Larger update

New update. I have images back on the back. I know it’s dated, but I really like the retro look. Could change again or have 2 variants.

Here is a box update as well. The top image is minor changes to make it cleaner and grammar spelling fixes as well as alignment. The bottom, however, is a bigger change. I really just Added a CBS FOX VIDEO Logo. Again this is still not permanent and can change as well.

I am working on Posters and Cards and hopefully will have some shot of those up sometime soon.

Thank you guys for the honest comments of praise and criticism. It just makes me strive to do better.

Any interest in professionally made box sets for Despecialized?

Thanks for the input. I think that some level of collaboration is certainly welcome and would lend itself to greater input from the community in terms of the final product. Personally, I really like the DIY stuff, mine included, but I think it is fair to say that I would also like to have something commercially produced.

As far the the mouse house, there would be no advertising and no other customers and boxes/sets would be disc free of course…maybe a group buy strictly for the OT community, something of that nature.

A group for OT members Strictly would be great!

Could set up a list of Sorts for Different Packages. Maybe a Limited Run on Steel books, or Special Boxsets. Maybe some incentives for those who Collab on making this happen and contributing artwork/designs for this to happen.

I’m working on something. I would even collaborate with others to make a professional box set. I am looking into making custom TOPPS Cards for mynset. They would be pretty much cards of the sources and fan edits used for Harmys and the Creators of the edits. I’m doing posters and more. But this will take time and a lot of effort that I’m putting in.

I do see that having something produced on large-scale would be fun and exciting for us, but could draw some unwanted attention if these are to professional, by Disney.

Well, here we are. I have finished my set and it is now available to you all. I have spent a lot of time on this making this something special to me and hopefully something this community will love as well. This Is my custom set for you all to use!

The set includes:
3 Covers with an inner image (if using blue case I recommend no inner image, I think it looks weird)
3 leaflets with a chapter guide on the inside
3 disc labels (my discs in the image are placeholders, my CD printer died and only had these test one. yours will differ)
And 3 sets of mini lobby cards, 1 set for each movie.

I printed the Covers and Leaflets on a standard double sided glossy paper
The Mini Lobby cards were printed on a card stock similar to collectible cards. The paper was also a matte finish.

Without further ado here is the set!

Criterion-like box set for njvc's custom blu-ray set
Time

I am in progress of working on this. Trying to cover sizeimg for 3 12.5mm Blu-ray cases.

Hey everybody. This criterion set looks absolutely amazing. My main issue is trying to construct a box to hold my blu cases. Can anybody advise how they went about making theirs? Material? How to thread?

Also, I know selling the discs is frowned upon but is anybody making the boxes for sale?

Thanks
Mike

Blu-Ray and other HD box size STAR WARS covers

Here is a glimpse of my Currently W.I.P Box Set. The Image shown will be the back (still tweaking for now). I really want the back to give a brief intro to Harmy and his work. I hope this shows the respect I have for him and How grateful I am for his extremely dedicated hard work. I’ll update the box as I move forward.

Hello! I was considering building menus and all for myself, but this looks FANTASTIC, and I love that you’ve included 3rd party commentaries like RLM, Collider, etc. However, I don’t have access to SPLEEN. How do I go about earning an invite? Please & thank you to anyone who can help. May the Force be with you… always.

DIY is absolutely more rewarding and gives you that sense of accomplishment. I am just stuck on trying to make a box for 3 12.5mm Blu-ray cases and one for 4 12.5mm Blu-ray cases. I search day in and day out and come up short each and every time. Mainly because I am looking for a template for illustrator.

Ronwlim,

We understand and no need to explain or to justify your prices. Sharing your files with everybody was more than generous.

Believe me, if I was in this for the money, I could keep making these. I stopped at the initial five I offered 18 months ago. I have a wait list of 8 names if I ever decided to make more.

DIY! It’s the most satisfying. Google how to burn discs and make your own box. There are so many tutorials on methods on YouTube.

Did you have templates for the discs? Or do you have to align the image with disc correctly? I have looked into buying one of these printers. And any info is a great help.

I used stealthboy’s Criterion set source files as the basis for my set… I’d say my set was 90 percent untouched from his files that he shared.

I tweaked the wording of a few things, updated the box artwork to add a starfield instead of plain black background on the top/bottom/spine, but otherwise I left it alone. His set is ready to go and is a beautiful presentation of NJVC’s blu-rays and you really don’t have to touch what he did at all if you just want to create the same set as he ended up sharing.

As for alignment when printing discs… I did end up using exported graphics from Gimp for the disc labels themselves and laid them out with the utility that comes with the Canon printer itself. It handled the alignment without flaws. If I had felt like it, I’m sure I could have found the right settings to print on the disc from the Preview app (I’m on a Mac) with just using the exported graphics, but since I had the utility from Canon I just went with that anyway.

I had the same thoughts. I found the current Canon Pixma series of printers that will print on discs to be the best solution.

I bought a Pixma MX922 multifunction for about $80 from Amazon along with a set of four full replacement ink cartridges (3rd party) for another ~$20.

For $100 I got a printer that has been excellent for printing both the discs themselves and - when using the right photo paper - the blu-ray case inserts and graphics/pages to cover my home made slipcase boxes.

I just finished last night with the production of 5 full sets of discs… with lots of experimentation over the last couple of months, and several attempts that required me to throw away printed materials I am just barely into the second replacement set of ink, so I would say my total out-of-pocket for the printer and ink is only about $90.

Absolute no worries! Completely understand. Thank you for the response

ronwlim said:

I’m afraid you’ll have to recreate that one on your own. It was exclusive to those who bought my box set. The resources to ape the Topps card on your own can be found online.

Best,
Ron

Went to Kinkos to have these printed. My Bluray case sizes are 12.5mm, after printing, I attempted to put them in the cases and they are too big? Did I print these wrong? I told them not to scale. What is the best way to print?

Edit: I did split the PDF before print, could that be why?

I’m not 100% sure - but I think many of the blu ray covers knocking around may be for cases with 14mm spines.

Looks like I’ll have to adjust then lol. But it’s weird because the spine looked center and to fit.

Years ago, to try to make sure my old custom dvd covers were the right size, all aligned up correctly, and the cover itself looked ‘ok’ - I used to do a test print on my old home printer; I’d copy my image file to a MS Word file and then select ‘draft quality’ settings on normal A4 paper, and print it, then cut it out to size and fit it into a dvd case.

Think it saved me a few £££’s on the ink (as well as time and effort) I’d have wasted otherwise 😃

Will actuall try this! Great idea.

Here is the image (orange outline) white she is flip side of a standard blu ray cover. This is how much it over sized.

Oh and the part at top right that looks like it hangs over, it’s just bent up, it’s actually aligned.

The original was done by Blake Armstrong, I believe, give credit where credit is due, he did a fine job with what resources he had at the time he did it, which was way before everything like on set photos of actors in costume, so he did a fantastic job.

Here’s is the link to the older Han. I’m going to go back to this picture and see if I can add a couple more things, but they will be faded, so you will barely make it out, I don’t want to ruin it, but I want to see what I can do, to make it better, if you will.

Assets like layout and EPS files are from Phildesfr download links.

Looks awesome but why ANH Han?

Was in the Artwork I found. They Probably took existing images and filtered them to look drawn and this was best Han they found.

CarboniteSolo edited the original poster to have old Han

Do you have a link? or point in the right direction? Would love to update this with Old Han.

Searched his post History and can not find what you are referring to. Some links were dead. so I am not sure if it was there or not.
