Dominic Monaghan is an OOT fan!
Time
So, I was watching the Tonight Show with Jay Leno tonight, and Dominic Monaghan was on (in case there are some people who don't know who that is, he played Merry in LOTR and he's Charlie on Lost). Anyway, Jay asked if he was a Star Wars fan and if he had seen ROTS. Dominic said yes, he's seen it and has problems with it, but he didn't want to go into them on the show "because it would take about 4 hours to explain". And then he proceeded to say that the thing that bothers him most about the new Star Wars stuff is the fact that Lucas made Greedo shoot first. There was absolutely NO audience response (I guess there weren't many hardcore OT fans there), but Dominic braved through the silence and continued to explain why it is so horrible that Lucas changed it. Jay then kinda made fun of him, saying he really shouldn't talk about that on a date or something. I just thought it was cool that he brought that up on national TV, and on his first ever appearance on the Tonight Show. He's a geek! OriginalTrilogy.com should send him a Congratulations card or something

Episode 3 was disappointing on many levels...
Time
Well, here's how I see it. It's a fun movie and has some genuinely cool images, fight scenes, and plot points. But I mostly agree with every single nitpicked thing that has been touched on in this thread. I guess the difference is that these nitpicks don't ruin the experience for me. I've always been a pretty good "glass half full" type, so I can say that I truly liked this movie. No, I didn't LOVE it, but it met my expectations. I mean, what did you expect anyway, after seeing what Lucas threw at us for Episodes 1 and 2? I'm just glad Jar Jar kept his mouth shut, although I think something might have slipped out in the last scene he cameos in.

I could deal with a LOT less CGI though. The part at the end when they're on the old set from ANH gave me chills - soooooo much better than the CGI crapfest thrown at us through the rest of the movie.

Revenge of the Sith Soundtrack
Time
I'm going to have to agree with tlbauerle on the matter of the DVD. It's edited very strangely. It's like they didnt' really spend much time on it, just threw in a bunch of random clips that might in some way have to do with the title of the section. Although I did like the Leia section and how they incorporated a lot of conceptual artwork into it. Also, I cannot stand some of the dialogue they chose to put in - especially the absolute worst dialogue from ATOC. Cringe-worthy originally - even more so when taken out of the movie and just thrown onto the screen! But I guess I can't complain TOO much since it was free and the whole thing cost me a mere $11.98. The ROTS soundtrack is great... haven't listened all the way through quite yet, but John Williams hardly ever disappoints. I'm sure I will like it more after seeing ROTS and being able to visualize what's going on during the music.

How Many Times Have You Seen The Original Trilogy?
Time
Wow, there's no way for me to really be accurate with this! Counting the numerous times I've seen them on TV - well, here's what I come up with (including SE's):

ANH - 100-ish
ESB - 75-ish
ROTJ - 50-ish

I saw TPM 4 times in the theater, never rented or owned it. I saw AOTC twice in the theater, never rented or owned it.

I remember as a kid we didn't own the VHS copies, so that limits my numbers. I DID have the little read-along records for them all and listened to those COUNTLESS times - does that count? Wow - 200+ times for some of you, eh? That's a lot. I got really into LOTR over the past few years, so my numbers have been lagging since 2001.

Yes, I LOVE it. The airport extreme is bad-ass and so simple! And the superdrive. The whole thing is just so superfast, super quiet and super small - it's awesome. I can't seem to get anything done now though - I just wanna play with it all the time

Sorry to hi-jack the thread here, but as for the PC v. Mac debate, I can say that I have had both for a while now (a pretty powerful desktop PC and a Mac G4 desktop, which I basically just inherited and never used because I was scared to try something new), and since being forced to switch to a Mac at work recently, I am DEFINITELY preferring the Macs (which is why I chose the PowerBook - with Tiger of course). It's just so easy! Who knew that computing could be so... so... common-sense and user-friendly?? It's almost TOO easy to figure out - I'm constantly second-guessing the computer and saying to myself "this COULDN'T be all there is to it to it... could it?" And the answer is yes! That's all there is to it, and that's exactly how it should be. And the security threats are almost non-existent (at least for the time being). I'm definitely a convert... I'm born again, baby! Computers are exciting again!!

My favorite pro-Mac quote: "DOS Computers, manufactured by millions of companies, are by far
the most popular, with about 70 million machines in use wordwide.
Macintosh fans, on the other hand, may note that cockroaches are
far more numerous than humans, and that numbers alone do not denote
a higher life form." (from the New York Times, 1991)

Now, back on topic - someone fill me in about the bit-torrent and MySpleen downloads

Who has caved?
Time
PS - I *am* about to waste my hard-earned cash on an Apple PowerBook with superdrive in about 2 hours though - tell me more about this "my spleen" downloading and burning thing? - my VHS copies are about done for. Pardon my ignorance, but what's a bit torrent? (if you don't want to waste board space, email me at geeknumberone at hotmail - thanks!)

I have not caved yet. I refuse to buy the new editions. BUT I have borrowed them from a friend, not particularly for the movies themselves (I still religiously watch my old worn-out VHS copies), but for the extra DVD with the mega-long "making of" documentary. That was an enlightening couple of hours well-spent. Not everyone had the kindest things to say about Lucas, and I do commend him for allowing it to be included in the DVD set. Other than that, he can kiss my butt, I'm not giving him my hard-earned cash for the changed-up versions!

Info: Darth Vader exclusive from CIII
Time
Someone really nice brought me back one from CIII as a surprise! I was very happy to have it, what with the buzz it's been getting online. Now I see that the StarWarsShop is selling them, so maybe it's not as "exclusive" as I thought... oh well, I didn't have to pay for it at least! Plus it's kinda fun to have.... althought James Earl Jones' voice is reeeaaaalllly slow, like he's on his death bed or something.

New Season of Clone Wars
Time
I heard about that comic, but did not get it with mine - what store was that offered from?

As for the cartoon - I LOVE IT! If it weren't for people at work, I probably would never have watched it (I don't have cable). But they were so excited about it that I jus thad to check it out - watched one episode online and rushed out to buy the DVD ($14.95 at Target). I've already lent it to 2 of my friends and they loved it too. I do think it's pretty sad that a cartoon can do a better job than the first 2 live-action prequels, but hey, I'll take what I can get!

Hi - I'm a newbie.
Time
Ummmm - how do you edit on this board? *looks up* I have a trigger-happy "return" pinky.

Anyway, what I meant to say above is that I thank all of you for the welcomes, and I hope I don't inspire any ire and get banned! I'm sorry my post inspired such reminiscing

I probably won't be posting that much though, mostly lurking. I don't particulary like to say anything unless I think I can truly contribute to the discussion, which usually takes a lot of thinking on my part, and I just don't usually have the time required! But I enjoy reading everyone's comments, so keep up the good work And thanks again for the welcomes...

New Ending for ESB revealed.
Time
Bwahahahahaha - you know, when I was a young kid this Luke/Leia brother/sister plot line really messed me up - I had to go through years of therapy to get to the point where I am today - which may or may not be true Seriously though, I remember being very confused by this as a child - Mommy, why does Leia keep kissing her brother like that?

Hi - I'm a newbie.
Time
I'm not entirely certain which board I should introduce myself on, so I'll just do it here and it can be moved if need be. I surfed over to this site from another fan site a couple of weeks ago (I'm not even sure which one, I've been to so many in the past few weeks! - I'm in high SW gear!), and I am totally on board with OT preservation and the quest to slap Lucas into shape and get him to release the un-messed-around with OT on DVD!! Anway - hi there, and I'll keep looking around and jump into any interesting conversations that I see
