a rumor from thedigitalbits.com...
Time
This news basically confirms something I've been thinking about, and that is that this new box set was never intended to be the "holy grail" of Star Wars DVDs. No new deleted scenes, no new documentaries, no remastered OOT - just the same shit repackaged again, with maybe a few more minor (and forgettable) extras, and maybe a CGI Yoda in TPM. I'm still surprised, though, that they didn't sling this box set out anyway. It just goes to show how pointless and poorly timed the 2006 release was.

A Question About Projection Screen TV's.
Time
Well, on some tvs, depending on the type and its age, (especially including rear-projection tvs) there is a posibility of burn-in. However, I'm not sure if the newer game systems have any function that can prevent this. The Xbox 360 will go into screen-saver mode after a few minutes of inactivity, but I still see a pontential for burn-in. Either way there doesn't seem to be any difference between a PS2 and next-generation systems when it comes to screwing up tvs. So your friend is partially right...or partially full of shit.

Well, when I say it was amateurish, I'm not necessarily talking about production values. I'm talking about camera angles, lenses, editing, ect all seemed like he was filming it for tv, or was just relying on what he learned from filming for tv while making the movie. It just wasn't very cinematic.

What do you think of the <strong>Prequel Trilogy</strong>? a general discussion thread
Time
Sure there's some of it in the OT, but a tiny fraction compared to the PT. There's a difference between conveying useful information and just doing it for the sake of doing it. The OT had the right balance, and rarely did it seem forced. Have you even seen TPM? HALF the dialogue is someone explaining what is happening onscreen. I don't think it's a deliberate plot device. It's called Lucas trying desperately to fill in holes in his otherwise completely droll and inept script.

Without seeing how the Republic becomes the Empire is really just showing one side of the coin, that dictatorship is bad. If you don't show how democracy can rot from within and become a dictatorship "with thunderous applause" it makes things more black and white that life really is.

It's nice, but it's very 2 dimensional. I prefer the depth and insight to be found by showing both the yin and the yang to the situation.

See, I find this idea really stupid for a few reasons.

A) The history of the star wars universe and the Republic itself have been around for 1000s of years. The empire was now around for 20-some odd years. Rather just a tiny blip on the radar.

B) Far too much time was wasted on the republic turning into the empire. Yes, it adds a new element into the mix, but it eats up valuable time that could have been used for far more crucial situations. Yeah, Anakin and Padme fall in love in little over an hour, and then lets spend 30 seconds on Anakin turning into Vader, which is (or should have been) the whole point of the fuckin PT, but instead we need to waste countless minutes on Palpatine fooling various cgi senators.

C) Some things are better being left a mystery. That's one of the my major complaints. Not every single thing needs to be explained. In the OT, something was just there - take it or leave it. Instead everytime someone speaks in the PT, they are explaining what is going on.

"Artoo - what is it? You have a message from Obi-Wan?"

"Buzzdroids"!

"Anakin - you have to take out such and such"

"Those are the forward stabalizers!"

&quot;..secret to the future is quantity,&quot; Lucas said
Time
Lucas wasn't insulting you by making his own movies better in his mind. To him he was giving his own movies the respect and care he felt they deserved, and he spent more time and money doing that than anyone else has so far for their own movies.

I highlighted a few words for you. While his intentions may have been noble, the result was disastrous and to equate it with him using care and respect is absurd. By this logic, Michael Jackson was just giving his appearance care and respect over the years, and should be appreciated for it, as should anyone else who partakes in self-mutilation. In fact, maybe I'll give my girlfriend the care and respect she deserves by punching her in the nose.

See, doesn't work that way buddy.

As for the article, I quit paying attention to Lucas a long time ago. Not only has he lost any perspective or insight he might have once had, but usually after he tries to explain some novel idea or brilliant premise he's thought of, it turns out to be something droll and inane.

help opening RAR files
Time
Well I have WinRAR, but it was a trial version and has expired. Will it still work? The RAR files are video files, but I don't know what player to use. So say I download the files again, do I...

a) drag them into WinRAR?

b) right click on the RAR file? If so, what do I choose?

c) where am I extracting them to?

what about the hjsplit thing? The guy seemed to indicate it was necessary.

help opening RAR files
Time
I was just wondering if someone could give me some general help (I'm a dummy suffice to say). I'm trying to open some RAR files, but when I click on them, it says something like windows doesn't recognize the file type. I know I need some sort of archiver, so I downloaded wrar361.exe - I also have "hjsplit" which I apparently need. Basically if someone could give a walkthrough of what to do that would be incredibly nice.
