Army of Darkness - The Primitive Screwhead Edition (Released)
Time
Awesome news on this one, can't wait to check it out!:-)

Have you thought about trying to clean up Within The Woods? That would be pretty great to see.

Another Evil Dead project I was wondering if anyone had attempted was a preservation of the early 80s Japanese LD transfer, which seems to look a lot better than any subsequent 3:4 LD or DVD releases, which going by what I can find have warmer colours, are missing a lightning strike scene, and at points are zoomed in (I only have the later transfer - have only seen screenshots of the Hologram JP LD).

Some info here:

Difference in quality of laserdisc players
Time
OK, so a massive schoolboy error on my part - the optical out was working fine, but the cable had come loose at the back of the amp, which is inside a cabinet. Ugh. It's all working fine now - However, I did find something curious out. I was playing my Assault On Precinct 13 LD and it (according to the back cover) contains an isolated score and a commentary track on the analogue channels. Now, cycling through the audio channels when coming out of the optical out there is always sound on the channels, even when on analogue, but never the commentary or isolated score. This leads me to believe it does not actually output the analogue channels through the digital out - it just plays the digital stereo. Unfortunately I had to remove my RCA connection to my LD as I can out of inputs on my amp, but I will test this soon to verify this.

Thanks again for your help guys!

Difference in quality of laserdisc players
Time
Hey guys, I have a question about the CLD-925 and though I'd stick it here. I got a 925 a few months ago and am very happy with it - it's a fantastic player! Annoyingly though the seller said he would send a manual and didn't and I'm still chasing him up about this, and I'm a bit confused about the optical out on the player. Does anyone know what this is used for? I assumed digital stereo tracks could come out of it, but when I have tried I get nothing - seems they can only come out via the RCA stereo outs. What is the opitical out used for? I'm hoping mine isn't broken...

Thanks in advance!

Has there been any talk of a X0 set supplementary disc? There's a fair amount of unique to laserdisc Star Wars bonus material, that likely wouldn't need nearly as much attention as the actual films do post-capture.

It would be great to get X0 captures of the documentaries, interviews, and unique features on the Definitive set, Faces set, SE set, and the unique to laserdisc documentary releases for each film.

Idea: a Wiki-list of Laserdisc only films and features?
Time
Yes, absolutely, OAR would definitely feature - if there's a reason to make the LD release desirable over the DVD then it should be in the list.

I'm also wanting non-film laserdiscs to be in, like music video Laserdiscs - e.g. Ministry's In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up, and Tin Machine's Oy Vey, Baby (both of which really need preserved!), Twin Peaks visual soundtrack, Laserdisc presentation releases. Basically anything that is unique to laserdisc.

Hehe:-) Well I guess that's a good place to start, could go through it and add ones to a wiki we haven't seen on DVD and cut out the duds and expand on ones people know about. Great thing about wikis is how organic they are once a few people take to updating and maintaining them.

Would this be something people who run this site would want as an offshoot here, or anyone else want to host a wiki and have the knowhow, or this to be a wikipedia effort?

I imagine there would be, but with DVD rereleases happening every week it will be shrinking, and a wiki would be great for documenting this - have a section at the bottom for things that were in the list that have since been rereleased.

I found this:

But looking at it there's so many things there that need to be weeded out as you can get them on DVD now... Do you have a link to your list?

Hey guys,

this is something I’ve been wanting to start for awhile now, and I’m wondering if anyone has any input or better idea of how to do this, but I’m wanting to make a wiki list of films and features which are unique to laserdiscs. If it was started and people helped add and maintain it with their knowledge then it could be a great resource for both laserdisc fans and people wanting to do preservation projects. I don’t know if it’s possible for there to be a wiki section of this site, or indeed another someone runs, or if I should just start up one on wikipedia.

What does everyone think? Can anyone think of the best way to implement this? What format should the information on each list entry contain? If not on wikipedia could even have lists and links to preservations of specific titles. I’d like to get a clear idea of what others think is the best way of doing this before ploughing straight into it on wikipeadia; and if anyone else with wiki resources wants to go ahead and spearhead this then that is also more than fine with me, as it’s a wiki!😃

Anyways, what do people think?

Help Wanted: Project To Collect All Star Wars Documentaries
Time
Would it be worth starting a wiki page as suggested? Would we be able to have one and host it here? This would save us the problem of someone starting their own list and then losing interest or dissapearing.

Off hand, some things I have I didn't see scanning through the list:
Episode 3 newspaper 2DVD set, has some small docs and trailers on it - have to dig it out
ROTJ SE ending workprint footage
The Phandom Menace - DVD released documentary about SW fans around the time of EP1's release

Hmm, interesting. The UK LD set just has 3 chapters on the end of ROTJ which are 2 featurettes (one for each film) about not being 100% happy with the orig version and going back to them and what was changed for the SE versions. I imagine this is the same as what's on the US ones - just not split up into small chapters..? The UK releases also don't have the trailers, but do come in a nice book-cover style box, and each film has it's own rather nice looking gloss finish sleeve.

Help Wanted: Original Jabba footage - HELP NEEDED
Time
I have an old video which has deleted scenes from ANH, It's been so long since I've watched it that I don't know what was all on it - it could have had Jabba footage, it definately had treadmill and cantina... I will look this week when I'm back at my folk's place. The tape also has workprint footage from the Jedi special edition's new ending.

BTW - you're not Skot Kirkwood who rand the Current 93 site are you..?

I got a copy of the PAL SE 4LD boxset the other day - and at the end of the JEDI 2nd disc it has the 3 featurettes on the new features in the 97 cuts, so they are on there - but didn't see any sign of the trailers...

I'm wondering, is there a difference in the sound mix on the PAL and NTSC SE laserdiscs? I heard that you can't get AC3 on PAL laserdiscs, so does my set have an inferior mix to the NTSC one or is it the same mix under a different name..?

Thanks again for the info! I have a horrible feeling my current TV doesn't actually have a S-Video input thinking about it... I will try put the composite though and see if it looks better than scart. I'm definately going for a D925, you've sold me on that, am trying on ebay right now for one.

Are separate video processor/scaler's incredibly expensive..? How much worse do you think laserdiscs look on a LCD screen?

Thanks again!
