Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever : The Assembly Cut
Time

Hey everybody, hope everyone is having a good summer now let’s get into this!

Awhile back I posted about a BF workprint fan edit

https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Batman-Forever-Workprint-/id/124040

which was basically going by reviews on how the cut was during the Kevin Smith’s showing HOWEVER thanks to a unknown fan they were able to re-screen the workprint cut in a theater & thankfully it during an early showing during the day which basically gave everyone a better chance to see & have it fresh in their minds as opposed to showing it at 3am. Anyways I recently decided to retackle my cut & had some inside help from Ben from Superhero Stuff You Should Know & his reivew via " Batman Forever The Schumacher Cut - Scene by Scene Breakdown " & Mindd Kidzag for providing a score list of tracks used in the workprint. Now of course Ben couldn’t remember every little shot that was different or added from the theatrical cut aside from the major ones & I didn’t use every track that used in the WP mainly because … it was a f*cking mess! Seriously if you read the timestamp of which track is placed or edited in you’d be flabbergasted how all over the place it was! So instead I just used the soundtrack that was used ( excluding cape fear ) & place the appropriate tracks to where I think fitted the best.

Cuts & additions :

• Restored the entire timeline to that of the WP
• Deleted the entire BF flyby opening credits however the BF logo is used later
• Added all deleted/alternate/extended scenes/dialogue are included ( or at least almost ) exlcuding " Wrong turn " & "
Grayson’s pain " as these were not present in the WP
• Added WB logo from “Goodfellas” (1990)
• Arkahm break out now serves as the opening credits
• BF march is retain whenever it was present in the theatrical
• Soundtracks from Batman 1989, Batman Returns 1992, PeeWee’s Big Adventure, Darkman, Alien 3, Demolition Man, & Interview with the vampire are used as the new temp exlcuding EG’s BF march as mentioned that was still present in the WP
• Laundry foo is deleted
• Batman confronting the riddler after destroying claw island is deleted

And that’s pretty much it however the cut is at 95% as some SFX are needed in certain areas but it is viewable just check my community post for the link & let me know what you think.

Side note I will try implementing cape fear’s soundtrack into the cut as while I think tracks I’ve used fitted well, I won’t deny cape fear doesn’t fit Two-Face but other then that hope you guys enjoy the cut & to what BF could’ve been at most.

How’s the project coming along? Do you have any screenshots from the project?

No screenshots needed as the footage has remained unaltered aside from the deleted scenes which were restored amongst minor clips HOWEVER the only major alteration ( if you wanna call it that ) is the Bruce & Nygma first meeting which has the color pallet matching the deleted footage as a blue hue looks much better. Aside from that footage aside from the deleted scenes the footage remains the same.

How’s that for a title?

Hey, everyone former editor " ThatGuyWhoEdits " making a return on here with a new/old Batman edit that’s been in development hell for quite sometime now mainly due to personal reasons along with watching various reviews of people’s viewing of the Schumacher cut that was shown at Kevin Smith’s screening & I want to get this off as I do wanna tackle other edits but this one just keeps pulling me back in whenever I learn something new about the cut & ugh it’s like poison ivy’s pheromone dust!

So what is the goal for this particular cut? Quite simple to recreate the workprint in which was shown at Kevin Smith’s screening given every info that was shared online who attended while using every bit of footage that is available from commercials, BTS, DVD extras, & music videos despite quality however not everything will be implemented as alot of the footage is unfinished or incomplete as they’re mere segments such as Nygma working on his invention before Bruce arrives ( U2 ) , Batman trying to remove the lock on the helicopter’s steering wheel then looking up as it’s too late ( U2 ) & finally Bruce waking up from his nightmare ( U2 ) HOWEVER I do believe this can be revised by using Batman Begins morning scene by deepfaking Val & Michael’s face onto Bale’s & Cain’s bodies along with recreating the dialogue from the script as well using AI but testing will be needed to see how it’ll look & sound.

From what I’ve gather is the workprint used various temp scores mostly from Elfman’s Batman work from the first 2 Burton films along with Beetlejuice, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure & even Edward Scissorhands ( surprisingly ) where’s Goldenthal’s Batman march is kept in tact but even some his work from Demolition Man & Interview with the vampire were included.

Before I begin need to note that while alot of the footage remains intact from the original film & from the sources mentioned some scenes were added in post thus their absence from the workprint so if anyone notice some things missing that’s the reason as I’m trying to be closed to the workprint & not be a full on extended or director’s cut.

  • CUTS & ADDITIONS -

Sorry but there’s too much to cover but let’s just say I really went through the ball park in making sure every scene had a new track added from the ones listed above where’s others work well without a score imo.
