If you don't like the fact that Harmy is willing to go back and spend MORE of his time fixing this for free, then I suggest you leave the thread and start your own restoration project.

Or what, huh??

Were you expecting Infinity to make two suggestions?  I think the one he made was sufficient.  PM me if you want my advice on some more productive uses of your time than trolling this thread.

Yeah. There would really be nothing to be gained from using a higher bitrate. And, ok, I'm just gonna go out and say it, even though it's against my better judgement - I will likely do a new render for the BD in which I will fix a few things. I would still prefer any problem be reported via PM, so that I'm not caved in by an avalanche of suggestions and people trying to convince me to fix stuff I don't want to fix.

I might lower the gamma slightly on a few shots in the Luke meets Ben scene, but that's as far as I'm going with it.

If nothing else, you'll be well positioned to tell us what it's like being a steak sandwich in a shark tank.

But then we're getting a lesser quality mkv by creating an mkv from the AVCHD unlike this where the mkv is higher quality. Why the hate for mkv? It's the perfect format for viewing on media players. Myself I want to watch this on my HDTV and the mkv can easily play on either my media players or my blu-ray player which supports mkv or even my tv itself which also plays mkv.

Then create it from the Blu-Ray instead of the AVCHD....

No shit, Sherlock.  I am just venting my concern because it was stated that no new MKV files were going to be made by Harmy.  I see now that h_h is going to do the fix himself.  So, I patiently await the new information on the fix.

If you spend a few minutes on Google, you'd realize how easy a problem this will be to fix once the new tracks are released. Dial back the attitude, dude.

So can we get the remastered version yet? Or is it yet to be uploaded?
If we can, where is it available? KAT.ph?

After receiving a death threat from some fanboys who didn't understand the purpose of the project, Harmy decided not to release the remastered version.  All we have are some early workprints.  Sorry.

finally got to watch this today, for the third time, in proper fashion (51" plasma, 5.1). my friends, this thing not only has to been *seen* to be believed...you've gotta hear it, too. I need to get a better sub, I've discovered.

^^THIS^^

As good as this looks on a laptop screen, there's really no substitute for watching it on a 50"+ screen.  I am green with envy hearing about people projecting this on screens over 100".

I'd hardly say he's getting bent out of shape.  Much more likely he's frustrated that some people didn't bother to read back just a few pages where he specifically addressed the dune sea scene, and then again couldn't be bothered to keep comments regarding perceived flaws in PMs, despite his specific requests.

I was wondering, does anyone know if harmy has plans to remaster his versions of Empire and Return in the near future, like he did with SW? I haven't dl'ed them yet, and if they were coming soon, I might as well just wait for that version...

Reading through Harmy's recent posts, I'd say you shouldn't expect releases in the immediate future.  From what I can gather, he has some real life matters (scholastics, future employment, etc.) to tackle, then he plans on packaging the existing version up as a blu-ray (which will require him to finish up with the menus and artwork and other extras).  He also suggested he'll be making a video or two containing some comparisons and/or making-of shots.  Plus, he started working on Star Wars 2.0 in earnest in 2011, and you can see how long it took to finish.

Short answer: don't wait to download the existing despecialized editions of ESB and ROTJ.  Both are in great shape and very watchable.

By the way, I barely know my ass from my elbow, so you might want to take this entire post with a grain of salt. T

Yes, that scene was always this dark and was rather sloppily brightened for the SE. You'll also notice that the scene where Luke meets Ben is very bright - this look is also absolutely accurate to my IB source - It was so extreme that I was afraid to go there, so it wasn't that bright on any of the workprints but I decided to stay as accurate as possible in the end.

You mean this scene?

OH....MY....GOD.

Harmy, I just finished watching your Remastered Edition.  This has to be, without a doubt, one of the most remarkable efforts in film restoration ever undertaken by a single man.  I mean, I really cannot believe what you've done with the sources available to you.  Amazing doesn't do this justice.  This is simply extraordinary. Thank you.

EDIT:  I should mention that the torrent I downloaded from 1337x.org contained a badly damaged MKV, and though I had it recheck my download against the torrent, I was still left with a damaged MKV.  Fortunately, I was able to download it from another (non-torrent) site.
