Only Ep. IV of the Sky Broadcasts is derived from the 2004 Master, ESB and ROTJ are 2011 versions.

I also gave it a last shot on the 2004 HDTV Master Version of A New Hope. Video Bitrate is 10% higher now, but this is definitely the end of the line for this cap, because I won’t get more juice out of my DVB-C source.

No they didn’t, all prequels, ESB and ROTJ are 2011 BD versions except ANH which is still the 2004 version.

I’m still checking all the raw recordings, but at the moment it seems that 4 Featurettes are missing. The schedule was very erratic, some have been shown twice a day, others only twice in that two weeks.

I will upload them as a big package on myspleen when everything is sorted out.

BTW, I’m pretty confident that Sky will do something similar again around christmas when EPVIII will come out, so we can add the missing Featurettes to the package.

And Sky Germany is doing it again - between August the 28th and September the 10th they will transform their channel Sky Cinema Hits into “Sky Cinema Star Wars HD”.

I finally had the time to do a complete comparison and can confirm what ^…^ already suggested:

The cap of ANH is based on the 2004 master, not the BR.
Episodes I, II, III, V and VI are the 2011 versions.

Regarding the low overall bitrate - these are DVB-C streams, and german cable network providers try to really squeeze the last bit out of their bandwith to broadcast some hundred useless home shopping channels.
Besides that they use a very dynamic implementation of VBR. Although the overall bitrate is somewhere around 6Mbit, during high motion scenes the peak bitrate is somewhere between 11 and 12Mbit.
Unfortunately I don’t have the technical setup to capture DVB-S streams of Sky, which would have a significantly higher bitrate.

I hope you still can use the streams for any kind of preservation.

UPDATE: Unfortunately this cap has a bitstream error at 0:30:07, causing artifacts in the lower half of the screen. (My cable providers policies state that 2 to 3 dropouts per hour are acceptable - ridiculous!) I will keep an eye on Sky’s guides for the next broadcast date.

Just grabbed my iPhone VR Glasses and was beamed back to 1994 when I did this ride several times in Anaheim.

OK, I’m still recording a second set of the Saga to make sure I have flawless TS’ of every Episode, but the first untouched cut of TPM is ready.

Yoda is CGI.
Its running time is 2:10:50 with 25fps including the german credits for the dubbing staff.
My BluRay Version with 23.976fps runs 2:16:10.
Doing the maths the 5mins and 20secs less running time pretty much equal the higher frame rate.

I will prepare all 7 Episodes as untouched TS.

I know there is no need for another broadcast stream that is derived from one of the Blu-Ray releases everyone already owns and chances are very high that most of the episodes aired on sky fall into that category.
But we won’t really know until we got our hands on them.
Let’s hope that they got some copies in their vault that give us some valuable stuff for restoration, de-specialization, re-specialization, etc…

Hi Folks,

sky Germany is doing it again and will air all 7 Episodes on the first weekend of may on their sub-channel sky Hits.
Due to the magic of a Linux based receiver box I’m able to directly record the decrypted Transport Streams untouched on HDD without the need to attach some HDMI capturing devices. They are broadcasting in 1080i50 at an approximately data rate of around 10MBit, no broadcasting logos.

Having enjoyed the excellent work of Harmy and many other people in this community more than once, I would be more than pleased to share the streams with anyone for whatever preservation purpose they could be needed.

I will let you know when everything is on my HDD. Any upload and hosting support is welcome.

this is a hell of a release. I completely prefer this over TN1s Silver Screen Edition of SW without disrespecting their effort.
Watching this simply makes me feel like being an 11 year old and experiencing the magic of this movie with all the imaginations behind it. You’re right, it’s shaking and has optical glitches, but it feels amazing.

Keep up your amazing work with your Despezialized Editions, but also release stuff like that when available. I love it.
