The theatrical colors of the Star Wars trilogy
Time

Resurrect this old thread because I don’t think there is a need to start a new one…

Well, “ages” ago I was trying to regrade the WOWOW recording; the color target was a set of screenshots taken from the theatrical print (please do not ask me which one, because I simply can’t remember!); I used RaiTre recording as color reference, with few settings more to go closer to the target.

Top WOWOW, bottom WOWOW regraded:

do note that Luke in the jail corridor should not be so magenta; probably it’s due to out-of-sync problems, and the color macthing should have picked up a magenta laser (probably?)

Superb work ^…^ 😃

I think you’ve already covered most (if not all) of the publicised scene changes to Rogue One, though I hope this may be of some small help:

Going to steal’em all, and paste on the first post! 😉

Oh well, better to add a “simple” link to your post here! 😄

Star Wars: SDTV & HDTV digital broadcast * database *
Time

JayArgonaut said:

There’s also the ITV broadcasts too, if you’re interested? Previously, they were cropped to fill 16:9 but in the past 2 years, at least, the films have been shown in their OAR and appear to have been sourced from the same masters as the Blu-ray and post-Disney purchase.

If you can provide more info, I’ll add them.

Also, just received a confimation that a broadcast of EPII was in 16:9 (with SFX cropped); it will be great to have it capped, along with EPII (if in 16:9 as well)!

Great addition from oojason here: https://originaltrilogy.com/post/id/1263912/action/topic#1263912

NOTE:
I tried very hard to “convert” the post in markdown to get it here (first manually, then using several online converter), but I wasn’t able to do it properly… until someone would “translate” it and send it via PM (ask for the HTML source!), I’m forced to show just a screenshot of the post I made on fanres…

Really sorry for the problem, hope to solve it soon!

I’m sure there are some HDTV recordings floating around of EPVII with the IMAX scene inside it; it will be nice to get file info of the untouched file.

EP II and III: as they were filmed with a digital camera, in 16:9, it “may” be possible that an open matte version of these could be available as an HDTV recording; if someone is aware of this, please post a comment here!

These movies were never released; I plan to discover the negatives, scan them with the best scanner at 8k, then project the result on a silver screen and point to it a VHS camera and record video, to get the feelings of the “ol’ good times”; of course, audio will be mono (either using the central channel of a 5.1 track, or a randomly chosen one out of a stereo track - original mono tracks will be surroundized and only central channel will be used).

First project will be released not before 2034, and subsequent titles each every six or seven years; they will be released on NTSC VHS cassettes recorded in ELP mode, that were bought new during the '90s and kept in a safe place since then; but, as they are in a limited number (6789 at present), you should hurry to get one!

I’ll keep this thread updated when the first project will be ready to be released, so keep an eye on it!

Special thanks to A. Pril Sfool for his out-of-season extraordinary help.
