Go gargle with some balls.
I just wish the mods hadn't deleted the post where I called him an abortion.
A JSC and '04 test.
Yuck, look at all that grain, GOTTA de-grain that intensely to suit modern audience expectations and pull in the GREENBACKS.
Nah, I'm gonna really push for an AOTC kinda vibe when it comes to the colour...
I've decided to take 'Episode IV - A NEW HOPE' out of the title crawl and re-time the 'STAR WARS' title to match the trilogy.
I don't see it as a change, I see it as a need.
It's one of my samples for tomorrow.
I'm aiming for theatrical colour, so it's gonna look a little strange.
Monday - 9pm GMT.
The matching frames are synced, there's alot of SE shit I've had to work around, crop and zoom in and out of.
I can work in real-time for both editing and rendering using my rig.
I'm not using a consumer PC for this.
JSC has been synced to the '04 purely for test purposes.
althor1138 has stated it is impossible.
X0-1138 has stated it is possible.
The JSC raw dump is done and I've already synced it visually with the '04 DVD so I can test the additive experiment I'm working on.
Expect JSC direct samples tomorrow in MP4 and a raw avi sample for the nerds.
The picture is from the JSC.
For fu...
Of course it's gonna come up on Tineye.
I remember searching for the Abbey Road album cover on there and it threw up a cartoon reproduction of it.
Damn, laserdisc players are loud as fu... HEY! I never saw you there!
Welcome to Tatooine...
Getting the materials together is the hardest part, once I'm in amongst the video, I focus in very intensely and I always, ALWAYS go to reference material and never say... ok, how would I like to see it?
I intend for this to be a homage to the opening nights of each film and I'm gonna use reference frames from the technicolor print and most accurate laserdiscs to achieve never before seen colour accuracy.
As for the sound, well, if Hairy Hen has faithful '77, '80 and '83 reproductions of the stereo and surround mixes, then I'll go for those.
Hell, if Adywan wants to use my Star Wars HD master for his ANH:HD work then I'd be happy to send him a hard drive with the uncompressed files in 1080p. Just imagine an Adywan '77 revisited...
As for ongoing work, once I've got the transfers ready, I'll show off each capture and some work in progress material. Shouldn't take more than a month to get it all delivered and transferred.
The X0 is sitting patiently...
It won't.
My process will remove smearing, preserve detail and build on the more accurate transfers in terms of colour to fully restore the OUT.
I'm claiming it as that project hasn't been updated in five years.
Frame by frame, shot by shot, scene by scene integration of multiple elements using consistent colour palettes, film transfer analysis and detail building using half a dozen different versions of the same frame to build up a truly comprehensive image.
Don't think of it as just copy and pasting from different transfers, think of it more as an additive process which builds on the master frame from multiple elements, each re-colour timed and cleaned up even before I get to the integration process.

Welcome back X-0. Did you consider capping the special edition 1997 with the X-0 player or strictly the oot?
It'll be given a good look at as I wouldn't mind getting my hands on some specific elements such as...
*Shudder*
The '97 Jabba.
As for black magic, well it shall never be brought up again.
The original black magic project was either a hoax or a completely over-ambitious attempt at drawing detail from nothing but the screencap inspired me to start thinking about integrating half a dozen laserdisc transfers, the GOUT and blu-ray editions and utilising super-resolution technology (amongst other little miracle workers at my disposal) to complete what will become the best edition of the OUT out there.
Here's my timeline...
May 2012 - Star Wars
November 2012 - The Empire Strikes Back
May 2013 - Return Of The Jedi
I'm calling the project 'Legacy'.

This reminds me of the be all end all transfer that Alexbmw promised with his super LD player.
Yeah, I've got a blu-ray player as well :-p
Hey, I only whined a little bit. It's a big task!
As soon as I saw the black magic caps I thought two things immediately...
1 - Fake
2 - Multiple frame integration
3 - Bit of both
Black magic ain't a miracle that is forever lost, I'm telling you.
I believe combining non-SE'd frames with multiple frame transfers and alot more work after that will yield better results than black magic.
I'll say something right now that's gonna cause alot of bother...
The black magic shots were doctored and in the end, a relatively simple hoax.
My process will be the grail.
Essentially, one element of black magic was this...
http://www.photoacute.com/studio/
http://www.photoacute.com/studio/examples/mac_hdd/index.html
But obviously on a far larger scale i.e dealing with tens of thousands of frames.
Black magic took five or six transfers of the same frame and software was used to pick and choose the best elements of each frame and recompose them to create the best possible frame.
This is but one element, de-noising, image and detail preservation are still very much emerging technologies and I'm quite adept at restoration work.
I could even throw in the non-SE'd blu-ray frames just to give alittle more purchase to the frames available to work from.
It just shows how quickly I'm finding new information and promising leads in this project!
24 hours ago, I was all set to do a straight '93 transfer and dub in a stereo mix.
Then black magic came along and... well...
