Why the fans complain...

Regarding the Original Trilogy, I think most people would accept the changes without complaint if all the flaws were fixed. Such a large amount of time an expense has been put into these new releases that it doesn't really make sense to have the small problems remain. If you are going to redo things like Mos Eisley or the X-Wings, why not fix the lightsaber in the Falcon? If you are going to add dialogue, why not adjust the scene where Vader voicelessly motions to Tarkin? If you are going to put Jabba in, do it right. If you are going to remix the sound, do it well. If you are going to fix the tractor beam display, change the numbers on the countdown to Yavin display. If you fix the reverse image at the end of Empire, fix the reverse images in the Yavin control room with Threepio. If you are going to improve the lightsabers, at least make them look the same from shot to shot. If you want to add the Emprorer, make him look like the Emporer.

Above all we want these films to fit together...all six of them. Change what you will, but be consistent...it won't take that much more.

He waited too long between trilogies and its his own fault! You do not mess with three classic that were filled with heart and magic just to bring them down to the mediocre level of the PT. Should we fuck with Gone with the wind? North By Northwest? The Exorcist? just because we can? These films are what they are...a part of movie history...ad they should be left untouched.

With respect to the Prequel Trilogy, perhaps George hasn't lost his vision. Both trilogies make fun of body noises, (burping in the 80's is what farting is today). Directorally speaking, George is the same director he was in Star Wars, THX, and AG. He isn't so revolutionary becaue everyone has copied his style that HIS style isn't original or new anymore. Its almost thirty years since the revolution. The revolutionaries are normal now. That IS the standard. His vision is reality, and serves to inspire the new generation of filmmakers such as Larry and Andy and PJ. Don't you think?

I think I speak for all the fans when I say we desire consistency.

when did you see SW first...
Time
I was 12 years old in May of 1977, my dad, cousin and I waited in line for 6 hrs to see a movie we knew nothing about..I can remember eating KFC in line while we waited...

I will never forget that Intro.....made the hair stand up on the back of my neck! Everyone was cheering...it was awesome. Two 12 year olds came out of that theater with their mouths hanging wide open...we just could not believed what we had seen. That Dolby Stero was rocking....

I prefered the Empire Strikes Back...and had wonderful memories of opeaning day in 1980 and in some ways it was better, but still I dont think I will ever have that same feeling that I had with the first one....it was truly amazing.

Besides, I agree that the OT is better than the PT. But the PT is much better than you're giving it credit for.

No not really...they started out ok with TPM but that last piece of shit called Attack of the Clones should not even be considered a Star Wars movie.....300 million box office with just about every critic giving it no more than 2 stars....bad acting, bad casting, terrible story....a love story with NO CHEMISTRY between the two...too much information for the length of the film.

And I fear Episode III is going to go the same way....if III is at least as good as or better than TPM then it might have a chance to save this trilogy...but if it is on par with Attack then you might as well flush this whole PT down the toilet...along with the OT that he has fucked up just to fit the PT!

I'm sorry you saw half a completed film and fell in love with it.
His contempt for his audience shines through like a beacon. So we were stupid to like his movie in the first place?? You'd think the guy would have at least a hint of respect for the big phenomenon of 1977: the huge lines, the cover stories in all the magazines, everyone seeing the movie over and over, the way his movie defined all pop culture for a year or more...

It's history, man. You're trying to erase history. Shades of Big Brother: Just change your name from George Lucas to George Orwell and be done with it...

Yep, its time to burn it all!!!!

I'm Ashamed To Admit It...But The New Box Set (2004 OT DVD SE release)
Time
I watched this at a friends house last night...all 4 DVD's. I must say that I am not impressed one bit. I would never buy this set as I am a purist and will not support this latest abomination of these films, but I had to see what all the fuss was. This was supposed to be the "Holy Grail" of DVD's and it does not even come close to being one of the best. Hell, a better job was done by WB on North by Northwest a 1959 film. I watched this on a 65" HD T.V. with a wonderful sound system. We could not help notice just how dark the film is and how terrrible the Light Sabers looked. The extras were just "ok", and could have been alot better for films that are as I say again supposed to be the 'Holy Grail!" Did they look clean? Yes Better than they ever have? Yes but pale in comparison to quite alot of other DVD's (IMHO)

I wont even go into some of the lousy changes or just an ok soundtrack. A cheap box? What, they could not even put them in a nice strudy one like Paramount did with Indy?

Oh well, here is to hoping that GL will wake up someday and see what he did to these films...he has cut at them more than Jacko has cut at his face and nose. And thats about what these films look like...the more he chages them the worse they get!

"Well Timmy, I'm sorry you fell in love with Spot, but I think I have a better dog so we're going to shoot yours."

I wonder why he did not tell us they were half completed between 1977 and 1995....the reason. They weren't until he decided to make these prequels...man this guy just makes up shit as he goes along...I remember back in 78 when he said that there were 9 chapters to his story and the only two characters that were in all 9 were the two driods and it was being told from their eyes...now he says he never said there were nine chapters..

hmm....wonder why Greedo did not shoot first in 77'....guess he did not have the technology...

I agree, he was flying by the seat of his pants...still is. He has said so much stuff back in the day that he now says is not ture. I remember in Bantha Tracks back in the early 80's he said that there were nine chapters to the story and the only two characters that were in all of them were the droids....of course now he claims he never said such stuff about nine chapters.....

My thoughts on Original - vs- SE

Hello all,
I am a new poster, but have been a lurker for a few weeks now. I have been run off just about every SW fourm I can think of....it seems that my "old ass" and my hard line attitude on the "Original Trilogy" is not welcome on most Star Wars boards. I am not sure how I will be received here, but some things I would like to get off my chest.......

1. Did George Lucas Rape my Childhood?

Yes, what he did to these films is an abomantion. He might as well have thrown a 12 year old boy on the hood of his car and went to town...

2. Han/Greedo Scene

By changing that scene you change the whole character of Han Solo! You turn him from the rotten scoundrel/ Pirate that he was into someone that has a conscious. After that scene is over, we are left with the thought that he can be a cold blooded killer when he needs to be.

3. The Movies are His!

No, I do not agree. Yes he created them, but once they went out into the public then they became apart of film history. I do not see many artists paintings once they go to a museum get sent back to the artist because they should have done this or that...if he wanted to fiddle with them, he should have kept them at home.

4. Updating Special Effects

I am aginst it! Movies are like pieces of time, and Star Wars belongs in the 1970's. The effects were way ahead of their time in 1977,80 and 83. But they belong in the time that they were made. Is George going to update the effects again in say 2020 when the effects from 2004 have long since been outdated? Should we go back and redo the shark in "Jaws" just because we can?

5. You have the Original Trilogy on every format except DVD, get over it!

Why should we be punished and not be able to see the Original Trilogy in the latest medium with the best quality?

6. Go watch it on tape or Laser if you like the originals so much...see it how it was back then with grain etc...

Guess what, just because it looked bad in those older formats it did not look like that back in 1977, 80 and 83 in the theater. So I want it how it looked in the theater with the best possible cleanup and transfer (but kept original).

7."This is how I wanted to make them" but couldn't excuse.

Total horse shit...yeah maybe there were some things he wanted to do like the Jabba scene but he has used this old excuse for everyting now and it has become his crutch...Why not have changed the Han scene in 1977? Certainly he could have done that.....so what that he can make the effect look better now...thats what "NEW" movies are for...this is he license to tinker. He will turn these into the prequels...lots of effects and no heart or magic.

8.Prequels

I think it is just sad how he is trying to tie all this together by butchering the OT....look its his own fault for waiting 15 years between making these trilogies. I could care less how he tries to tie them together, just as long as he does not change anything in the originals to do it.

9.Shafting Others

He is totally spitting on the people that made the originals possible including the directors that he hired for ESB and ROTJ. I wonder if Marquand is rolling around in his grave? What about all the people who designed the models, makeup, fx shots..everything? What about the original actors like Sebastian Shaw? What they are just wiped from history?

10.Get a Life!

Yep these are just movies, and in the grand scheme of life not the highest on the importance scale..but they meant something to a 12 year old in 1977....they mean something to the history of film. And we deserve better than having a revisionsist history cramed down out throats. Maybe I am getting old and crotchty...I know that nobody can appreciate these films the same way that those of us did that actually saw them in the theater as they were released...

If only he would give ALL of his fans a choice as to which versions they will watch...

Would you like a little Cheese with your whine?

Yes I love chesse, thank you.
