Interesting fact: The floating "holopane" controls aren't actually science fiction any more.

Well I'll be damned... floating 3D displays do exist!  Very cool.

Actually, I always thought that these weren't "displays" but more the traditional "Big Board" similar to the glass ones used in war rooms in the SAC "Strategic Air Command" or Pentagon type situations to manually track and update troop/tank/battleship/air support movements.

Mainly an exposition device in films, I'm not sure if they're actually used in real life.

Adywan,

I lost my father in late 08, he was a God to me.

I have yet to go a single day without thinking of him {tears are always close then, but so is a grin when I think of something cool that he did}.

Losing my Dad hurt more than almost anything I have ever experienced, But...I was right there when he died and I am glad I saw him off.

A mother who gave such a fine and talented son to this world is a great loss indeed and I hope you can make peace with this terrible loss at some point.

Thank You for all you have given us and know that the hurt does ease a little eventually.

  You built that?! :O

HA!

No It was at the very very depressing MGM Orlando Fla tour and all these wonderful old props and film history are left to die in vines and weeds and the bleaching Florida sun.

After Disney closed the animation studio there ALL the film production left, But they still run the tour and tell you all the neat stuff that used to be there as the Jackass driving the tram tears ass around the backlots so fast you can't hardly get any good shots...and I'm a Photographer!

There are other cool things wasting away out there Roy Scheiders' Blue Thunder is there as is The Solar powered van Rick Moranis drove around in Honey I Blew Up the Kid

I haven't posted much here although I do enjoy the hangout and chatter.

However I feel I must throw in on the "AT-AT/SnowSpeeder" crushing.

I believe Ady is very much correct in that Empire is damn near perfect,But this particular scene REALLY needs a do over .

You can CLEARLY tell the "giant-prop AT-AT foot" is a cleverly disguised  auto yard magnet dropped from a crane onto the prop Snowspeeder.

It SHOULD crush the speeder canopy and push further into the metal as the body of the speeder bends/sinks into the snow and the little tabs on the foot of the AT-AT push back against the "curling" metal as the foot falls and raises in one smooth motion, keeping the speeder's metal body from "sticking" to the footpad of such a heavy machine.

But what happens in the film just isn't convincing, It LOOKS like a "cleverly disguised auto yard magnet dropped from a crane onto a prop Snowspeeder" which doesn't react like metal but wood.

Also as shown in my description I feel it is precisely what those "tabs" were designed to do as the Quadra-ped tanks stomped across the battlefield stepping in wreckage.

Oh and just for the hellovit Here's the closest I ever got to a snowspeeder.

Great work so far Ady,

1080p is a bitch but will be sooooo worth it.

Thanks for the LG HDTV tip BTW I have an early CRTV HD made by Samsung and have NOT been happy overall.

Hopefully I'll have a new set when this one is ready.

Watching all these "in progress" clips and images has gotten me so excited I feel like that 10 year old kid I was in 1980 when Empire first came out, I saw it in a crappy little theatre in North Carolina and During the AT-AT scene the speaker over my head fell from the wall and dangled by its wire for the rest of the film!

I was so transfixed I refused to move from the seat till the film was over {despite my Sister's protests}

I have always thought Empire was the very cream of the Star Wars movies and stood as a testament to what George should have done with the Prequels.

Imagine how good Episode 3  would have been if directed by Gilluermo Del Toro or Peter Jackson or even a lesser known great new talent such as Brad Anderson.
