
If anything GL's odd mixture of insecurity & arrogance has forced many to *not* take for granted , um, many things about Star Wars ...
Addendum:
Do any of these preservation efforts still have the original 2-channel audio? Or have they all been upgraded to 2.1 and higher surround sound?

Well, it's still a "real" TV (Trinitron). But higher res material (or even "upscaled" and then downscaled) looks fine on it to my eyes.
DVNR - Digital Video Noise Reduction ? How does that manifest?
If "crushed blacks" means lots of darky & murky scenes, I rather not, thank you very much.
Well, I'd prefer the 1977 70mm print, but what the hey.
Okay, DJ's V3 GOUT. I have no idea whatsoever where that resides. But it gives me something to look for. Thanks for the advice.
Heck, I still think it weird that they (gl) changed the name of "Star Wars" to "A New Hope" in 1981. I remember going "Hey! That's different!" back then.
So, a vote for DarkJedi's GOUT...
So, which preservation effort is closest to the 1977 theatrical release?
Okay...
Dr. Gonzo OOT or what? Which one is most original? Which one has best image quality? I can't afford to try them all just yet. I've watched some of Mr. Adywan's ANH revisited, and while the images can be superb, the SE changes still anooy me.
Greetings, total forum Noob here, trying to figure "bestest" OOT version, so please bare with me, I'm still trying to encompass the depth pf the forum here. Long time Star Wars fan, old school even. Saw and enjoyed "The People vs. George Lucas" on the weekend, and now I'm trying to find a good (if not best available) digital version to replace my 1995 VHS box set (the big black one). Anyhow, every Special Edition change come across like a slap in the face to me.
