On the splizzeen there appears to be a new 3D release. I know nothing about it, but hoping it is superior to the old file from years back.

Let me know how it is if you get it. We can trade file sizes and see if it is the same one. The one I have starts with the text title card about the intro not being in 3D.

I had a chance to skim through it this afternoon. It does have the text title at the beginning. The 3D seems to have a bit more crosstalk than the older file, but it at least stays in full 3D throughout, instead of slowly becoming a 2D movie in a 3D window the way the older version did.

It is in the form of an ISO, sized 25.03, and luckily I still had a few 50GB discs stored away to burn. It’s a nice package. It even opens with the standard Paramount logo when the disc boots up, like a retail disc. It’s classy, I’ll give it that.

Fascinating. Mine was an mkv but I seem to recall a similar experience. I wonder which came first. I don’t know why more people aren’t dying for this or working to make it right. That said I do give this attempt props. It doesn’t look like the version that used the overseas DVD for one eye and Blu-ray for the other. It looked like a new source maybe even a print?

It’s definitely watchable, and I will be keeping the disc in my collection for sure. Hell, I might even print me a cover for it and toss it in a case to place on the shelf.

I highly agree that the demand for a retail release is surprisingly quiet. I’d say Jackass 3D is another one that I’d gladly buy if it were sold, but at the same time no one seems to ask for it.

Just thought I’d come back to this topic for anyone still looking, it does seem that My wish will finally come true for Friday the 13th 3-D! The just announced shout factory box set for October contains a new 3-D transfer. Not a lot of details yet other than it will be actual new 3-D and not the red-blue. I’m excited to see how a properly done release of this movie looks with the new 3-D technology at home on the big screen.

The fan made 3D SbS cuts floating around were very good given what I know, however I am hopeful that this looks way better and as good as the polarized version in theaters. Especially towards the end of the film where I felt the fan made attempts started to lose quality. I’m just hopeful that they were not leaks of the same transfer as that would be a bit of a disappointment because they were definitely lacking in some areas. Anyway, excited to finally see that someone took note of this movie to put out a proper 3-D version.

If anyone screens this let me know what you think. I screened it last night on 150 inch projected DLP 3D projector.

Effects varied from good to fantastic, though I’m still unsure if this is a manual conversion or an actual. A lot of the slower burn effects look very good, yet some of the quick frame effects such as the harpoon and eyeball gags happen so fast I just see two images still (though that may be a limitation or my own eyes not being up to snuff).

I’m curious still to know the source of this and if it’s pure or just a reasonable attempt to simulate it.

Thanks for letting me know this was out there. Definitely in 3D throughout and has more scenes than that prior fan-made one which as you noted was flat for the last 30 minutes or so.

There is a new (well new to me) version of the F13 3D out that is razor dang sharp. A ton of the misaligned 3D and shots that go flat are fixed. It’s pretty much amazing. Close as we’ll get to a real release by Paramount. It’s out there folks, just go hunting.

Thanks. Found it and this is new and the real deal. I hope to find out more. It has the title card reminding you the opening moments are not in 3D. This is a new transfer and someone did a loving job with it. If I didn’t know better I’d say it was from inside the studio. It even has a 5.1 mix.

Was it a private tracker? Or is it easy to find and I’m just missing it? Is it SBS?

I have a subscription to a Usenet service that had it. My hat goes off to the mystery creator. Someone put some love into this and seems to have have good access to the original source material or a print.

Any tips/hints on where to hunt? Having no luck! Thanks!

I can’t find it either and would love to see it. It may only be on private trackers where membership is required.

You may be talking about the same one we had been discussing earlier in the thread unless it was only created in the last year. The creator of this mkv had been doing a meticulous job until losing the drivers with his data and losing interest. I recall some of the earlier scenes were stunning, especially in the daylight (the old man who shows the eyeball he found was one of the better shots). I recall the second half of the film wasn’t completed properly and didn’t look that great unfortunately and even gave me a headache at some spots. I wish I knew more about video editing as it would be a fun project to try. I believe the last version used a Blu-ray for one eye and a foreign dvd source for the other eye.

Just to temper anyone’s expectations, I remember the MKV I had did have some amazing moments but it was mostly just daylight scenes early in the film. A lot of the main effects were just too difficult to reproduce for whatever reason or the creator just ran out of time or steam before losing all his work and never got it perfect. I truly think having seen this film in an actual theater with the dual projector set up that the potential value of this in a great working 3D version at home is amazing. So I am still shocked That Paramount or whomever owns the rights hasn’t mined this one yet but Jaws 3-D somehow got the treatment. I think the Mkv showed the potential of what this movie could be but is in no way even close to a definitive version of this film at home in proper 3-D. At least the one I saw.

Any chance of getting the F13 mkv? Been trying and trying to convert using DVDFAB but the 3D is horrible. Thanks in advance!

I had this at one point and lost it. I remember the file looked great where it worked but there were many areas where the 3D was still headache inducing. Still can’t believe no one has figured out how to make this properly yet or that Paramount doesn’t pay to have this released. To me this is the 3D holy grail if done properly.

First of all, let me say thank you for the time you have taken to create this. I was one of the fortunate few to get a copy of the MKV you put together last year and it is easily the best home version of this film I have ever seen. I have a 3D movie projector and 150 inch screen and watching this film with the 3-D the way it was intended is truly a dream.

I echo the sentiments that were written in the other posts in that when the 3-D works in your version, it really works amazingly. The unfortunate side effect of course is what you have already noted in that the scenes where it is 2-D there is sometimes pretty bad ghosting or blur and it sometimes takes away from the effect or makes the film difficult to watch. Not your fault of course.

What surprises me is that given that both eye prints are out there that others have not tried to make their own side-by-side version using the same two prints that you have. I wish I knew more about the technology to help you create this. My thoughts would be to take the version you have with the awesome 3-D effects and then also find a way to go 2d for the segments of time where the ghosting was occurring – in other words, just overlay the same for both eyes which I would hope would take away the ghosting. Without a full length version of the other eye that’s the best we can do.

To me, this is a holy Grail of a home 3-D viewing experience, and I can’t believe that Paramount or Warner Bros. have not done something to make this title happen. I would pay premium amounts of money to own it. Your version shows how amazing this can look.
