Okay, what did we LIKE about the Special Editions?
Time
I'll be honest I like just about everything added and enhanced in the SE. I think the small additions(robot smack down) are the kind
of things Lucas would have put in the movie the first time given the technology, money and time. These do not bother me because they
don't change any of the plot points or character's traits, hence they are trivial in the grand scheme of the trilogy. However I do take
issue with the Han & Greedo scene. Aside from the fact that it looks awful when Han 'moves' his head to miss the blaster shot I hate
what it does to change his character. After leaving the Imperial Academy and becoming a smuggler Han became a man who did
whatever he needed to get by. From gambling in order to aquire a ship(the Falcon in a Sabaac game) to shooting a bounty hunter about
to take him away to almost certain execution at the hands of Jabba, Han is a survivor first and foremost. Even in our country in present day
if someone threatens you with a firearm and you respond with force and kill them it is considered self defense, even if they never fired their
weapon. In other words sometimes firing first is sometimes justified, so I have never understood Lucas's discomfort with this scene. Next
thing you know there will be a 'Special Edition of Raiders of the Lost Ark' and Indy won't shoot the swordsman.
