I had trouble with 5.1 audio in Premiere Pro when I was learning to edit. I found this video (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb4HwSUrAjw) very helpful. If you’re editing 5.1 audio with headphones on like me, I’d suggest regularly isolating each channel to check that every audio transition sounds smooth for each separate channel.
This is pretty big for a first project, but I think you’re doing great!

Watch out Rebels, a new contender for creepiest-looking Yoda portrayal has emerged!
Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures premiering on Disney+ and Disney Junior May 4.
Yeah I don’t usually give feedback (positive or negative) unless it’s specifically requested. But I loved the v1 of your HP edits and was thrilled when you released the recent upgrades!
Fanediting is a hobby and no one should feel obligated to share their work or meet others’ demands. And if someone’s dissatisfied with what a faneditor has generously chosen to share, they can do what myself and I imagine many other faneditors have done and make their own edit that meets their criteria. It’s actually a great way to get started already having a good reference to use. I even considered remaking your edits for my own library so I could have higher quality versions but with the upgraded v2.1 now I probably won’t.
I definitely look forward to any future releases that you may share (FB, HP or otherwise) and thank you for the gifts you have already given. Above all, I hope you find joy in your hobbies and don’t get discouraged by others.
I noticed in v7 during the droids in elevator scene the center channel is muted. I think when you muted the droids dialogue you meant to add back the sfx of the droids moving/readying blasters like you did in the L/R channels.
I really like those proposed changes and hope you follow through on these new edits. I’ve grown less critical of the prequels lately and something like your edits but closer to the theatrical with some of the deleted scenes sounds great!
I don’t have a surround system nor have I checked the subtitles, but I too find the lower video quality distracting. I would love to get a higher quality option to save me the work of replacing all the footage myself (which I was considering doing since I love your edits so much)
501st Legion - beginning felt a bit disjointed and tacked on, though I get that it sets up heavy and 99’s sacrifices. everything after the time skip was smooth and felt cohesive. pretty good episode for early clone wars.
Resistance on Ryloth - transition from retreating ships going into hyperspace fading out to same ships floating in space was awkward. I’d cut from hyperspace shot to anakin talking to ahsoka inside the ship (wipe, radial); music transition from Syndulla’s appearance to Ahsoka with general guy in the medbay was rather abrupt. good episode overall, possibly my favorite so far.
I recently watched the newest versions of episodes 1 and 2.
Ep 1: from what I remember of an early version I watched a while back this is considerably better. Still feels a bit rushed as characters jump between locations rapidly, but not too much so. it seems like the important moments are all intact and it never gets confusing or jarring. the one oddity for me was the very brief intro to ventress as a seemingly prominent villain quickly followed by her abrupt disappearance. her presence in the episode just felt out of place. impressive work getting all that content down to 20 minutes and maintaining character development and coherence!
Ep 2: Again this felt like it had a fairly quick pace moving between locations but I understand it’s best to get through these subpar early eps as efficiently as possible. this is done very well again. i think i noticed a transition or two that felt off/abrupt (e.g. ahsoka’s dialogue cuts off i think during the rescue search “is anybody out there?”) and the first scene of grievous in hyperspace with the fade out/in transitions on either end (i think i’d eliminate that short scene altogether since another hyperspace grivous scene shows up soon after and is more effective imo). also, the malevolence gets pulled into that planetoid awfully quick lol.
those end credits are fantastic! bravo!
still not a fan of the opening expository text. half as much would be fine i guess but personally i find it unnecessary as the majority is communicated or implied in the episode but i’ve seen you state your case for it several times here so…[shrug] not really a big deal and it’s well done aesthetically.
these edits are such an improvement! the only thing left that really needs work is the animation ha! it’s my wife’s first time watching and she compared it to the old nancy drew video games she played as a kid. i keep telling her it gets better. luckily her bar for 3d animation is already quite low. lol
can’t wait for more! i’m continually impressed by the level of dedication and results you’re achieving on this!
ep 1 v2 is much improved but there are a few bits where the music starts to drown out the dialogue. specifically after obi says to ventress “i didn’t know you brought friends” i couldn’t hear what ventress was saying and when rex says something to ahsoka about “it it’s experience you’re looking for, you’re about to get it”
also, the fade out ending seemed odd and not very final
super impressed with what you’ve accomplished with what was an underwhelming start to an excellent series. can’t wait for the next one!
corruption on mandalore is labeled s02e05 and v1.0 in the spreadsheet but the linked file is named s02e04…(v0.1)?
01x01 - The New Padawan
- I love the intro with finding Maul, but there is no relevance for this in the episode, or in the next few episodes. Is this really the best place for that cold open?
It’s a valid observation. This cold open doesn’t get payoff until mid season 3. The reason I first thought to include it was because it kind of acts like a promise to the audience - “Maul. Darksaber. Mandalorians. Coming soon.” - and since those elements are the ‘backbone’ of TCW:R (and I pull those plot elements forward to start a lot earlier) I thought it might be good to get them established up front. I’m trying to make this show more of a serialised drama than the anthology it began as. I could be convinced to remove it if enough people think it does more harm than good.
a little late on this reply but i too think it would be odd if the maul teaser doesn’t get some kind of pay off by the end of the same season it’s in. i love how it’s presented though, it’s a really intriguing teaser!
Valid, but I’m already very tight on space…
I’d remove “youth”, it sounds redundant with academy which implies they’re young students
just finished watching s01e01 and it was really well done! the first bit with ventress I noticed characters’ locations jumped around a bit suddenly a couple times, but the rest of the episode was really smooth. and the credits artwork was excellent. only technical issue I noticed was a stray frame at 14:20 when Anakin is talking to Rex (right after “there’s been a mix-up, the youngling isn’t with me”)
also, i’m getting ‘access denied’ on s01e04 and e05
can’t wait to watch the next one!
I’ve been waiting for the polished versions to check these out and started watching ep 1 today. A couple notes: the opening shot of the drifting ship in The New Padawan (v1.6) is messed up (flickering, looping). Also, who’s supposed to be saying “what are you?” because it looks like pre vizsla but definitely doesn’t sound like him.
wow, watching these had me forgetting the newsreels existed! yeah, the text is definitely an improvement. nice thorough explanation!
-2, just to balance it out.
so you think you’re the chosen one? haha
i also don’t love the opening texts, it’s just too much. i would prefer a short phrase like the original episodes use or none at all. on the other hand, it would be easy to edit out if i really want to so it wouldn’t bother me too much if you keep them in.
thanks for the explanation! aside from this, i thought your editing work was excellent. hopefully i’ll be able to upgrade my equipment sometime soon to enjoy the full 4k experience you’ve provided.
i downloaded the 1080p version of Rebels and immediately noticed the image seemed unusually bright. a comparison with my blu-ray rips revealed not only a difference in brightness but also loss of detail.
blu-ray
NumeralJoker 1080p (notice the grass blades have almost entirely disappeared)
it’s especially noticeable on faces where it sometimes makes skin look like it’s literally glowing.
blu-ray
NumeralJoker 1080p
i don’t usually notice or look for this kind of thing but it was immediately apparent that the image looked off. idk if this is an unintended effect of your process converting to 4k and then back to 1080p or intentional, but i have to say i much prefer the original look. also, i proceeded to compare your clone wars 1080p version with the blu-ray and found similar brighness increase, though it didn’t seem as pronounced in the few shots i checked. unfortunately, i don’t have the equipment to enjoy your 4k hdr upscales which seem to be the primary goal of your project, so i understand if this isn’t worth addressing.
So, since I updated my extended edition of ROTS, I’ve been working on this again. I’m trying to rework the “Plot to Destroy the Jedi” deleted scene into something that isn’t redundant with the war table scene (The reference in The Clone Wars kind of convinced me to keep it). Here’s what I have right now: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lhItqeRBSgVbRQnN3Jc_wfIzPvP0hg4D/view?usp=sharing
Unfortunately in the surround mix you can hear some whispers of Yoda’s original dialogue in the other audio channels. Does anyone happen to know where I can find the music that was originally used in this scene? Was it something from Episode II?
EDIT: Sorry, just fixed the permissions on the link.
It’s cool, maybe a little bit too quick on the scene cut to the Council meeting.
(if I may, this addition would also be great as part of your extended cut, since you would be adding material)
Agreed. those wipe transitions sometimes can feel a little rushed to me when the dialogue starts before the wipe finishes. I think it’s a good placement for the scene though I’m wondering why you didn’t use the entire deleted scene?
yeah, this is one of the few moments the audio transition stuck out to me too. it sounds like the rhythm is aligned, but the downbeats aren’t aligned so it feels like there’s an extra or missing beat(s).
And I agree with hinvention that it’s pretty amazing that this is probably the biggest flaw I could find in your edit.
Since you reminded me, I went ahead and replaced the DOTF snippet with the actual OST in higher quality. I put it in place where it was, and extended it backward to the beginning of the track.
What do you guys think? Too heavy?
on its own it’s very well done; however, i feel like the sequels already rely too much on nostalgia and this feels like adding more. also, i feel like jw did an excellent scoring job giving each trilogy it’s own distinct flavour while still making them distinctly star wars and don’t like the idea of crisscrossing them.
Yes, that’s right.
thanks!
Trying to mix and match the audio edits I like best, but never done this before. When it comes to channel mapping, are the lossless tracks (1-6) in this order: L,R,C,LFE,LS,RS
I followed through the idea and I am almost finished. Hal kindly provided me with the uncompressed tracks to work with, using the tracks without KoR voices, adding two alterations:
I have implemented Palpatine full broadcast just after the opening crawl. I must say, it would work even better with the original crawl stating “The dead speak! The galaxy has heard a mysterious broadcast, a threat of REVENGE in the sinister voice of the late EMPEROR PALPATINE.”, but it also works well in the context of this new crawl;
Since I am not always a huge fan of created sound content on fanedits, I have reinstalled the “civil fleet arrival” audio from the theatrical version. It was a very well done addition guys, it’s just I prefer to keep the pure musical original version.
I was thinking about using Duel of the fate cue in a more obvious way, but as I am not familiar with the movie enough, I am not sure where to implement it in a seamless way. If anyone has a idea I could play with, tell me.
I have adjusted Burbin subtitles in 3 languages to go along with this alternate audio track 2. I will make a final check and begin to import a 640kbps output by today or tomorrow. I will probably share it to anyone interested through a MEGA link.
if you’ve finished this, i’m interested!
