Flaws, plotholes, and "could-have-been-done-betters" in the OT (alternate plot points especially welcome)
Time

There is nothing wrong with Ewoks.

They are barbaric, ritualistic bears that live in trees. They hunt and cook prey live, and even use guerrilla tactics. Tactics they use to take on an army eons ahead of their time. That takes true balls.

People say the Ewoks beat the empire, but they were in fact getting slaughtered left and right before Chewie managed to steal an AT-ST and change the course of the battle. Chewie was the key to the fight on the ground, Lando the key to the space battle, and Luke cut off the head of the empire.

The OT is probably the best science fiction trilogy in the history of science fiction. Having a bitter sweet ending to the extent some of the writers and actors wanted would of absolutely killed the franchises legacy, especially when you accept that they were targeted towards children just as much as adults.

This however in no way is an excuse for the absolute failure of the prequels, but that goes without saying.

Ways to Do the Prequels with No Spoilers for the OT.
Time

The way I see Star Wars is this...

First there is the KoToR games, with the third being rewritten, disregarding TOR MMORPG. Then would come the prequels, which I've also rewritten.

Then we have the unaltered OT.

Followed by the Thrawn trilogy. After this we have the Jedi Knight games i.e. Jedi Knight, Mysteries of the Sith and Jedi Outcast. Then I'd fan out the Jedi Academy game into a trilogy and develop the characters further.

Then finally we'll hopefully have the new trilogy, which won't disregard anything that I've mentioned. So all together there are 7 trilogies.

I'd also want to make a series of shorts detailing the lives of three characters in each trilogy that we don't see. For example I'd have one simply titled 'Star Wars - Katarn' and detail his turn from the Empire, his stealing of the Death Star plans, and finally the Dark Trooper project. I'd also want one of Solo, detailing his turn from the Empire with the rescue of Chewbacca, and the fued with Fett.

<strong>STAR WARS: REBELS</strong> (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

Literally the only thing I'm not liking at the moment is some of the high octane animation sequences because they don't seem to have the right 'weight', and the actual models and textures seem quite cheap.

Otherwise I'm actually quite impressed with what they've managed to accomplish. They are telling a story I assume is 10+ years before ANH, and they are doing it quite well for multiple age groups. Sadly though I'm hoping for a dark ending to the series, giving reason for these characters not being in the OT, but I doubt that'll happen.

It's leaps and bounds above the Clone Wars, but I still miss the 2003 Clone Wars. That so far is seemingly unbeatable.

PT Re-Write: Jedi outfits
Time

Personally I'll just have them wearing whatever suits their character ( pun not actually intentional ). It'll be as far ranging as what we see of Jedi pre-prequel trilogy, and as varied as the KoToR or Jedi Knight games.

I'll have most of them wielding sabers of some sort, but some will use other forms of weaponry too like blasters and such, whilst some won't use anything at all.

I imagine a younger 'clique' of Jedi around Anakins age who are less reserved and not as wise or powerful in the force as the older masters. These will be the less orthodox Jedi, who we'll see are more forceful, leading the charge with the troops on the frontlines. Older Jedi like Obi-wan would be seen doing this when necessary, but would mostly be found hitting important targets in small, specialised strike teams aka Star Wars meets the SAS. People like Yoda I'm not sure if I'll even have fighting at all... 'wars not make one great'.

But I digress, although it comes back to clothing, I.E whatever suits the character and situation, which quite simply wouldn't be beige and brown robes 24/7.

Plot Hole in The Empire Strikes Back Discovered
Time

In regards to the Ion cannon, I always assumed it was a really high tech piece of equipment that was difficult to get hold of, especially considering the size of the thing. It's basically the ace up their sleeve in order to escape.

As for Bespin, it seems to me Fett was figuring out where they were going when tracking them, triangulating their trajectory, then instantly took this information to Vader.

Vader would then instantly move in as quickly as possible. By the time Han and crew got their on their limited propulsion Vader had already set up.

That might have have been a better introduction to him than we ultimately got. Wonder if Brooks worked from an earlier draft of the script?

I don't think so. Here's what I could find on the "revised rough draft" of the Phantom Menace, simply called "The Beginning": http://secrethistoryofstarwars.com/thebeginning.html

This opening scene is a fleshed out version of Anakin's near-fatal podrace crash which was only referenced in the script/film. It made for a more immediately engaging start to the book (which you should totally read on Amazon). I still remember that opening, it's so much better than the film.

That rough draft is awesome, and would of made for an amazing film.

Favorite Sith Lord from the EU?

I like to think that in order to feed he has to do something similar to battle meditation and is thus susceptible to physical harm whilst doing so. He can't just pull that kinda power out at a whim.

When the Exile managed to get to the bridge he simply didn't have the time to do it, or the strength, as he was coming purposefully to Telos to feed in order to get the strength to carry on and find more. It's like an endless addiction that slowly drains you when you're not feeding it.

I like Nihilus, to me he is the SW epitome of the ultimate power of the dark side and the what ultimately the dark side would take from you. That constant struggle between the dark side and humanity.

Clearly Malachor V hit him extremely hard, and twisted his connection to the force. Kreia seized upon this, and twisted it further in order to control him through his 'addiction', teaching him ways to feed his hunger. This leads into a downward spiral she couldn't even predict the depths of, culminating in his physical body becoming something almost ethereal, literally on a knife edge between physical being and an almost living force ghost.

Which I think ties in with his extreme powers. It's as if he can see beyond the 'mortal' realm and see into the infinity that is the force like a force ghost could, and thus he can tap into it and control it more than others, albeit at a terrible price to his mind and body. It's a weird power, and juxtaposes brilliantly to the Exiles powers.

Who Was Obi Wan Kenobi's Real Master?
Time

I always thought of Yoda as something like Pai Mei from Kill Bill, albeit less psychotic.

But again this just delves further into the problems with how the Jedi are portrayed in the PT in general. I never saw the Jedi as being this tens of thousands strong army of robe wearing emotionless monks, that incidentally had a giant temple on corrusant dedicated to training young children on mass.

For me they were numbered in the hundreds, if that. They were much more like noble knights, roaming the galaxy in order to learn more of the force and through it wisdom, whilst helping those in need.

This would also actually give us some interesting differences between Jedi, giving us Jedi who tow the line between good and evil, yet at their hearts are still good, again giving us the potential for mass variation in Jedi, like Jedi who use blasters, wear armor, fight alone from the shadows, or fight in groups with other Jedi or soldiers, hell, we could even have Jedi who refuse or don't need to fight, instead relying on their power over others minds.

I also didn't see them having a 'council' or a 'grand master', or really much of a governing structure at all, as it all completely contradicts the OT in that there are plenty of people who don't believe in the force and have clearly not even heard of the Jedi.

They always seemed more mysterious and legendary than what we are shown in the PT, and thus the idea of thousands upon thousands of beings, who train endless young children from extremely early ages at a towering temple at the centre of the galaxy, who later lead armies of clones in a galaxy spanning war, seemed out of place for a group of people who are near enough completely forgotten or talked about 20 years after they are wiped from existence. Wiped from existence by the very clones they lead, in a clear coup de tat by a military dictatorship government.

What do you HATE about the EU?
Time

Overall I hate most of the EU. It's a convoluted mess that serves nobody but second rate writers looking for their next pay check.

The only EU I take into account are the KoToR games, the Thrawn novels and then the Jedi Knight games.

I'm currently working on writing KoToR 3, exploring the 'ancient times' which is a complete rewrite of Marka Ragnos and the Great Hyperspace war, setting it a few thousand years after the fall of the Rakataka and the Infinite Empire. I'd also incorporate and rewrite the origins of the Valley of the Jedi, linking it to the threat that Revan went off into the unknown regions to fight. This will all in turn link in to my prequel rewrite.

If we watch them in order... ...
Time

In Star Wars Battlefront 2 it's established that after the revolt on Kamino the Empire started using more than just Jango Fett as a template, and that stormtroopers are cloned from more than one source.

It still sucks balls though, and yet again diminishes something else of the OT.

IMO the way in which Lucas handled the Clone Wars was a complete mess. The name 'Clone Wars' hints at mass armies of clones being used on both sides, throwing endless people at each other in brutal wars where the worth of man is completely non existent. Instead we just get the same guy shooting stupid robots over and over.

The largest problem with Anakin building C3PO is the fact that in the OT we see multiple droids that are the same make as C3PO.

Which means that either Anakin Skywalker designed an entire type of droid that would be the pinnacle of protocol droids for decades, or that he was exaggerating when he said he built it, and in fact only put it together from spare parts of other protocol droids. That were conveniently lying around Tatooine and that were the pinnacle of protocol droids for decades.

Either way it makes absolutely no sense at all. The way in which Vader doesn't regard him once in the slightest in the OT only compounds the ever increasing validity to the argument that Lucas can't write.

If you watch the series in numerical order there are numerous problems with the story. The largest problems however would be in regards to narrative, and the fact that the series biggest plot turns hold absolutely no weight to them at all. This is most apparent in ESB, with the discovery of Yoda and Vaders revelation to Luke.

and thus the dismissive butt hurt Jesus pictures make sense.

Are those the same stories that have an entire Sith empire ( hidden somehow ) invasion of the Republic based around two lost hyperspace travellers? Written by the same guy who brought Palpatine back to life?

Great stuff.

Well, this is a different kettle of fish altogether, isn't it? I have absolutely no problem with exploring the motivations of villains who lust for control; my problem is with mustache-twisting supervillains who are merely evil for the sake of being evil.

Just because you're too narrow minded to look past your own misconceptions of other peoples ideas doesn't mean you should get so butt hurt. I find it amusing you dislike supervillains that are evil for the sake of being evil, when in fact the vast majority of the villains of TOTJ are exactly that.

The Sith should be a culture like the Jedi, however they should be completely opposite in ideals. They should believe that only the strongest should rule as a natural form of evolution, the strong controlling the weak. Anyone who can wield the force for this purpose would simply become the strongest by default.

That's just basics. It's the history of these people and their motivations for this that should be the real story, and how they confront the Jedi over it. If we had Sith that are tormented over their decisions, who are then juxtaposed with others that embrace it fully, we'd actually see a dynamic to Star Wars that is just not seen enough besides the KoToR and JK games, and that was incidentally completely missed in the prequel trilogy.

Adding in all the BS about enslaved races and biologically created armies, walls of force light crap and ****ing thought bombs is just **** writing, and nothing more.

So having them originally be a race of creatures who are enslaved by exiled Jedi is in depth? That kind of contrived nonsense is actually of interest to you?

If that kind of shallow attempt at writing is what you consider interesting then fine. Personally I like to explore peoples motivations for their lust for power and control, rather than just throwing contrived set piece after set piece in a desperate bid to write terrible writing out of a corner.

You fail to realise that not everyone wants power for the same reason, and they don't come to these conclusions from the same place either. The reason they do in the EU is because Lucas allowed third rate writers endless freedom to write boring, two dimensional characters that are nothing more than uber-hardcore-evil-wizard-nerd-bait.

Your idea of depth and substance is thousands of years of contrived, rehashed history. Mine is character development. To each their own though, at least I actually got a ******* discussion out of you.
