2001: A Space Odyssey Special edition with CGI
Time
in reply to GundarkHunter the DVD of blade runner i have is single sided that only has the directors cut on it (i'm in the UK though), but i couldn't find any original on amazon? or am i look in the wrong place. Also the recent film The Butterfly effect only has the directors cut on DVD here, does the region one have the original version as well?
Whilst looking i came across this
http://www.brmovie.com/BR_Special_Edition.htm
seems the directors cut is not the final version

But is my point about a directors cut/special edition replacing the original right?

Yeah Bossk i'm in the UK currently i just got the VHS of the originals, the last set before the special editions. I did have the special editions on VHS but seeing as there not complete, u can tell when the've changed something which is what i remember some guy saying on the making off, they didn't want u to notice every time something has been changed.

But of course u do notice cause most of us have seen the films so many times they commited to memory so any tampering even the slightest of things we notice. To be honest i don't think the originals will ever be released on DVD, its like asking Ridley Scott to release the inferior version of Blade Runner (the one with the Harisson Ford talk over). The whole point of a directors cut is that is replaces the original, u could argue these are special editions. But special editions usually add scenes or include improved special effects, but the whole han shoots first argument is pointless, Lucas has re-edited that scene for a purpose.

So essential these DVD's are special editions/Directors cuts they've replaced the originals.

Stanley Kubrick classic sci-fi film 2001 is to be complete redone much in the same way as George Lucas has done with his beloved Starwars trilogy.

All original footage in space using models on fires is to be replaced with CGI shots done by Industrial light and magic, the original orchestral score is to be remixed by notable artists including The Prodigy and the Anti Christ him self Marilyn Manson.

The original DVD copies of the film will be destroyed and anyone owning the original DVD, VHS or even laserdisc for that matter will be asked to return there discs or tapes to the nearest police headquarters where again they will be destroyed. This off course includes a complete recall of any store carrying the original film. So far a timeline for this procedure has not been confirmed but anyone attempting to keep there original versions will be hunted down by a CIA, MI6 operation code named “Journey Beyond the Stars” which was indeed the 1967 working title

Lucas to give the Oscars back to the Academy
Time

The original Star Wars (1977) was nominated for ten Oscars including Best Picture, and walked away with six of them, but Mr Lucas fooled us all, the original unmolested trilogy doesn’t exist its nothing but a myth. Which is why the oscars should be given back, and the academy to tighten security and make sure no more non existant films are given oscars ever again. which is why we should start a new petition right here regarding this.
