A reference book about Star Wars magazines
Time

Hello,

this is a message to inform the community that I am working on a book which will described the way the original Star Wars movies were reviewed in the English spoken and French spoken press.

This study will be based on my own collection which features more than 2000 items (magazines, newspapers, clippings).

You may have an overview of this collection here : http://starwarsmagazines.online.fr

The book will be written in French, but I am intending to have it translated in English : in order to pay for the translation, I am thinking of raising fund for that project.

Please let me know your opinion about this issue : would you be interested in purchasing such a book ?

Best regards

Info: the Star Wars Japan fan club (1983)
Time

Hello

a new website has been appearing on the internet those last days :
http://thestarwarscollector.online.fr

The first page published is devoted to the Japan Star Wars fan Club : it features all the original kit, which has never been referenced or described on inter,et or in any book or article. This is the very first view of this unique Star Wars vintage memorabilia.

I will be glad to listen to your comments and share information with anyone interested in that issue.

Hmm... are these scope 8mm digests, or the full film?  Very curious...

also, more importantly, welcome to the forums!

Thank you !

These are full feature films copies.

I also have the digests - but the three films runs their complete duration.

There is one point I would like to stress about the successive new versions released by Mr Lucas : the fact that a few sfx may be fixed discreetly does not disturb me. I just wonder why they fixed tiny details, while the space slug (in Empire) is so ridiculous !

My personal dream would be to have the original cuts released with all lost scenes, and a few sfx fixed. And that's it !

P.S. : I own super-8 copies of the three original Star Wars movies (not 16mm). They are in English, widescreen, and stereo : no special editions, no additional FX or scenes. Just the original as we watched them back in the 70s and 80s.

Wow, you mean you have the Derann scope Super-8's? :-O That's awesome.

Derann released a super-8 copy of Star Wars in scope, and this is the one I own. But Empire and Jedi are copies that I found in Germany from an unknown source.

I don't think Derann ever issued copies of those two last movies.

The guy replied and sent several high-res scans. There's no doubt someone could come up with a great HBO DVD cover using the pages he scanned.

He is very nice and also very interested in the preservation work.  He also has a 16mm copy of Star Wars that he sometimes shows in private screenings.  If we have any members in France, maybe you can meet him in person and go to one.  I gave him a link to our site, so maybe he'll join and give us a look.  He sounds like a wealth of info and sympathetic to our cause.

Here are the files he sent;

Photobucket downsized them a touch, but they're still very good.  If you need the originals, PM me with an email address that accepts large attachments.

Hi everybody !

I am the "guy" and I thank you to welcome me among the members of your circle.

As much as my schedule allows it, I will try to take part to your discussions which are of great interest for me. As an early fan of the original trilogy (I was born in 1972), I am still hoping Lucas will change his mind about it...

I should be back soon around here !

Thank you for your enthusiasm :-)
