STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

Adywan,

Are you intending to fix the typo in the opening crawl?

"Evading the dreaded Imperial Starfleet, a group of freedom fighters led by Luke Skywalker has established a new secret base on the remote ice world of Hoth."

It should read:

"Evading the dreaded Imperial Starfleet, a group of freedom fighters led by Luke Skywalker have established a new secret base on the remote ice world of Hoth."

It's an interesting idea, but I feel that Anakin's ghost appearing before Luke and Leia needs to be in the final scene. The montage round the planets would feel like an anti-climax after that.

In an earlier version I had the last shot being that long shot of the three ghosts that precedes the yearbook shot, but I thought it should end with the heroes of the trilogy. It just feels like the right way to end Jedi, for sentimental reasons more than anything else.

Okay, cool. Had you thought the other transition was poor I'd have been worried.

About Naboo, I know there are people here who like to pretend the prequels didn't happen (and I sympathise with that) but for me Jedi is the last chapter of 6 films, so it's apt to include Naboo. Besides if you take out Naboo the same argument could be applied to take out Coruscant and that leaves only two planets, and a pretty crappy montage scene.

But I wouldn't want to remove the montage - since I took out so much of the ewok party the film would be ending too quickly without it.

I thought I'd upload a couple of clips to Youtube, for anyone interested.

Both of these are still being worked on, but they're close to being done. The first is the scene in Jabba's palace where Chewie is captured and then led away.

Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfLZWcO3nk4

The second is the last two minutes of the film.

Any comments and opinions appreciated.

Info & Ideas: ESB and ROTJ Wishlist
Time

thejediknighthusezni, I like your idea of the Bothan ship fleeing the Empire as an action beat to open Jedi. Jedi in its present form does seem to take forever before anything life-and-death happens.

I don't know if you're familiar with ROTJ Fan-o-matic (if not, check it out on youtube) but one of the many excellent ideas was to have Boba Fett given the job of telling the Rebellion about the DS2, including the lie about it not being operational, rather than these Bothans, of whom the audience knows nothing and are never heard about again. Makes sense - aside from giving the Fett something to do, it also means Fett isn't at Jabba's palace and spares us the hideousness of his death scene.

SW Episode III - Reign of the Dark Side (* unfinished project *)
Time

I apologise if this has already been discussed...

My biggest gripe with the whole movie is Anakin's turn and how he willingly slays a group of kids as his first act after the turn. If somehow you could change it so the stormtroopers attack the Jedi Temple and kill the kids while Anakin goes to kill the Trade Federation on Mustafar it would make it a lot more plausible: and in the process it would cement his Dark Side turn as per Sidious' wish (killing unarmed, helpless idiots). Bottom line, I just do not buy that Anakin would kill those kids in cold blood (and no it's not like killing the Sand People, which was done in blind rage).

For me this is the moment that kills the film, it's Lucas' biggest screw up in the prequels, and if you could somehow make that change it might make his turn believable.

Possessed Return of the Jedi-* Resurrected!!*
Time

Possessed: thanks for the kind words re: my edit.

I understand where you're coming from - it's pretty exhausting and depressing watching the same clips day after day. How Adywan does it year after year is unbelievable to me.

I find that taking a week or two off, promising yourself you won't touch it... maybe even trying a quick stress-free fanedit just for yourself - I'm doing an edit of T2 now just for fun (that thumbs up had to go :p) - can help a lot.

I didn't explain that too well - I wasn't trying to suggest a conversation was going on between them, just that they are aware of each other, and making that the point of the scene, rather than Han's bad jokes. It's the first moment in the film where the conflict between father and son is brought in, and that should be the sole focus of the scene, IMO.

What I really wanted to do with that scene: when Piett asks Vader what he should do, is take out Vader's 'I will deal with them myself' dialogue and just have him thinking. It worked great when I tried it, added to the drama of the scene - except that the score I replaced the dialogue with is tinny and sounds nothing like it does in the film.

I checked the sound when the carbonite hits the floor, my edit and the original are both the same. I can't see anything wrong with it.

Thanks for the feedback!

As far as the noticeable cut at the end, I'm aware of it, and I'll probably do a v2 at some point which deals with that.

As for the Han carbonite sound delay, I'll take a look at it compared to the original.

In Shuttle Tydirium I was looking to build up the Luke/Vader conflict. In my edit the scene resembles the Luke/Vader ship to ship conversation at the end of TESB. Which is a good thing to be reminded of. As soon as I get my hands on a decent copy of the Luke lightsaber building scene it'll definitely be going in to try to add some more to this conflict - which the original film neglects.

Glad you like the new Jabba subs.

The reason I'm not sure when a v2 of my edit will be online is because of my internet probs. Last week my modem stopped working - to get online now I'm having to use a USB dongle, with blazing fast speeds of 5k/second.
