Here's my stance
Time
For the Record I have to say I love the LotR trilogy. To me t's a great example of good modern cinema. RotK, I had a few problems with, but overall, with the strength of the first two supporting it, similar to Star wars and ESB supporting the story of RotJ, it works as a fitting conclusion to the whole story. As you've probably guessed, my main problem with rotK was the multiple endings. Even in the theater people were getting up thinking it was over and then had to sit back down since it wasn't, LOL.

So they erased a car from the first movie? aww, I'd have liked to have seen it since I enjoy finding bloopers in movies. But I never noticed it anyway though...

Well to my point, I guess. I loved what i saw in the theater and here I have it on dvd. Yeah a car is gone that I never knew existed in the first place so I guess it's not a huge change.

There's real honest care taken in crafting them. you can just tell... And after seeing Lucas' toy commercials he's released in theaters lately, I've realized he doesn't care, not like that director behind lotr did. That's why I wished someone who was truly passionate about star wars was allowed to direct at least one of the toy commercials so it'd seem more like a real movie, not a poorly thrown together mess. What's more, later it's 'fixed' for dvd with added bits. You might as well not buy any of the star wars dvds with how lucas constantly tinkers with all the films as his original vision changes every year just in time for the holidays. Imagine if every studio head adopted this idea and kept releasing a new edition of their film with added junk every year. Why not go do some new movies?

You care? Ha ha ha ha ha. Then why not sign up years ago like I did?

Stop lying. You just came here to fuck with people who actually care about Star Wars and aren't Lucas sycophants like you. But so be it. we all have the right to post whatever we want under the TOS, don't we... sigh...

To all you lurkers out there, search for this guy on google to know what he's all about if you don't know already. I've known him since 1999 and it's always the same stuff from him, and he's still at it to this day. It's been 7 years and he's still discussing the brilliance of jar jar being hit in the balls twice in tpm... I'm tempted to say he's got no life at all, well I guess I sorta did. I just find it strange that I, someone who actually has no life, spend less time on shit like this than this guy. 7 years dedicated to kissing lucas ass. Think about it.

Sorry to interject, I'm gonna try and be civil to both of you. Obviously you guys are both pretty passionate about your beliefs in Star Wars. I don't mean to come to one persons' aid over the other but from every post I've seen of Go-Mer's I've never once thought of him as a "Troll". What do you define as a troll? Would it be because he has differing views from yours? Is it because he feels that George shouldn't release a better version of the OOT on DVD? Has he acted arrogantly? Or is it simply because he sees merit with the Prequels and voices his opinion so? I've seen him post here, give his beliefs but when told he was coming on too strong backed off and realized that "hey, perhaps I'll cool it abit". The guy obviously understands when he's pushing buttons.....so I say again, is he so frowned upon because he offers an alternative point of view? I thought among other things, in the appropriate threads wouldn't enlightened conversations like that be welcomed? I can't say that I've seen everything Go-Mer has posted and maybe he has acted inappropriately but from what I've seen this isn't the case.

The reason I am defending him here is because basically nobody else will. I mean it does send off some red flags with the amount of people that are pissed off at him that could mean that he comes off a little arrogant, but surely defending or even offering alternative responses to a thread topic should not result in such chastisation should it? I know I'm not a regular here, I've been coming for the last little while to read up on discussions and I've noticed one thing that has happened, that has changed since I came. When I came here I told them which Star Wars I preferred and I was still welcomed regardless. Now I see personal attacks thrown Go-Mer's way when he hasn't really warranted such behaviour. On the flipside though maybe I haven't seen you in full anti-OOT swing and maybe you should cool it Go-Mer. I don't know for sure. I understand that we're all pretty passionate and we all just rub each other the wrong way sometimes. No need to bring it down a level to petty attacks though.

Nope, it's trolling. He's done it for years and just wants to fuck with us here it seems. I'd go back to some old boards and find posts from 1999+ and show you the boards he's been doing this on but I really just don't give a shit enough to do that.

Why else sign up at a board meant for complaints addressed to the man he worships? Seems pretty obvious to me...

I haven't seen Dr. Strangelove but my brother says it's highly overrated. Kubrick has been hit and miss with me, I like Clockwork Orange and The Shining but I hate 2001: A Space Oddessy well....since those are the only movies of his I've seen I guess I shouldn't really comment.

I know I'm really late for this discussion also, but correct me if this has already been stated. Wasn't the use of Midiclorians a way of determining how well a Jedi could use the force? I have to ask, how would they have determined how one was powerful in the force without an example? Would they have just "known"? Would it have been an instinctual thing? Midiclorians was one of those things I never really bothered about and never knew it was such a problem till I heard people complaining about it on the net, however even if not completely accurate wouldn't that be a better way to get an approximation of ones abilities with the Force? I mean "feeling" one is powerful is one thing, but it still doesn't let you KNOW how powerful they are. That to me doesn't really take away from the mystism of the Jedi Knights.

It makes jedi potential quantifiable. It's basically going against everything yoda said in ESB "size matter not"

why can't people fuoking see this?

Typical Gomer PT-gush response in 3... 2... 1...

Derr Imma gonna complain about complaints, pa! Derr

Seriously though, go die of a broken heart. People don't like seeing what they love being treated poorly and want the best for it. Why is this a problem?

Oh crap, I just realized I'm feeding a troll. I really need to learn to just click backspace on crap like this.

The Merits of the Prequel Trilogy and the "Saga"
Time
I'm putting my foot down. The merits are that it had some cool fx. Oh don't even get me started on how well animated that fart scene was in TPM. Woo boy, that was amazig

but no they sucked sucked sucked. An entire main character was even so bad he had to be written out almost completely by the time it was over. That's how it is. No amount of focus will change that pure fact.

To fans, movies are everything, aren't they... my advice...Just watch the pt for the pretty explosions and lightsabers if that's all star wars is to you. At least that's just what I think it's good for besides the JW music. The story is shite.

And... I believe that it's horrible that so many just don't care about the standard the ot set back in the day. That was something phenominal as we know... Yet I see some gladly just sit by and watch lucas piss all over them with his half assed stories he had... what.. lets see... 16 fucking YEARS to figure out, (sorry for cursing but come on, it was nearly two decades he had to come up with something really great, and we got jar jar binks, Annie, Midichlorians, NOOOOOOOO, and goodbye chewbacca.) but STILL couldn't craft the films as a cohesive whole that it damn well should have been. People discuss the Pt as if it should be looked upon as if someone without a billion dollars and decades of experience in the film industry was behind them; that all the ameteuristic mistakes and terrible writing and directing were just common faults of a novice director and should be overlooked because your focus determines your reality. No, the reality is that Lucas half assed it, delivered poorly done films full of his cgi experiments, ruined continuity with the originals, just funked up and got away with it for the most part... How horrible... just horrible to watch something you love be treated so recklessly and yet... unbelievably some who claim to love the OT praise it... eh so be it... I seriously stopped carring a long time ago about all the online star wars discussions at tfn and such. There comes a point when it ceases being about the films and one's perception of them, but more a shouting match or 'who can write the most words' contest. I don't absolve myself from that sort of thing from time to time but it's typical isn't it nowadays...

Anyway, yeah mate, just movies of course. But something inside me says to a fan they're not just movies, they're HISTORY in the making. And considering how rich and powerful lucas was/is, doing three great movies or at least two great ones, one mediocre or average one, would have been just viewed as me as what's to be expected from a man in his position. How the hell did he make star wars when he was this nobody director, then when he's really got the power and control he's wanted, he delivers below his established standards and even goes back and shits on his earlier work while he's at it. It boggles the balls. Whatever, george.

Dammit, the emperor in RotJ is perhaps one of the best captured villain performances on film, and it is (HELL NO) not because he was cheesy... pfft. It's the opposite. He was to me anyway more badass and super powerful than any villain i've ever seen before, even vader (gasp, shock) just like Yoda warned Luke he was and remember how vader says "the emperor is not as forgiving... etc bla bla" That's really what makes him so cool. He's like the original jabba before that blob of cgi shit was put in the special-ed edition, just this unseen important character who's the reason for whatever trouble our the heros are in. So I expected someone truly evil and twisted, and yep, that's what we got. He could have been a stupidly bumbling bafoon like in Rots after Sam Jackson dies, but he wasn't. He calmly sits there and pulls the strings, yes, like the typical movie villain, but what really was special about Ian's original emperor was that he added his own attitude and vocal flourishes to the performance that made it iconic to me. That happy go lucky bastard clown in the PT was a joke. I liked him better as the slimey evil manipulator during that opera scene. Ian was brilliant, 100% emperor palpatine right there, but lucas had to fuck it up later. Good grief...

Anyway, back on topic. I'll never buy the SE's, not even to break them and send them back to Lucas in pieces, but that's hilarious what you did. It'd be a fine way to protest his endless meddling with the films.

edit: Finally back! what the heck happened to the forum for about an hour?

Death Star Attack Power Point

I was going to make a topic for this when I found it today but I just knew if somehow I stumbled onto this hilarious thing, someone else would have. And here we are.

I busted my gut laughing at the Proton torpeodo gag....

heh, now that I think on it. That actor is excellent at explaining everything in pretty memorable way. I guess that's why he was hired. I can't imagine anyone else explaining the death star run as good as him.

Maybe you haven't known him for as many years as I have. He's worshipping lucas. It's insanity, or money, but money can make someone do insane things that's for sure. If Lucas had Han jump on jabba's tail and shit on jabba, he'd eat it up. The man can do no wrong in his eyes and that's all he does on the boards is argue with people about lucas' flawlessness. It's either some sick game or some shit I don't even want to begin to care about for another minute.

I will always admire young 70s lucas for being the pioneer of great popcorn movies, not just shitty ones. But of course he's become a different person, more like an odd mix of jabba and the emperor. So I've lost a lot of my respect for him.

Now I'm going to play this video again and laugh at how silly he looks.

I really don't like how this movie's shaping up. It'll probably have its moments, but I'm not expecting anything too spectacular. The last two weren't that impressive aside from some good comedy parts and willem Dafoe and whoever played doc ock being greater than the material they were given to work with. I expect the same here. Raimi's spidey also hasn't yet captured very well that witty personality he displays in the comics and cartoons. That's been one of my main gripes so far and I doubt it'll really change, but who knows... maybe that alien will make peter more like the comic book spidey.

Why do you guys feed the troll?

Let him hug his jar jar plushy and suck Lucas' dick. It's been that way for years anyway. I've been on 4 different boards and it's always the same guy. And now he's here to stir shit up. don't give him what he wants.

Anyway thanks for the heads up. Lucas reminds me of the star wars kid, but old.

i really fucking hate midichlorians.

Notice the use of 'fucking' to denote ultra seriousness.

edit: after reading further up. Oh don't get me started on having threepio be built by annie. Good grief. Why didn't yoda tell Luke he knows his pal, Chewbacca personally? Damn... Yeah maybe he should have told Luke, "Hey, tell chewbacca you must... Owe me five bucks he does."

Back on topic. I concur with the person who always assumed threepio didn't know what the princess looked like exactly. I took that way but also kind of think he was just trying to stay out of trouble and not let luke know about the princess or is just being classic threepio who as we saw in esb can be somewhat unreliable and useless unlike R2.
