REVENGE OF THE NERDS (* unfinished project *)

Just popped in for my bi-annual post of encouragement for anyone who wants to help move this forward.

Here, here!

This was on Cinemax and AMC+ about a year ago with what looked like a 4k remaster.

Interesting. It’s not on D+ here in Australia, despite Bachelor Party (same studio, same year, same rating) and Nerds II being quite available. I believe they’ve buried it, probably because some of the content is, as they say nowadays, “problematic”.

Having not had any luck finding it on Usenet, just checking again if anyone here has the first disc of the TeamBlu edition and would be willing to share the files?

I’m specifically after the audio tracks (in particular the LD rip audio and the isolated scores!) to sync and remux with the Amazon rip of the theatrical cut that’s done the rounds recently, so if it’s easier for anyone to share those separately rather than the whole BD50, that would be a huge help. Please don’t let TeamBlu’s hard work fall into obscurity!

I’m not at all interested in the woefully pitiful BD25 Extended Blu-ray disc from this project, since the Australian Blu-ray disc is vastly superior, but for the BD50 USA Theatrical Cut. Of which I’d put with the USA Blu-ray disc

What exactly was “woefully pitiful” about it? It was great to have the missing cues in a stereo/surround format - which compliments the wonderful score. You still can’t get that option on any other release, legit or otherwise.

Interesting discovery, Lewis(!).

Quite coincidentally, a friend of mine messaged me this weekend asking if I had Nerds on blu ray because he couldn’t find it on any of the streaming sites. I myself noticed a while back that it was absent from Disney+ here in Australia (whereas the sequel is very much available on that service). I seriously hope that the movie isn’t being suppressed by it’s new owners due to one (or more) of it’s more “problematic” scenes. I mean, Bachelor Party is on D+ here, too, so it is rather odd that ROTN1 is nowhere to be found.

Hi U.N.!

It’s been a while. Any interest in picking up this project where it left off?

Even syncing the (cut) audio to the (cut) blu ray would be a step in the right direction.

I haven’t watched NERDS since I started this topic so I’m thinking a re-watch can’t be far away.

I’d hate to have to screen it in SD or with the blu ray’s terrible audio quality.

I have the DD2.0 audio from the DVD available for anyone who’d like to take a stab.

Cheers.

Excellent work Harmy. It’s great to see so much behind the scenes stuff from Temple of Doom. It’s legitimately my favorite movie of all time, and there’s not much content out there.

Good man. It’s not my all-time favourite, and I definitely rate it below Raiders, but man is ToD some outrageous fun. It’s criminally overlooked and, quite often, unfairly reviled - by fools who complain about the mushy peas while ignoring the perfect steak.

Thanks again for the purist version. I really cannot handle the “fill the screen” stuff that is becoming so commonplace.

Yes, thank you Harmy for that. If you ever revisit this in future, I have a request/suggestion: a purist black background version that is Constant Image Height. That way I can watch it on my 150" 2.35:1 projector screen without the film sequences being windowboxed. It would be a great pleasure to show others this favourite doco of mine in such a presentation.

Regardless, well done. Take a bow.

Good work, MWilson.

For those who are unsure, pretty much every shot in that brief sequence that includes the phone number on the For Rent sign (besides the long shot in the gym) has been chopped. It, of course, makes the scene almost unintelligible.

Looks like I missed the beta tape by just a coupla minutes. Should’ve paid closer attention. There were no bids so we’ll see if it comes around again.

I’ll hunt for that DVD soon (just moved house and my discs are still boxed up). Was it just the audio we were after?

Would the stereo track from the DVD be worth going after as well? There has been more than DVD edition, so not sure which one is the go to for that track.

Good question. I believe I have the US “Panty Raid” edition on DVD, which is meant to have the stereo track. I’d have to take a look through my collection to confirm it hasn’t gone missing in the past 10 years.

I can capture it and I’m in the USA. 😃

If that falls through we might get better results from a Beta Hi-Fi if it’s in good shape.

I’ll keep an eye on that, too, since my budget is limited and I could very well be outbid on the LD.

So, there’s a laserdisc up for bids on eBay.

Is there anyone willing and able to capture and share this (preferably in the US) if I throw a bid in? I’d need their delivery details up front.

Hopefully it goes for a little less than the 16mm print did…

Dude, that is sweet. What kind of projector is that?

The hurtin’ kind!

It’s a JVC X35 (or RS46 in the US). You’ll also find the lens memory function on some Sony and Panasonic projectors.
