Anyway, no, i dont like the 3PO line. The line itself makes sense, but the sound of the line, the delivery of the line, doesnt fit with the scene. My point is that it SOUNDS out of place, not that the line itself is out of place. It just sounds a little off. But like I said before, it really makes no difference whether or not the line is there or not. I say if the line was in the original theatre presentation, by all means use it.
A quick question for an expert: Do all three '89 movies have the infamous shrinking ratio problem or is just ANH? The reason I ask is b/c the Empire LD i got (which i havent watched yet) is the '89, but the LD have what apears to be a 1993 date on them somewhere...thanks.

The '92 ANH played perfectly last night, all the way through. I was actually pretty impressed with the picture quality. Sure there was lots of film noise, but thats the '77 film I guess...once I dialed the brightness WAY down, the picture was very nice.
Here are my complaints with the LD, the stupid tie fighter blocks are still noticable in some of the later space battle scenes. Also, the final scene with the fake people on both sides at the ceremony is so obvious I laughed.
All in all, I got chills when I heard Han say "Yes, I bet you have" with all that sarcasm, rather than "I bet you have." Then, wait Greedo never got a shot off, that's right...
So am I correct in assuming the definitive lds do not have that C3P0 line? I'd leave it out if you can, unless it sounds better than the 92 Fox version...cause that was noticably out of place.

needless to say it was WAY ahead of its time, considering most people now dont have HD compatible tvs even 10 years later...
laserdisc failed for two reasons: the size of the disks were unacceptable, digital compression took over like a wildfire...
besides laserdisc is a 1979 technology anyway, its amazing that people watched LDs through the 1990s.
As someone who OWNS two HD-DVDs and watches HDTV (DTV) everyday... I can say bring it on. What many ppls dont realize is that WMV-HD is already here, and they play in PC DVD drives. go to www.wmvhd.com to learn more. Unfortunately these is no way for the consumer to ENCODE into wmvhd format at this time, b/c that would be the way to transfer the OT!

Well, if you believe this, how do you explain the U.S. getting its ass kicked in Iraq? Hmm....The whole point was that the Empire was spread too thinly, and the rebel fighters prevailed, in that battle. The movie is totally fine with Ewoks. In fact I love the Ewoks, so cute, but smart. But i tell you what, there were boos when the credits rolled after Episode One...I bet nobody booed ROTJ....
I prefer to think of the last three films as an after thought. They are simply a mess for the average movie-goer. Thats probably why the reviews were so bad, b/c as movies they were bad. Episode Two was much better than E1, but IMO, almost every actor feels inappropriately cast. Lucas would have been much better served to use lesser known actors, who could actually act. Sorry guys but Samuel L. Jackson is not a Jedi, he's the angry black guy from Die Hard 4. Using bland name-brand actors was the biggest mistake ever. Natalie Portman has a big ass, and was pretty bad in E1. There i said it.

from what I can gather, MeBeJedi has the chronic buds.
I'm making transfers too, from Definitive collection laserdiscs. I plan on transfering the films only. No extras. I figure its the original fims people want. Keep the c@st down, and the value at its highest. Of course I am not selling these copies, that would be illegal. PM if youd like to offer me your blank DVD-Rs.

This whole thing reminds me how in Orwell's 1984, they keep removing words from the Dictionary, in effect erasing them from history. Words were combined or shortened and slowly the words in the language grew fewer and fewer.
People will not sit idlely by and watch memories, and history fade away at the hands of one small minded man.
If I were able to ask Lucas one question, it would be this: "what harm is done to you by releasing the very movies, in their original theatrical presentation, that made you the wealth you have today?"
Also, can we get a copy without James Earl Jones' vader voice over? I dont know what that actor's name was, but he got screwed big time.

Well, perhaps when I am done with SW we can exchange. I'm more than happy to share as long as no copies are made other than one for you and you alone. I would do the same with your copy. Absolutely no copies for others should be made. I just want to see the difference in our transfers. Since I'm the noob here, I'd be happy to send you my copy first. PM me if your interested.
On a sad note: SW Trilogy DVD Widescreen is currently number one seller on Amazon. Please go there and write an honest review everyone.

I will do both, I have no RBG unfortunately, only composite and s-vid. I think for what I am aiming to do, the transfers will look basically unchanged from the laserdiscs. This may or may not be a good thing, but I have high hopes.
Ive been reading all these post for quite awile now, before jumping in, and I think you are on your way to making a wonderful transfer. My goal is really to make a DVD set for myself, and then a master set stored on hardrive. Whether or not I will get these out in large numbers is not that big of a deal. I'd like to sell 10-20 copies, but I figure half of these will go to people I already know. Whether or not anyone here is interested I dont know.
My biggest compaint it that my sound will go analog-analog-digital, ending up in 16-bit stereo. The stereo format is fine, we will see how much quality is lost. I should be posting screens of Han shooting Greedo by next week. I plan on making a full set by next weekend, as well.
An option is use a Audigy platinum audio card, which allows for sony/philips digital in. However at this point the project become too expensive for me. My personal opinion is that 5-10 years after Lucas croaks. the OT will be released, or by that time OT transfers onto DVD will be fairly common.
MeBeJedi: I would love to compare early transfers with you somehow. I should have SW transfered by Saturday 10/2/04 for sure onto DVD-R.
