Boba Feta, those are absolutely beautiful. Perfect for the SE versions. I really like the use of the SE Medallion (I've got that full size movie poster at home).
The transfer you did looks really good. Of course, the video quality isn't as good as the 2004 DVDs, but you work with what you got, right? (Maybe we should petition Lucas to give us access to the original or SE prints...)
I do have a couple complaints though. 1. The "Letter to Mr. Lucas" and the "Ralph McQuarrie Gallery" are videos. Well, them being videos is fine, but at least, please put in chapter points for each page of the letter and each picture in the gallery. That way, if we can read faster than the video, we won't have to wait. 2. There is no menu button functionality programmed into any of the videos, including the movie. Hitting the "Top Menu" button works, but that's hard coded into the DVD player. Say, in Adobe Encore, you can specify which menu you want to send the user once they hit the Menu button. You can customize this based on which video the user is currently viewing.
So, my final verdict is: Transfer is great, the way the disc is set up (menus & chapter points in the videos other than the movie) could use a little work.
I've done pretty much the same thing, except it only contains the lightsaber duels, not every shot of a turned-on saber. Also, mine don't have any of the inter-cutting during the scenes, so when it's time to watch the "Duel of the Fates", you don't have to watch stuff like Anakin saying "We have to help them Artoo." I also haven't made a DVD out of it, but it may be a fun project. I think I'll wait until the official EP3 DVD is out.
By the way, what program are you using to capture the video? I've been using DVDx, but I'm finding it not so easy to capture video in the anamorphic aspect ratio.
Also, would I be correct in assuming you're using Adobe Premeire to splice the video together?
@Papa Vader: Yes, the blue blade would make it more ESB like, but if you look closely, the lightsaber HILT is also from ROTJ, not ESB. And, yes, I know that would probably be the biggest pain in the butt to change (and probably not worth it). I just thought it was interesting. However, Lucas has made this mistake before (or again, depending on when that pic was released). If you look at the ROTJ Special Edition poster, you'll notice that the lightsaber duel depicted is actually from ESB. You can tell by the stance of the combatants, the slight blue tinge to Luke's saber, and (most obviously) the blaster on Luke's hip.
I ordered it from Amazon, andit just shipped today, so I won't get it for a few days.
I hope Post-NJO focuses more on Jacen and Jaina (Jacen's character got more developed than Jaina's in NJO). I hope Luke turns into more of a Ben Kenobi character, a mentor role. Ben Skywalker could be very interesting. But as far as story arc goes, I don't have a clue. Maybe that's why I'm not a writer.
By the way, if you're having trouble burning the VIDEO_TS folder, I suggest using DVD Shrink (dvdshrink.org). Just use it to open up the files and then you can either burn it straight to disc if you have Nero or you can write it to an iso image. It's worked great for me.
Hello all. I found this site a couple days ago and have been lurking since then. I've read the entire thread, so, yes, I know the answer to the DVD5 question.
Well, I've got a somewhat newbie question, so please don't shoot me if it's a stupid question. First though, here's some background info: A couple years ago, my brother went to the Cambodia and bought bootleg copies of ANH SE and the original ROTJ for me. After looking at Rikter's site, it appears that the ANH SE version I have is from the 5 Star Collection. I don't know what collection the ROTJ disc is from, but it's got a Dennis Muren bonus feature video on it. The image on the disc is the SE poster, which I think is kinda funny.
So, on to my question. I take it that this new Cowclops version (thank you by the way) will be of a higher video quality (in terms of sharpness and smoothness) that the discs that I have. I was wondering how the video on the new Cowclops version compares to the new DVDs that Lucas released last September (disregarding the content changes of course)?
