“We Aryans are those of European descent who are racially conscious and who have committed our lives to our people’s survival and evolutionary advancement. We shall do our duty. We shall not surrender our freedom and our very existence to Jewish or any other power. We shall preserve our heritage and our hard-won rights and freedoms. We shall guide our people up the evolutionary stairway to the stars.”

- David Duke, My Awakening, p. 469 (1998)

"So you're one of those sodomists. Are you a sodomite?" Savage asked.

The caller replied: "Yes, I am."

"Oh, you're one of the sodomites," Savage said. "You should only get AIDS and die, you pig. How's that? Why don't you see if you can sue me, you pig. You got nothing better than to put me down, you piece of garbage. You have got nothing to do today, go eat a sausage and choke on it."

- Michael Savage to a caller on his short-lived MSNBC show. http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/news/2003-07-07-msnbc-fires-savage_x.htm

"radical homosexuals and radical Islamists are one and the same, they're all terrorists."
- Michael Savage

"I'd like to see them [Muslim extremists] hanging from lampposts in the entire Middle East. I'd like to see the Muslim world rise up en masse. ... [T]hen I as an American will believe -- and you know what I'll believe? I'll believe there's a difference between the two. Not until then. Otherwise, until I see that day, that they're strung up from lampposts, they're lying to me. And that they're really secretly getting off on these murderers, because they don't have the guts to do it themselves. Okay, that's when I'll believe in the heart of hearts -- when I see them hanging from lampposts, with their guts hanging out, then I'll believe that there's a difference between radical Islam and the rest of Islam over there. But if I don't see that -- if I don't see the massive uprising against them, I can only assume that they're the shock troops of all of Islam in the Middle East. How do you like that? That's my opinion. I'm not George Bush running for office, and this message was approved by Michael Savage."

"SAVAGE: But women in America don't really like anger. They don't even like the news, I don't know if you know that. They just want it to be calm, and safe -- and they want girl talk all the time. So I'll talk in a quiet, soothing voice today so that women don't get scared and run away. I'll make it friendly for women."

- Michael Savage June 22, 2004

"You know something; I'm voting for Bush, I just made up my mind. There's nothing in this for me. I'm a white male, I'm a white, male, married heterosexual -- I don't want the Democrats. Everywhere I turn, there's another hot coal in my eye. For example, today's DNC calendar of public events included lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender meeting, the disability meeting, the ethnic meeting, the American Indian meeting, the Asian/Pacific Islander meeting, the Hispanic meeting, and the African American meeting -- God bless 'em, they're entitled to their meeting, I'm entitled to my vote, they're not my party, end of story . And that's it. I'm not voting for a party of ethnic minorities and women and immigrants. I will not do it. And if I thought for a moment that they had changed their direction, if I thought for a moment there was a new Democrat Party that was more centrist and more focused on the real issues of today, I would have considered, well, maybe sitting the election out, or voting for Kerry -- no, I'm not."

Idea: Library of Congress Film Preservation access?
Time
I think the only problems with the Lowry restoration is the fact that George asked for as little grain as possible to match them up with the digitally shot prequels, and that the Lowry team was given only a month per film. The official DVDs are free of dirt, obviously, but with more time to tweak and correct errors that their automated filters created (such as lost starfields, laser glow and non-white lightsaber cores) I think the Lowry team could have done a much more effective job in preserving more of the original look of the film.

Of course the color grading is a whole other matter...

It seems like (from also compairing at Zion's screenshot site) the TR47, Isomix and Mysterious Mysteries transfers are identical save for color saturation and tint changes.

Also, slightly off topic, your transfer, Moth3r, seems more closely cropped than the others, but also the nicest looking and sharpest. Is this from a difference in the LD used or simply your transfer method?

Idea -- Original Theatrical Prequels
Time
Here's what IMDB has to say about DVD changes:

"In the original theatrical version, when C-3PO is firing on the Jedi, he said "Die Jedi, Die Scum." The word "scum" was removed from all subsequent versions. In fact, if you listen closely to the current DVD version, you can still hear 3PO begin to make the "s" sound before his voice cuts out."

and also:

"The DVD edition of "Attack of the Clones" features several small additions to the theatrical version of the film:

In the Lars Homestead, after Anakin has confessed his slaughter of the Tuskens and slumped to the floor, Padmé states, "To be angry is to be human," and Anakin responds, "I'm a Jedi! I know I'm better than this!"

Before Jango Fett is killed by Mace Windu, the sparks coming out of his damaged jetpack are much more visible.

After falling from the gunship and eventually awakening, Padmé replies to the Clonetrooper's question of concern with a painfilled "Uh-huh" instead of "Yes."

During the wedding scene, the Digital cut's moment of Padmé taking Anakin's hand has been inserted instead of a shot of Anakin's false arm and a pan up."

I don't think Mike wants it released in any way, shape or form since it'd obviously lead straight back to him considering he's not really doing this secretly or under an assumed name.

And the whole topic of "what are the ethics of changing effects shots, shouldn't you be preserving the original, etc..." is kind of a touchy dead horse that's been beaten far too many times.

Heck, I'd say you couldn't even beat it anymore. It's more like a puddle of something formerly known as "horse" being stomped around in gleefully by a few (one) people on the boards.

Oh well.

Anyway, welcome aboard!

Idea: My idea for the ultimate pre-ANH edition
Time
That's what I'd always assumed, that the crawl was the only visual difference.

Things like "Blast it Biggs/Wedge" and 3PO's tractor beam speech were all present in 1977 on one of the three official sound mixes.

So any "Ultimate" pre-ANH version would just include the original six channel, two channel and mono mixes along with the original title crawl.

But I'll be satisfied with the torrent version I'm downloading now

I think I remember him saying at one point that he's showing it on his site so that others can follow his lead and make their own.

So with any luck someone'll make a picture-perfect recreation of Mike's personal version and share it.

And even if that doesn't happen, I still think it's really neat to watch his progress.

Even if nothing's progressed for almost two months. Heh heh

Thought on de-SE'ing the DVD
Time
Well certainly from a "restoring the original trilogy" perspective I understand it for ANH. I did like him in TPM though. I thought it was a neat cameo that brought a little bit of the Original Trilogy in the prequels, which isn't bad, in my opinion.

But to each his own and all that jazz.

In any case I'd love to see both versions with some sweet, sweet seamless branching on an ANH DVD.
