Three Effing Bears - A John Rambo story.
Time

GRINDHOUSED SERIES VOL #4

A less serious retelling of John Rambo’s story. Rambo himself is a narrator who tell us story of his life in Forrest Gump fashion - the main narrative is the story from “First Blood” while second and third movie (along with some more additional material) become flashbacks of his earlier adventures. Everything is tied with John’s quest to find and face three mysterious bears colonel Trautman told him about.

Trailer: https://www.reddit.com/r/fanedits/comments/tjlutf/rambo_grindhouse_project_trailer/

  • primary storyline is First Blood
  • there is a flashback about Rambo’s life from before events of the movies build from elements taken from various movies
  • II and III are compressed to the form of flashbacks tied to the main plotline.
  • a fake AI Rambo voiceover created through fakeyou.com site applied to the whole film, he is commenting events depicted in the edit Forrest Gump style.
  • there was no excessive re-scoring ( I was going to do it, but source files are not re-scoring friendly) so it is still mostly Goldsmith music, but some songs and music were added to newly created scenes and to scenes which had originally no music at all. Some little re-building SFX in few instances.
  • some deleted material from First Blood and Rambo III from Ultimate Blu-ray edition has been included
  • additional footage from 12 non-Rambo movies was used.
Sometimes it is 1-2 minutes, sometimes just a few seconds.
  • additional music by: Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Doors, Jon Hare, Pornosonic, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Sammy Hagar, Jimi Hendrix, AC/DC, Pride & Glory, Mike Post, Simon Boswell and… Sylvester Stallone
  • most of the scenes in First Blood that doesn’t include Rambo himself have been cut. The story is now shown mostly from his point of view but there are still some exceptions from that (but we never leave Rambo for more than seconds).
  • grindhouse effects of varying severity added thoughout the movie
  • be warned that this edit includes high amount of swearing as well as nudity and sex scenes not present in original Rambo movies.

Final running time is 111 minutes, which includes around 67 minutes of First Blood (including credits and alternative/deleted material), 8 minutes of Rambo II and something like 25 minutes from Rambo III. So, a little more than 90% of it is Rambo, the rest is the material from various non-Rambo movies.

You mention that you are “planning” to rescore Snyder’s films using past Superman and Batman themes. Is there any possibility you won’t do this? I love both their classic themes but they just do not fit Snyder’s molds for these characters in his films.

I don’t think it would be a popular choice as you stated.

However, each to their own as this is YOUR own personal edit. Just wanted to say I would be interested if this change wasn’t made that’s all.

I’m planning on making edits of Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman 1984, Aquaman, Man of Steel, Batman V Superman and Justice League.

For the Superman’s ones, do you plan to make them less dark and more colorful maybe?

More colorful. I will say upfront that my plans and intentions for Zack Snyder’s films are going to be extremely unpopular with many people. I’m planning on re-scoring and restoring John Williams’ Superman theme and Danny Elfman’s Batman theme.

I’ve already done edits of Superman, Superman II and Superman Returns already, if you’d like to check them out.

I hate to say this, but I’m not going back on my decision. I just find Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL’s scores to be depressing, forgettable and droning with the wallpaper sound most films released today I have.

Hans Zimmer’s Superman theme, for what it is, is a good fine theme, but to me, it’s not a good and appropriate Superman theme. I have never liked Junkie XL’s theme, as it felt like getting smacked upside the head with a keyboard. Very loud and headache inducing.

I’m sorry that some will not like my thoughts on the music and why I plan on replacing it, however, I am not the first to do this. Agent 9’s edit of Man of Steel, which will play a heavy influence on these projects, replaced Zimmer’s work with John Williams’ masterpiece of a score, and his project won Favorite Edit of the Month on fanedit.org.

I’ve put Elfman’s Batman theme, Elfman’s Flash theme from 90s show, classic Batman Tv show theme and classic Wonder Woman TV show theme in my JL edit and won FEOTM too 😃 Also, I consider Elfman’s JL soundtrack to be better than the music from ZSJL, which I consider to be really boring.

I will always support that kind of changes.

Please tell me this is still forthcoming. I really need a good edit of the Hobbit to watch when I do my all-day LOTR binge-watch marathons, and this seems the closest to being a worthwhile version of those films.

Watch M4’s.
This one looks, at least for me, like some kind of neverending story in editing, like someone has bitten more than he could chew. I might be wrong but… it is over 4 years now since it was announced.

Star Beast (Alien Grindhoused)
Time

Next project I am workin’ on is Grindhoused edition of one of my favourite movies evah!

Here are opening credits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8ExnjRmlV0

It will be faster, funnier cut with grindhouse feel all over it and little touch of absurd, obviously. There will be some deleted footage reinstated, quite different soundtrack and, as a cherry on top of it - an alternative ending.

There’s still much work to do, though.

ALIEN: REDUX - The Virtual Workprint (Released)

Looks like there was un-needed fps change from 23,976 to 24 for the HD footage which apparently caused visible ghosting.

Also, I’ve noticed some flash frames at cut points (for example in the scene where alien attacks Lambert).

krausfadr - are you sure you didn’t overreacted a little?

Sure that’s possible. But I don’t want to edit in an environment where admins think they have the authority to demand receipts for movies. They don’t. Assumed guilty until proven innocent is not my bag baby.

Fair enough.
In fact, I’d agree with above statement.

Grindhouse Series Vol. 3 - Mortal Kombat (1995) (a WIP)

GRINDHOUSED SERIES VOL#5: KOMBAT BLOODY KOMBAT

Poster: https://preview.redd.it/641tyoq294ja1.jpg?width=513&format=pjpg&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=cdec722f00af52c341e06224194963ca1b44e405

As a long time fan of first two Mortal Kombat games I was always a fan of this movie too. But since it didn’t really get any interesting edits yet, I’ve decided to make it. So here it is, a fifth part of “Grindhoused Series” - this time it isnt as much about changing the plot like it was in the case of “Three Bears” Rambo edit, but about modyfing the tone & overall feel (there are still some surprise additions though). So, what we have here?

  • Added a few scenes from various unrelated movies
  • Added a few scenes from Mortal Kombat Annihilation
  • Added a couple of little bits from theatrical trailer
  • Added grindhouse effects throughout the movie
  • COMPLETE RE-SCORE. Instead of 90s techno and George S. Clinton’s music (which served very well as the soundtrack here), now he have a compilation of themes from martial arts movies from 70s and 80s with some music from my favourite fighting games from the 90s (MK II included) with a little addition of Ennio Morricione and couple more songs
  • Several scenes have partially or completely rebuilded audio and many sfx were replaced with SFX from the games (namely MK 2, 10 and 11).
  • some new dialogue lines were added and some old lines replaced, which was often done to comical effect.
  • Added some CGI blood in several scenes, but dont expect it to be too realistic - I am no VFX artist, and It was meant to be nothing more than fun and over the top nod to the early MK games.
  • As I really like this movie as it is I have not cut much - only the intro (replaced with new one), the scene with random guys being thrown to the ground by Goro, a short part of first Kano/Tsung scene (because some shots were re-purposed) and cliffhanger ending
  • BE WARNED: you may expect some nudity and R-rated language but nowhere near “Three Bears” levels.

Running Time: 110 minutes
