Seriously, what is your major malfunction, numbnuts?? This project was started by jimbotron235 because for 16 years there was NO high definition release of the theatrical cut. jimbotron235 did us all a HUGE favour by making this edit. What’s your freaking beef? I don’t see anyone “griping about not having a fan preservation to support anymore”. Are you just trolling? I’ll bet most of us would be happy to buy the 4K BD, we’ve been waiting long enough.

It is. The fine print on the link says “Original theatrical release version 4K restoration by the Saul Zaentz Co. and Academy Film Archive” and it’s 158 minutes (the Director’s Cut is 3 hours).

Finally, after 40 years, that is amazing! If only I were anywhere near the David Geffen Theater I would be there in a heartbeat. Sadly I’m 7500 miles away 😦

I have compiled a set of English subtitles for the theatrical cut that I would like to offer as part of the project. After working on this for many weeks, I believe these are the most complete and accurate subtitles available. I’ve made separate versions for UK and US spelling.

Only one bit of dialogue eludes me and it’s at the start of the movie. As Salieri’s valet reaches the top of the stairs, Salieri cries out “Sí, I killed you, Mozart” followed by two syllables that I can’t make out. I’ve checked the script, the play, and other subtitles (English and Italian) to no avail. Does anyone know what he says there?
