I am sure some of us here can get together and form our own team to make our own Blu-ray versions of these movies,Hell I have Blu-ray authoring software and ALL the 1080p HD versions of all films,English & German,I just don't have a Blu-ray burner to test them out,but sure would like to try,but I would keep them to a BD25 not an overblown BD50.

Not a bad idea at all.  I have a Blu-ray burner and a supply of BD25s (and BD50s :(!!).  Very happy to help if I can...

Downloaded and previewed the final version. Nice of you to add the color correction comparison feature, and foreign language options.

I still need to boost the center channel 4db in order to get dialog balanced with the rest of the mix. And I still prefer the DTS 5.1 to the Dolby 6.1 ES.

Noticed one peculiar thing about the main menu: I'm able to make menu selections on my HTPC with a mouse pointer, but with a stand alone player (my PS3 to be precise), it is not possible to see any selection marker or highlight when using the up/down/right/left arrow key, making it impossible to tell which option is going to be selected.

But aside from these minor critiques, it's quality work. You are a very talented person.

Highly recommended.

Thanks again.

I second this post.  I have just downloaded and burnt to a BD50 and have played it on both my HTPC and now my PS3.  I too can't seem to navigate the menu options on the PS3 but that aside I am very impressed with this release.

Picture quality is simply stunning and I have no issues with the audio centre channel, although I do tweak mine up a fraction anyway for all movies....my poor tired old ears aint what they used to be.

Huge thanks to Wookie Groomer for all his time and effort on this - it's perfect in my opinion.  Can't wait for the rest of the set :)

Well I have downloaded this and extracted the rars.  As I'm not sure how to mount/play a BD iso, I've ordered a couple of BD50 discs that I should get tomorrow so will burn it as soon as I get in from work :¬)

But, I have to say that I LOVE the BD case art that Wookie Groomer has supplied with this and have already printed it out and put it in an empty blu ray case that I have sitting here, ready and waiting!!

Personally speaking, I like the look of the samples that Adywan posted further back in this thread and am really looking forward to burning and watching this tomorrow night.

Huge thanks to Wookie Groomer once again for all his hard work on this.  I really, really hope that he continues with this project and completes all six movies.....or my one ESB is going to look pretty loney on my blu-ray shelf....!!!

Wow - I hadn't fully appreciated that you were planning multiple audio; menus & additional features!! When you said it would be 'ultimate' you really meant it, didn't you!!!

I completely understand your wish to be discrete regarding the detail of the project and your 'something' on disk two...better to work quietly away on that, I'd have thought.

As much as I and I suspect others here are dying to see these blu-ray quality releases in all their glory as soon as possible, quality takes time and dedication. I guess that you have to strike a balance between having a release and maximising the features that you want to include. It's easy for me to say don't compromise and in an ideal world that would be the overriding consideration, but as you rightly say, it could possibly take you forever. Perhaps a second disk subsequent to the release of the actual movies might strike the right balance....and possibly maintain your sanity?!!

In any event, there is no doubt in my mind that it will be worth waiting for - your 12gb releases set the standard for Star Wars in HD....this will certainly surpass them.

As much as I'm as keen as everyone to see the finished article, I know that I and everybody here truely appreciates your time and effort, so take your time....

But just to ask...when you say 'to what extent you will work on the bluray end of it', do you mean that you will simple upload a raw file to the groups and leave it to the end user to make a bluray file structure and burn to bluray if this is what they want...??

No news yet. It seems there is a plauge of issues for those that wish to work on the trilogy in some form or another. I dumped almost $1000 into new audio/video assets, hardware upgrades and other misc things to create the ultimate edition of Empire on Bluray and wouldn't you know it, my system board fried just as I installed my last upgrade of a quad core processor that I spent my last dollar on. I have run into one barrier after another and just at this moment got the new system up and running again. Now with terrabytes and terrabytes of hard drives space, Quad core processor and 8gigs memory I hope to finally get this going again. I am hoping to make this a 2 disk set when all is complete but with all the technical issues I am running into I may have to make some compromises here and there. Right now I scrapped a months worth of work because I felt it just wasn't perfect enough.

Thanks for the update - very much appreciated.  It seems to be a minefield working on the movies in HD and I for one hugely appreciate your efforts; not only in terms of the vast amount of time that you must dedicate to this project but also the cost.  I've also recently upgraded my system to a quad core with 8gig of ram, a BD burner and a couple of terrabytes too so I know that it's a costly process too.  I guess that patience and tenacity is the key for you and your attention detail is well known but the end result will certainly justify the means.  I can't wait but will be patient and look forward to seeing it when complete.

Cheers.

Well in the absence of any confirmation or otherwise I'll stick my neck out and say that I suspect these aren't WG's work that I came accross on Usenet the other night.  They're 18gb sitting in a.b.hdtv.repost and I've burnt ANH and ROTJ o blu-ray discs and they play and look nice.  There is an audio problem on ESB whereby the native .ts file is recongised and will play using VLC on my HTPC, TSMuxer finds an error with the audio and leaves this out of it's muxing.

Any news Mr Groomer...? :-)

Hi Wookie Groomer.

I was just wondering if you've uploaded any of your new HD versions to Usenet?  Last night I came accross some 18gb HD encodes with UK text in the opening crawl, etc.  Previously I've only ever seen the German text on files of this size so I grabbed ANH last night.  Seeing the rars prefixed with "I brake for Wookies" made me smile and wonder if they're yours?  I couldn't find an .nfo so wasn't sure.

Anyway, it's a .ts so I slapped it through TSMuxer to create a blu-ray and burnt it to a blu-ray disc this morning.  Watched a few minutes on both my PS3 and a couple of outher blu-ray players and it looks very nice indeed.

So, I'm hopeful that it's yours?  If it is; what I've seen looks very good and will watch in full tonight.  I'm grabbing ESB and ROTJ this morning....

Cheers,

I'm working on new mega bitrate color adjusted BluRays of the saga. I'm trying to kick them up to notches unknown as far as quality and presentation so stay tuned... Start saving your pennies for BD-50 disks!

Now that is fantastic news Wookie Groomer, sir :¬)  I treated myself to a blu-ray burner just last week.....can't wait...!!!

Any news on the 14gb higher bitrate mkv versions? I don't really have a use for AVCHD releases and would rather a nice big mkv file for my htpc. The sample posted a couple pages back is awesome!

Will it be for both ANH and ESB:R? When can we expect them Adywan?

 Hi Adywan,

I was wondering about this too the other day.  I know you did have problems with your upload limits imposed by your ISP, which were delaying this.

Yeah, I don't really know about such things... Sorry. I got my ANH and ESB from Wideload, so maybe he could answer some specifics.

Sadly my technical knowledge is not that great.  I've merely been helping some folks out who are unable to access Usenet or torrents.

I'm still trying to self-teach video encoding and editing for my own projects.  What I can tell you is that Ady's encodes play on any region PS3.  Mine is UK and I've replaced the PS3's internal HDD with a 500GB drive and have physically copied the movie files (and many others) direct to the PS3 HDD....more because I'm lazy than for any other reason : )

Anyone have suggestions on how to fix the audio on the AVCHDs of Ep 1 and 2?  I thought if there may be a way to unmux the M2TS file then mux it back with the ac3 audio from the dvds, but I predict having sync issues.  Also this process is only good if it and the subsequent re-authoring back into an AVCHD can be done without re-encoding the video.  PLEASE anyone got any ideas for this?  This has become the ultimate tease for me, I'm foaming at the mouth to watch these, but this pretty much kills the whole saga for me.

I have tried hooking up my HTPC to my sund system to check the audio on Eps 1 and 2 on WG's encodes but since I last used the PC, I have bought a new receiver and cannot get anything other than 2.1 out of my PC on anything!  So, working on the assumption that WG's work has the full 5.1 in Eps 1 and 2 (and I don't see any reason why it would not as his quality is superb), I am going to see about creating AVCHDs of Eps 1 and 2 from the WG encodes.

My problem is that whilst I have a perfectly good PC to do the work (3.2 quad, 8gig ram) I don't actually know HOW to do it!!  So there's some research for me to do which will take a while (PMs of advice most welcome).  I will drop a post on the AVCHD forums realting to these encodes to see if anyone else has noticed the audio 'blip'.

Cheers,

I've just checked the release notes from AVCHD Presents and they credit the WG releases so you're absolutely right about the source material.

My WG transfers are siting on my redundant HTPC (redudant since my PS3 took over my media stuff) but I was due to be dusting it off and hooking it up to my suround sound system so if nobody else confirms, I'll see if the audio track is absent in Eps 1 and 2.

That aside, it would be fantastic if Eps 1 and 2 could be re-encoded with the audio fixed in AVCHD but I agree, it's a lot to ask.

You are correct regarding the missing rear audio channel on episodes 1 and 2 of the PS3AVCHD Presents releases and I agree, it is an irritation. But, I don't believe that the proper 12GB Wookie Groomer transfers have this fault - I don't recall it last time I watched them. Are you certain that PS3AVCHD used Wookie's transfers as their source material? If you look at Adywan's AVCHD thread, he's working on HD transfers in this format too but he's not using Wookie's work as source.
