Since bad new members accuse us of being awful to new members, I’m making a point of recognizing good new members. You’re a good new member. Welcome!

+1

So you’re one of the bad ones?

He thought you were asking to be my +1 on valentines day, obviously.

Who said I wasn’t?

it is true that frink never disappoints.

One of the things that kind of bothered me is having an apostrophe 'S' after the name John Williams.  After researching it, I saw that it could be written and pronounced either way, but the majority showed that it should just be written as Williams'   ...and pronounced just as his name sounds.

The plural of "Williams" should have an "apostrophe s" on the end.  http://www.bartleby.com/141/strunk.html

Hairy_hen,

A follow-up question re the audio streams. Which is higher quality, the Digital Dolby (AC-3) bitstream or the "core" bitstream from the DTS-HD MA track? (The core stream is all I can ever get VLC to play from a DTS-HD MA track). I'm guessing the DTS-HD MA core is still better since it will still have almost three times the bitrate of DD 5.1 but wanted to ask you.

This is a tough question, due to the radically differing nature of the audio codecs and the way they store/process the sound.  Both Dolby Digital and DTS are capable of delivering excellent results when used at their maximum bitrates (640 kbps and 1509 kbps respectively), so any demonstrable difference between them is going to be quite minimal.  Go with whichever one works best for the format you're watching in, and don't worry about it.

Got it. Thanks for all your hard work on the audio. Has there been any thought of releasing some tracks as LPCM or would the file sizes be too large?

@bouvines:

The logo is the same one as in SW v2.5 and it's sourced from the BD of Alien.

As to why I decided to re-create the subs from scratch - well this is currently the best source available to me - and I mean literally that specific Daily Motion video.

Ah, got it. Thanks for the info, and I'm glad to hear you already had the BD idea.

Harmy, I've now watched a fair chunk of the work print (I didn't want to watch the whole thing through straight and spoil the experience of watching the actual release) and really have no significant comments. Phenomenal work.

One possible thought I had for version 3 relates to the Fox logo. Is that a GOUT upscale? If that's right, I wonder if blu-rays of other films might serve as possible high def sources for that logo, which must have been used in tons of films from the early 80's. Anyway, just an idea.

Also, just out of curiosity, why did you decide to recreate the credits from GOUT and 35 mm for starwars but rebuild them from scratch for ESB? Are the 35 mm sources not as good this time around?

Maybe I'm just imagining things, but looking at the for example the Kershner frame in comparison to the frame from the team -1 scan you posted here (http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Harmys-THE-EMPIRE-STRIKES-BACK-Despecialized-Edition-HD-DVD9-AVCHD-and-SD-NTSC-DVD5-AVAILABLE-NOW-Read-1st-post/post/713401/#TopicPost713401), it seemed to me like the characters are a bit farther apart. But I defer to your judgment.

I think this debate over the rounded corners has gotten a bit too heated on both sides. I wouldn't have added the rounded corners, but it's pretty minor in the scheme of things and obviously doesn't detract substantially from the amazing work harmy is doing and from which we are all benefiting. On the other hand, this is a forum in which to discuss harmy's work, and so if people want to comment on the corners, they should be free to do so (politely of course).
