Return of the Jedi: Dan Edit - Clips Online (Released)

Sluggo, yeah it was something I was just curious about. I like some of the imagery in the sandstorm scene - and honestly didn't think it would work at all dubbing in the dialogue like that, but I don't think it's too bad. You're right about the music, though. After the big sail barge climax the music would need to be more tranquil.

Vladius, thanks for the kind words. I have made a really experimental edit of Jedi that I may add the sandstorm scene to, at least if I can somehow find out how to clean up the picture. But it definitely won't be replacing the other version.

The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread

So here it is used as an introduction to the Pod Race.  The Pod Race preperations have also been edited, based on edits done by Yads (who I think took his cues from another edit but I'm not sure) but rearranged to fit the new music.

I didn't take the cues from another edit. I think (it's been a while since I edited it) I used "Anakin's Dream" from episode three for the race build up, which gave it a nice epic feel.

Your race day scene is interesting - I just don't like the TPM celebration music. At all.

It’s an interesting idea – introducing the Jedi that way. Can’t remember any other TPM edit going about things that way. The obvious problem it seems to me: the Jedi are the main characters of the movie, so they should have a proper introduction, and ideally (if you follow the ‘rules’ of scriptwriting) they should be introduced pretty much at the very start of the movie. Although Lucas broke that rule with Luke in ANH, so clearly it’s not a rule you can’t break and get away with.

The main issue I imagine it would create is Jar Jar: without any of his introduction scenes, who is this cartoon rabbit following the Jedi around?

I also wonder, if you’re gonna run with this concept, whether you should change the opening crawl to take out all mentions of the Jedi coming to the Queen’s rescue – to really increase the tension, the sense of all being lost, until – BAM! – they jump down and go lightsabering and save the day.

And, totally off-topic, I browsed your Youtube channel and saw you like The Kinks’ “20th Century Man”. Muswell Hillbillies is one of favourite albums of all time, so that made me smile. =)

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

The only information I wanted (and the only part of this bluray release that interests me) is about the deleted scenes - what they’re gonna be, and more importantly if they’ll be remastered.

What a pathetic “announcement”, only matched by the patheticness of the extras. Possibly a new low for Lucasfilm this.

I must admit I’m a little surprised how much criticism that audio transition to the end credits has got. I always listen to the edits through headphones turned up loud with noise reduction on, and it sounds fine to me. That said... I’ll try to pitch the credit music lower, as you suggest – but, to be honest, I probably won’t upload it yet either way (lousy internet speed) so it’s not worth the bandwidth usage for one change to the edit.

When the bluray is released I may well come back to this edit, put the Luke lightsaber scene in there, maybe some other deleted scenes if they’re any good, as well as perhaps putting Dagobah at the start.

Thanks for the review! I’ve had a rotten day so this has cheered me up quite a lot.

A couple of quick points: the PAL dvd is up on fanedit now. Also, I’d recommend you check out Spence’s Final Cut of Jedi (also up on fanedit) - it’s more radical and has got some really interesting ideas and great stuff in there. Dagobah at the start works great in particular.

The Dagobah clip is terrific, it really adds to the tension/spookiness of the scene.

The extra Threepio dialogue - I presume it's from the radio play? - sounds quite different, it doesn't quite sound right; but I'm sure that's partly because I know it's not from the original film. One other thing I'd add, and this sounds really pedantic, it is really pedantic, but it always bothers me when someone who's English says 'gotten'; I always hate hearing Alec Guinness say it, and I don't like Anthony Daniels saying it either.

I wouldn't worry about the length being 90 minutes, man, that's absolutely fine. In my experience 90 minutes is about all that's usable in that film.

I love the way the lightsaber fight plays now! So much more effective and dramatic - albeit a little too succinct.

I've got a feeling this edit will get some rave reviews when it comes out. Should be a good time.
