If I ever make my own edit of the original trilogy (which will use elements from Adywan’s and JSteven’s edits, clean up the audio to make it sound less like a microphone, clean up the grain so it wouldn’t be distracting, and improve the overall look of the film), I will not use the Special Edition version of the windows on Cloud City in The Empire Strikes Back. Why? The fact that they were originally walls informed us that the Empire was closing in onto the Rebels, and now they took that symbolism away.
Thank you for posting this. I’ve never been sure why the Special Edition versions of ESB have never hit me like the theatrical version, but that seem like a very good point.
