STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

I got goosebumps watching this. Amazing work!

As a video editor myself I would do something with the deactivation of Vader's lightsaber as it clashes somewhat with the age of the special FX of the film. With the extreme closeup of the lightsabder hilt in the frame it may be needs more light interfering with the camera lense. As it stands it has the same light emission as in the wide-angle shots. Something is off...

Also, I second .Mac's comment about Luke's bent hand in the weather vane sequence. It would be a mammoth undertaking to digitally alter it, perhaps more than Adywan is able to invest, but It would look amazing. It would probably take me a few days to do it, assuming I was even successful.

Adywan is so talented. It's inspiring. I imagine a lot of editors are watching his work, a sole devotee of an amazing film, with equal admiration. I cannot wait for it's completion.

I've just finished Re-editing Episodes I-III, now what? (Released)

Thanks Ryan,

I did my own edit of ROTS which i haven't uploaded anywhere, so I know how difficult your edit must have been. I'm curious though where you got the footage of the first part of the Palpatine Anakin exchange, the low resolution part? Is this from the Bluray extras?

I may get around to uploading my own edit somewhere since I think it holds up to the classic ROTS edits and even does some things no one's tried to my knowledge. Your work was encouraging.

Cordially,

Mechanic

This is an incredible re-scoring and subtle edit of the Mace-Sidious duel. I know its un-related to Ady's TESB project, but it does show how much the music editing affects the scene:

Prognosis:

I loved the new clip! Yoda is full of life now, especially when he says, "You will become an agent of evil." I remember that the puppet's mouth movement was terribly unconvincing in the originals which "takes one out" of the fantasy and the suspension on the ordinary. The new mouth movement and expressions are subtle but powerful. Adywan is a great magician!

I do have a critique. When Ady enlarged Obi Wan so that he fits the size of Yoda in the scene there is a very noticeable loss of resolution. Two ways around this: return Obi Wan to original size and place some branches in front of him to show that he is some distance behind Yoda; or shrink Yoda a little so that he fits in with the original Obi Wan.

I loved the shot of Cloud City. The clouds really give dimension to the previously flat and obviously painted shot. The red sky car (I don't know what they are called) is a bit jarring though since it contrasts the beautiful sky scene with a very passionate red. I know some of the shots were temps and are still under construction. I hope my thoughts are somewhat useful.

Yeah that squealing MOUSE droid running away fast after Chewbacca growls at it was more sophisticated than the childish slapstick and toilet humour we saw in the PT and ROTJ.

In what way? Admitedly TPM was overkill, but I don't see why ROTJ gets such a bad rap: it balances the darkness of the Emperor scenes with the lighthearted forest battles with the Ewoks. Remember that in ANH the main characters don't take their mortal danger very seriously, and the Storm Troopers have never been able to shoot anything except Uncle Lars and Aunt Beru, even when our heros are right in front of them and not even moving (Luke after Obi Wan dies). To be honest I think TESB is the anomoly here. Anyway, these movies aren't meant to be overly serious but instead a timeless mythology with special effects and child-like humour.

Why couldn't it have been the Female Wampa that knocked Luke off the Tan-tan, while the Male Wampa is the one we see in the SE. I always liked the SE Wampa since we see it sloppily eating something, with fleshy bits hanging from its jaws. Some species of animlas work it out so that the Female hunts for the Male, or vice-versa.

Although it will be several years before Adywan gets down to editing ROTS I hope he decides to cut the single most outrageous line of dialog in the whole film, namely: "Only a Sith deals in Absolutes." This line, which is itself an absolute statement (philosophical absurdity), destorys the entire mythical "wisdom" of the Jedi and renders them into New Age relativists who believe there is no Truth as such, but only "truths". In other worlds, Lucas would have us believe our "truth" is just "true" for us, and that we are locked in our respective subjectivities; therefor there can be no universal and immutable Truth which the Jedi aspire to. In this case I would argue that the Sith are more correct philosophically than the Jedi, but if we remove this nonsense one can escape Lucas' postmodern relativism.

I know that ROTS isn’t going to be started for a few years, but I thought I’d weigh in now since I doubt I will be able to keep up with these projects in the future.

If a few years have elapsed between ANH and TESB why is the Emperor just now realizing that "We have a new enemy." This 'revelation' should have occurred immediately after the Death Star was turned into smoldering space dust. It would seem that the Emperor had an epiphany, or a vision, that permitted him to know the identity of that "rebel who destroyed the Death Star." In this there is some reason to accept the new dialog since it helps clarify the nature of this conversation and the nature of the Emperor's visions. I don't think the old dialog is any better than the new, and I don't quite understand the arguments that "it adds nothing to the story", etc, in fact it clarifies for the audience the nature of the relationship between the Emperor and Vader as well as establishing a link between the events of ANH and TESB. I do agree that Ian isn't giving us a stellar performance, and has slinked back to the lazy dialog of the ROTS. I love the visual corrections Adywan has done on the overexposed face of the Emperor from the 2004 DVDs, but I liked the new dialog and as far as storytelling goes it does accomplish subtle plot points which are absent in the old dialog. The fact that Vader seems to be hiding his search for Skywalker from the Emperor, "How is that possible?" and the Emperor's seeming unaware, "Search your feelings." I doubt these few lines of argument will assuage those who believe TESB is by and large without fault, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to throw in my two cents.

Hhahahahahahahah!!!!!

That tape deck is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time! Its interesting that the Star Wars films are so cheap once you get inside the cockpits, but they spent so much time on the outside effect shots. I can just imagine a couple of smoked out hippies waiting until the eleventh hour to put the cockpits together for shooting and taking apart someones dashboard to build it. Man, Star Wars is a trip...

You've got to be kidding! The mynocks look terrible, the special effect is barely accomplished, and one gets the sense that someone is off-set with a fishing rod danging some prosthetic wings around on a string. There isn't even the pretense of "flight" on the part of the mynocks. I understand TESB is the sacred cow of the Star Wars saga, but that doesn't make it as perfect as all these gushers claim. Anyway, thats my two cents.
