Interstellar - Theatrical Letterbox Reconstruction (in HD) (Released)
Time

Hi.

I worked for a lot of time to reconstruct the Letterbox version of Interstellar.

Starting from the blu-ray material, cropping all the IMAX scenes to what they looked like in the letterbox theatrical version, using as reference a camrip of that. I carefully copied all the crops and camera movement (like in the scene when the crew starts to rotate the Endurance, the crop slides from above to below, or when Case rescue Amelia etc…)…

But then, at work done (thank you PDB…), i discovered that the DVD version IS the letterbox theatrical version.

I’m asking you, my friends: is there a way to add value to my reconstruction, which is only an HD-version of a version that already exists?

Something like color-correcting any scenes or… have no idea… i’m open to any suggestions!

Many thanks in advance!

I already own the Redux version and an old Laserdisc rip... Metropolis Redux is an awsome project and i really love it, but the idea of owning a version that is closer to the original is very tempting.

Thanks again! I will definitely buy it...

Just a warning, the Blu-Ray by Kino may not meet all your expectations. It's culled from an original 1980s 35mm print with little to no clean-up. The elements Moroder was working from were far inferior to those used in the modern day restorations.

Because Redux uses the 21st century restored video, it actually looks much higher quality than the Blu-Ray. I'd only get the Blu-Ray if I was interested in how people saw the Moroder cut in the 1980s, warts and all.

However better than laserdisc rip, i think...

@SilverWook, Asaki: can you imagine a new version of Metropolis created using all the footage available now, with new colours, sound effects, dubbed characters and a music score spanning from classic to electronic, from pop to heavy metal, from... Ok, fellas. You can kill me now.

Slightly OT:

Any plans for a 2.35 Interstellar?

Not by me :)

Saw it the other week and it would be great if somebody did a 2:35 version.

Yep!

just finished today the sony vegas project for Interstellar letterbox theatrical reconstruction!!! I followed a pirate version filmed directly from the silver screen and cropped all the imax scene to the correct position/ camera movement etc.. My fingers hurts so bad...

But i have a problem. I used as source an mkv file converted with noob programs to some shitty file that vegas could handle... audio too has terrible lossy quality.I don't have Blu-Ray on my pc and can't rip myself audio and video out from it.
.. i need a source file as much unaltered as i can... if somebody can help me...

Greetings from italy!
