Ghosts is available in HD for sure.

Any idea where? I’ve only seen VHS and Laserdisc rips (the latter has subtitles burned into the picture since it was only in France).

Edit: I did end up finding it, since it apparently had at least one HDTV broadcast. Sadly, even though it’s 4:3, the channel watermark does intrude in the top-left of the screen at the start of the dance numbers. Even then, this is still the best looking I’ve seen the full thing by a long shot.

PFClean-PLE 2017 not opening

Hope you’ve already solved the issue, but could be worth re-installing the software, or trying a different download of it?

Forums at doom9 and videohelp may also be able to offer you a solution - good luck with it.

Yeah, turns out the problem was just that PFClean didn’t like to work well with my older computer. I had to do an upgrade either way because of different reasons, and now it works.

Are there any clean sources for Michael Jackson music videos in HD (other than the ones in Moonwalker)? I’m specifically looking for Thriller, Bad, and Ghosts, but it would be cool to see if anyone knows anything about the others (also stuff like Captain EO). I know the first two have very short clips in the Moonwalker opening montage (and are cropped to 16:9 at that), but that’s about it. And of course there was the Thriller 3D IMAX release, but with the IMAX cropping, forced 3D, added jumpscares and sound effects, and the fact that the only sources are the 30-second trailer and camrip snippets doesn’t really help here.

Info: Mono soundtracks that were butchered with 5.1 remixes in later releases

I’ve also heard before that the recent 3D IMAX release of Michael Jackson’s Thriller had a few audio changes, mostly regarding extra sound effects added, like with feature film releases that have already been mentioned. I’m not sure what was specifically changed, and I can’t exactly go back and determine it for myself, so I’ll have to go by the words of other fans. I’m also pretty certain that a surround mix was used for this presentation, while every release before this has been in stereo.

That’s on top of everything else that already differs Thriller 3D from the original, of course.

Where do people go to get 35mm movie film reels?
Time

I was wondering how people on this website are able to get their hands on 35mm prints of movies for restoration and preservation. Obviously I don’t think the answer is to just wait until a listing for a specific film shows up on eBay, but I wouldn’t really know any other specific place. Is it some place like private collections and local archives that allow you to rent stuff out, or is it something else? And where would I even start to look for these things in my area (or further beyond, for that matter)? Sorry for the stupid questions, but I just have no idea where to start with this whole thing.

You probably know already but Night Trap recently had its original source negatives found and scanned for re-release. They basically “remade” the game and it looks gorgeous. There’s a clear demand for projects like that but movement on any of them is little to none unfortunately.

Negatives? I was under the impression that Night Trap was shot on video.

Night Trap was actually shot on 35mm film, but that’s not what was used for the 25th Anniversary Remaster. The 35mm negatives are lost, so what you see in the game are time-synced tape masters that James Riley (the director of Night Trap) kept. There’s a few tape glitches and some scenes are missing outright, which you can see here

PFClean-PLE 2017 not opening
Time

I’ve been trying to work with PFClean-PLE 2017 (because PFClean 2018 doesn’t have a PLE version), but I have the issue of the program not doing anything. The program installs and opens fine, but it will just stay on the “Copyright The Pixel Farm” text window, never opening up into the full GUI, so I can’t load files or actually use any features of the program. Is the problem because it’s an older version of the program, or am I doing something wrong on my part?

No unfortunately not. I’d suggest physically cleaning the film instead of digital cleaning, it’s a lot less work. You can get the demo version of PF Clean here:

https://www.toolfarm.com/demo_downloads

It’s in the “standalone” category.

I think something might be wrong with that download or I’m just messing up on my own. I’ve had the window sit open for quite a while now and nothing is happening past the “Copyright The Pixel Farm” text in the standard-looking text window.

Could it be a problem with the program or am I missing something that I’m doing wrong?
