Here's a picture to show what I mean:

I can send you the logo I used for that very cover as an Adobe Illustrator document if you like. Send me an e-mail at cerbero@exstyle.nu and I'll send it back to ya.

jimbo: You have to remember that the source material (the LD) isn't anamorphic in the first place, so you're bound to lose a bit of quality since you're stretching the image when converting to anamorphic. That said however, I went for the anamorphic set since I have a 16:9 TV, and the non-anamorphic set would look worse on my TV since I would have to use the TV's zoom feature.

Erbos: Glad you like 'em
I'll change that Fullscreen/Widescreen error in the morning.
I couldn't find any good pictures to use for the back of the Supplemental Material covers. If you know where I can find some fairly high-res 'behind the scenes' pictures or something like that, let me know and I'll be sure to include them on the covers.

thedalek & sweyland: Whoops! Fixed it, thanks for pointing that out

thedalek: I'm toying with the idea of making my own hard paper box to put the keep-cases in, like the one in the official Indiana Jones set. Should be possible... If it's not though, I might do one for a quad keep-case instead.

BTW, I agree on the official DVD covers, they're awful. Looks like they're made by some kid who's just learning Photoshop having a field-day - with the glows and the lens-flares etc.

Alright, thanks to Rikter and Bossk supplying me with material, I'm done with my covers.

They come in 2x2 variations; One version uses the theatrical posters for the fronts, while the other is made to look like the original individual LD sleeves from the actual box set. Both of these versions comes in two flavors - one for TR47's set, and one for the 'Anamorphic set'.

I'm assuming that the Supplementals disc from TR47's set has the same content as the one from the 'Anamorphic set' (I don't have the TR47 set to check it out myself), so the details on the back of those covers are identical. If this is wrong, or if you find any other errors or things that can be bettered upon, please post here and tell me about it.

I might do inlays and disc labels later on if I feel like it, but it's not a priority right now.

PLEASE DO NOT SPREAD THESE LINKS.
YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO SHARE THE COVERS, BUT PLEASE HOST THEM ON YOUR OWN SERVER IF YOU DECIDE TO DO SO!

Now, here we go (each pack is around 10 mb):

Thanks again, one step closer to the goal

Now all I need is scans of the original posters (I've got some that might work, but it would look better if I had some in higher resolution, prefferably without the logos, although I realise that might be a long shot). Also, not ultra necessary, but it would be great if someone had it - a scan of the back of any of the individual movie sleeves from the actual LD box set, just so I can read the text and see all the logos there (I'm talking about the fine print also). I've only been able to this one...

Sorry for kind of hijacking this thread BTW, but I really want to make these as good as possible

I'm stuck in the creation process again. To make the covers look like the original LD packaging, I need a font called Bodega Sans Black, but it would cost me $40, and I'm just not prepared to pay that to use it one time only. So I'm wondering if anyone knows of a freeware font that looks similar? The closer the better obviously.

I've been re-working the Definitive Collection logo in vector format using Adobe Illustrator, and it's going pretty well, except that I can't for the life of me figure out what font is used for the "WIDESCREEN COLLECTOR'S EDITION" and "THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION" text in the logo (see image). If anyone has any idea, please post here and tell me about it

I have about 1.5 gigs of art and stuff I've collected for my covers and I would be happy to send them to you!

I would also like a copy of your Special Edition covers to add to my cover collection (I have about 20-60 covers now )

Send me a PM with your mailing addy!

Rich

Your covers rock, great representations of the 'Faces' set, but I think the Definitive Collection looks cooler

I sent you an e-mail to the address in your forum profile BTW, in stead of a PM.

Hi, I'm new to the forums.

I've been following the bootleg discussion thread, and I realised I haven't seen any real good covers based on the actual look of the Definitive Collection LDs. Seeing as how the contents in both the sets which are regarded as the best out there - TR47's set and the 'Anamorphic set' - are based on the Definitive Collection LDs, shouldn't the covers be too? I think so, and I've begun preliminary work on a set of covers, but I haven't been able to find any good source material (I don't own the set myself, or I would scan it), so that's why I thought I'd try requesting here.

Some examples of material that might be useful:
  • 150-300 dpi scans of major design elements on the Definitive Collection LD packaging
  • The "Star Wars Trilogy - The Definitive Collection" logo in high resolution, or in vector format.
  • Fairly high-resolution versions of the original poster artwork (since that seems to be the artwork that most people would like to see for the covers
  • The synopsis/movie information text printed on the Definitive Collection packaging (if any)

Any material at all really, I'd be very grateful for. Naturally, I would make these covers available to everyone here on the forums. Also, I would make two versions with slightly different text on the back - one for the TR47 set, and one for the 'Anamorphic set'.

I would also like to know any requests for things that you think should be included in these covers - specific artwork, texts, etc. If we pull together, hopefully we will be able to make the best OT covers yet

Here are some previews of some SE covers I made using scans of a 1997 set of SE LDs:
