Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

Well, like many of the OT things recreated for the prequels (Vader's costume, Yoda, Anakin/Luke's lightsaber) they just didn't do a very good job making it look like the original. In ROTS he was much thicker over all with a noticably different shape to his head/face and his fur color seemed more golden and had a different texture/sheen to it.

That shot posted above is awesome because it looks MUCH more like the OT Chewbacca costumes.

Don't forget Jabba! Why does he have four fingers in TPM and the SEs instead of three, among other inaccuracies?

Toy companies can make very accurate recreations of these characters and props, but it was apparently beyond Lucasfilms capabilities during the prequel era.

Do the Star Wars movies contain evidence that Lucas makes it up as he goes?
Time

I don't have a problem with the Jedi being monastic. The only thing it seems to be inconsistent with is the EU.

Sure, it may not have been the plan all along, but it's one of the few things from the prequels that fits the portrayals of Obi-Wan and Yoda in the OT as these hermits that forgo all materialism. It's very Christ and Buddha like, which were obvious influences on Lucas.

It also makes it seem like Luke and the Rebels didn't actually accomplish anything. Who cares that they defeated the Sith if there is still an evil dictatorship running things?

As far as I'm concerned, the death of Palpatine spelled the beginning of the end of the Empire. Without central leadership, the Empire devolved into chaos and broke apart as every warlord with a thirst for power began fighting his brother for possession of Palpatine's throne, allowing the Rebels to move on in and gain enough ground to establish a New Republic.

I don't need everything wrapped up in a neat little package right away to feel as if something significant was accomplished.

So, what are you saying exactly? Your earlier post made it sound like you were cool with the Empire still existing 30 years after RotJ. When I said it would seem Luke had accomplished nothing I was referring to the idea of the Empire still being around 30 years later. I'm fine with the idea that it may have taken the Rebels a few years to completely dismantle the Empire, but Vader and the Emperor were obviously their biggest obstacles.

Basically, I'm trying to say it would be incredibly lame to me if these movies are going to be Rebel Alliance vs. Galactic Empire with no sense of accomplishment or progress since Jedi.

Ugh. That really bums me out.

The Empire still around after getting soundly trounced thirty years ago.

Much like the Tatooine material I've seen, there's going to have to be a REALLY good explanation for this when the film comes out.

If America could survive the assassinations of Lincoln and Kennedy, I'm 100.100% sure the Galactic Empire could survive the vaporization of Palps.

P.S.: I'm glad the ending of ROTJ: SE is getting shat on. Lucas deserves it.

Strong argument since there's no examples of governments falling when their leaders are killed.

We're talking about a series of films that are supposed to be modern fairy tales. It's pretty clear that the intention was that with the evil sorcerer dead peace would return to the kingdom, and that's with or without the SEs.

It also makes it seem like Luke and the Rebels didn't actually accomplish anything. Who cares that they defeated the Sith if there is still an evil dictatorship running things?

Yeah, I'd assume that if the senate was brought back that they would just use a lot of the Empire's infrastructure. Especially if Luke hasn't established a new Jedi Order, which is sounding likely from the rumors.

The Empire likely even had craft almost finished in shipyards that could be put into service, much like China bought an old, nearly complete Soviet era aircraft carrier and fitted her out.

Well, I'm hoping that's the case because the alternative, that the Empire is still around 30 years after Jedi, just seems stupid.

Blu-Ray Of Unaltered Original Trilogy Rumour
Time

So what's stopping Fox from just releasing their own restoration of Star Wars and then leaving Empire and Jedi up to Disney post 2020?

I always assumed Fox never messed around with Star Wars out of courtesy to George, but he's out of the equation now.

Sure, it's not going to be the streamlined box set that most would like, but it is better than nothing and may be better than waiting on them to come to some deal.

Am I missing something?

What do you LIKE about the EU?
Time

The only thing mandalorian about Fett was the armour. It's been that way since before the prequels.

Just read the bio on the back of Hasbro's Power of the Force Fett figure or the Visual Dictionary. They both clearly state that he wears mandalorian armour but nothing about Fett himself being mandalorian. In fact, the bio from Hasbro even stated that the mandalorians were destroyed during the clone wars.

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**
Time

I agree with TheBoost.

Yoda: A Jedi must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind.

The only thing it really conflicts with is the EU.

George made the retcon in an attempt to appease EU fans and stupid people asking, "Where do baby Jedi come from if they never fuck?".

The thing that surprised me was how intertwined the Jedi and Republic were in the prequels. I always expected the Jedi to be a separate organization that was called upon whenever there was trouble, sort of like the Justice League.

Furthermore, the movies barely did anything to define the relationship between the Jedi and the Republic. Why, for instance, did the chancellor have to send the jedi to the Naboo blockade in secrecy. Would the senate have normally had vote on sending the Jedi?
