I’m not sure this is the best way to introduce myself on this forum, but I was appalled at theforce.net forums today, of which I had been a member of since 2002. There was always great discussion of books and comics, as well as the sequel trilogy once that had been announced. The JCC forum (off topic) was a bit of a shock when I first got there. I couldn’t believe they were making so many hateful jokes about the deaths of celebrities, many of them whose work I really admired. Eventually I developed a thicker skin about that, as I appreciated that they were at least fighting racism, sexism and homophobia.
Today I looked at some old threads through searching, and found that the majority of the members (many of them who consider themselves social justice warriors) were incredibly ableist. The deaf and the blind got zero empathy and tasteless jokes made about them, and many of them admitted to outright hating people with autism and asperger’s syndrome. They’ve attacked others for complaining about the forum being too p.c., but treat people with disabilities as low as they possibly could. One very popular member even said people with aspergers should all die, which got a ton of likes from people who declare themselves sjws in their signatures. How can they consider themselves pc or sjws? I really don’t see how they can live with themselves, and it triggered my ptsd. Most of them stay in their clique JCC forum and don’t post much in the film boards or literature which are a lot less asinine, but I knew I would never be able to ignore that arrogant hate speech from the people that aren’t supposed to use it. I posted a not too graphic nudie picture and got myself banned. Maybe a bit extreme, but I wanted to put that behind me as soon as possible.
I don’t want people to debate the value or lack thereof of SJWS here. I am in no way a prude and can take jokes, but not pure hate speech, especially from progressives who are supposed to be against that. They probably won’t lift the ban because of the way I left. I honestly couldn’t care less. Is anyone here disgusted by TFN forums for any reason? Whether it’s the hypocrisy of the posters, the tyranny of the mods or their policies on discussing Star Wars?
