You were told that profiting off of something like this was against site policy AND copyright laws.....and you responded by saying that you were going to do it anyways. You only changed your tune and "apologized" when everybody started telling you what a douche you were for endangering the project by insisting on profiting off of this edit. And I think it's more than clear that apologizing for someone else "getting their balls in a twist" is not really an apology at all.

There's is a lot of things I would like to say to you guys at the moment, but I will refrain. I think I will take my business elsewhere before I am banned, in case I need to come back for something. Back to millenniumfalcon.com where I will talk about how big of douche bags users at OT.com are. I'm excluding Adywan though as I have great respect for your work and everyone else working on preservation of the original trilogy. Bon voyage!

It's kinda hard to apologize when everyone comes at me with guns blazing.

Look "Honest" up in the dictionary. I'm reasonably sure Piracy isn't included in the entry.

Doesn't say you won't still sell the edits, only that you won't put a fee on top.

Clearly.

(btw I didn't hear the apology to Adywan?)

To be honest, I was never really interested in selling anyways. I knew it was illegal from the start. What threw me off was when I saw people selling edits/Star Wars Holiday Special online which made me think maybe it is legal now that Star Wars is owned by Disney. I emailed these people to ask if it is really legal and some told me it is, giving me the impression it is legal to sell for the cost of physical media, shipping and labor to make the discs, case jacket, DVD menus etc. I was just posting this to see if it was in anyway true. Now I know. Adywan, I apologize for getting your balls twist in a knot. I promise I will not sell anything related to fan edits, copies, The Star Wars Holiday Special etc. I guess there is no way for me to prove that but I can give you my word. What else should I say?

1997 - an honest attempt to improve the films

2004 - chance to include his prequel parasites into OT

2011 - he was simply trolling the fans

I guess some would also describe the prequels being an honest attempt telling a backstory to the original trilogy. What makes the 1997 SE any more honest than the two video edits that followed? IMO there wasn't anything honest about it. In fact, most of it was just R&D and an experiment for ILM in preparation for the prequels. An experiment and a fun little 20th anniversary for the fans which have now sadly replaced the historical films. A butchering and bastardization of a beloved classic is how I would describe it.

The modern "filmmaking"-touches of Lucas we got a taste of in 1997 is very consistent with what we were presented with in 1999. Seriously, if Lucas was simply trolling the fans with his BD updates, what is it about those 2011 changes that are so radically different compared to the poor choices and filmmaking style seen in the '97 SE, Prequels, THX 1138 SE, '04 SE that makes people seriously think he would go to such length? Please, explain it to me.

At least Lucas had the courtesy to release the 1997 SE in VHS labeled as such. In 2004 and 2011 it was false advertising.

No. Just no. No, they aren't on myspleen. No, will anyone send you links to download them. That is straight piracy, something that fan editors and preservationists avoid like the plague. That's the kinda shit that gets us in trouble and sites like OT shut down.

Go find them. They are on Amazon and Ebay (I just found them for decent prices used). If you are looking for JUST the Gout releases, there are PLENTY of iso releases online of amazing preservations of them. If you want the special editions (97 or 05), those are still in print.

Do not straight out ask for links to something like this. That isn't what we do here. To download any preservation or fan-edit, you are supposed to already own the original material if it is available anyways. The original Star Wars trilogy is actively available. Or, and gee I dunno how foreign of a concept this is, but there are TONS of sites that have ISOs up already. Go Google that shit.

And if you think we are assholes about it, then you can just leave because I guarantee you Mother and the rest of the mod team is gonna be pissed when they read this.

I actually already did google and I couldn't find any that included the DVD menus, that is why I asked. I own the 2004 DVDs, 2011 Blu-rays and I plan on buying the GOUT, but I was just curious to see if I could download them online to preview before buying. I know that isn't exactly legal, but I assure you I plan on buying them.

I like to have the retail versions anyways as I am very picky about quality. I already sent a PM to Silverwook apologizing for my actions and I will send one to Jay & Moth3r as well. I know I haven't been the greatest at following your site rules, but I am new to this and am learning.

I did not realize how strictly you guys enforce the rules. I like this site a lot, it has been one of my favorites I have visited concerning this issue, but I am not used to this strict of forum rules as I am used to chatting on IMDB, facebook, yahoo groups, milleniumfalcon.com, and other sites that don't seem to monitor or care about what you say as much.

I apologize and I will straighten up moving forward.

Could someone PM me links to download full DVD versions of the OT letter-boxed limited editions that came out as bonus discs in 2006? I never heard back from this Myspleen thing so if there is an alternate location to download them I would appreciate that, if Myspleen is the only place, could someone help me out as I have not heard back from my invitation request on Myspleen and I don't know where to find things there.

Are you incapable of understanding the rules?

There's the rules you read and the ones you read in-between. Sorry, but aren't we all a little guilty here? ;-} I didn't think it was illegal for me to ask for PM links of downloads? I already learned that you can't post downloads on the forum. Sorry, I'll stop.

Zombie84 is the webmaster of Save Star Wars as well as the author of the book The Secret History of Star Wars which details the production of the original 1977 film. His posts tend to be incredibly insightful and thought-out. Unfortunately, he has a habit of disappearing.

To be honest, I figure it was more along the lines of a "good enough" approval from Lucas rather than a glowing appraisal aside from his additional changes for this set. For someone who tinkers with them so often, he claims to not watch the movies too frequently - I believe every five years is his estimate.

That looks very interesting, just my kind of person. Thanks for enlightening me!

If I distribute copies of this edit through Blu-ray/DVD discs in cases, could I sell them for the cost of the disc(s), Blu-ray case, and cost of shipping? Would it also be Ok for me to throw in a few additional bucks for the cost of labor?

No, and hell no.

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Fan-edit-preservation-forum-rules-and-FAQ/forum/18/topic/5950/

Read it all.

Why should I be punished financially for distributing something that Lucasfilm should have done a long time ago for the cost of the DVDs and Blu-rays? We paid full price for half-ass releases of the movies.

I may just have to go against your word on distribution of these. There are many people who I know that would like this edit, but do not have Blu-ray burners, blank Blu-ray cases & discs, and do not know/are not interested in purchasing them and downloading and burning these edits themselves.

What are the penalties if caught distributing these for the cost of producing them on physical media, shipping, plus a few additional dollars for labor? I see people selling fan edits on amazon and ebay all the time. I have emailed some of them and some responded claiming it is legitimate if you just sell them for the cost of the physical media, shipping, and a few additional dollars for labor of making them. I found out that it may still be illegal and I emailed them back telling them that, and only one responded saying "they will take it under advisement."

One of them didn't outright say this, but gave me the impression that now that Star Wars is under ownership of Disney, it is legal to do so now. That is bullshit, correct?

Deliberate creative decisions.

Yeah, he claims that these were creative decisions he originally intended but he either: Didn't have the technology to do it back then, Didn't have the time/money to do it at the time.

George Lucas could have just as easily inserted Darth Vader saying "Nooooooo!" with 1983 technology as he could have with 2010/2011 technology when he was making the Blu-rays.

This is him changing his mind after all these years and I won't stand for it. Most films get respectable DVD/Blu-ray releases, even unpopular films. Star Wars is probably the most popular film in history and we keep getting these sub-par releases of the films.

My computer keeps restarting itself. What the #$&@ is causing it?
Time

Well, if it is 10 years old, then it is probably time to start looking into a new one. But if you want to work with what you have, I would suggest buying a new power supply, buying an SSD and installing a new OS on it. If you're a Windows user I suggest getting Windows 8.1. There are free ways to get it, but IDK if they are legal. You might want to look into upgrading your RAM too. How much RAM, what type of processor, power supply, and what kind of motherboard do you have?

It could be anything. I am guessing that you have a poor power supply. It is not uncommon for pre-built computers (which I assume you're using) to come with shoddy power supplies. I would suggest looking at your hardware and finding out what the voltage and amperage needed for your hardware is and then finding a power supply online made by a reputable company such as Corsair, Seasonic, OCZ, PC power & Cooling, etc. and buying one through them to replace your existing one. If you don't want to do that yourself, take it to a PC store that can help you with that.

Besides "The films need to be the way I want them," has Lucas stated anything as to why the Blu-rays became the travesty that they are?
Time

I remember reading in an article awhile ago when the Star Wars Trilogy first came out on Blu-ray, Lucas stated in what I believe was an Empire magazine article, something along the lines of this: "The films that have my name on them, need to be the way I want them." -George Lucas.

That is all the publicity I remember Lucas stating after the godawful Blu-rays were released. I think it was quite cowardly of him to not say anything about the changes he made to the films before they were released on Blu-ray and to be so quiet about the whole process of creating the Blu-rays. There was obvious quality control issues with it. I would like to know the technicality that went into making Blu-rays because there was some obvious glaring errors in the picture quality and color timing in many shots. I would also like to know why some things were corrected half-assed and most were still neglected altogether.

That guy really had some nerve not to include the original versions with the set and to insert "Nooooooo!" into ROTJ after the horrible reaction to Darth Vader's cliche "Nooooooo!" in ROTS. The color timing and transfer was bad enough, but then he had to go through and make even more half-baked changes that fans complained about in the DVD set. He doesn't even have the audacity to do it well when he is a billionaire and probably owns one of the most talented team of digital artists that could do almost anything for him. People even volunteered to restore the original trilogy themselves, but Lucas turned them down and insisted on making the DVD/Blu-ray set himself.

The bonus features aren't that great either. What's included is Ok, but there should have been a lot more. This is one of the most popular series of all time. The audio commentary sounds rushed and it could have covered a lot more interesting detail if they would have put more time into it. I also found the Blu-rays menus to be quite lacking. They lacked the fun interactivity of the DVD versions.

After all this ranting, I would just like to know if there was publicity on the making of the Blu-rays I missed before they came out and did Lucas publicly state ahead of time that he was making more changes before releasing the Blu-rays? I don't think so.

There will be ONE cut of ESBR, as opposed to the AVI, DVD-5, and DVD-9 cuts of ANHR.

There will be several official versions released:

- Blu-Ray 720p BD-25
- DL DVD PAL
- DL DVD NTSC
- 720p mkv
- Special features DVD-5 (only needed for mkv & DVD version as all these will feature on the Blu-Ray)

Ok, good to know. I bought double disc cases assuming there would be a special features disc, but since it will be on the Blu-ray disc, I will use the second slot for the DVD version instead. I may look into 4+ blu-ray disc holder cases for the "Star Wars Begins," "Building Empire," and "Returning to Jedi" set. Does anyone know where I can find those? I saw some 4 disc holder cases on amazon.

I got my blu-ray burner, blank inkjet printable Blu-ray discs and inkjet disc label printer ready to go. I am now waiting to download, burn, and print the disc labels & jacket and put it in my blank double disc Blu-ray cases I just bought at Microcenter. How will this be distributed? I assume through torrents?
