STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>
Time

Okay Ady, I gonna do the dick move here.

I am gonna be bit demanding.

Its April 2010 and I am going insane waiting for this.

Probably just out and out piss my pants in shock for just the trailer of Return of the Jedi Revisited trailer.

But I gonna ask what we are all thinking.

If you could put a percentage on how much is done I think we deserve it.

If it is less the 50% I will probably go on tower with a rifle or just do what the Plinkett Reviews guy does with the hookers in the crawl space.

This is all I could get done before I have to leave work:

Not sure on the accuracy of the comparison on this last one.  Looks like Ady fixed the scaling.  The frame is the same of the asteroids nearest the Destroyer.

Be careful, if you make look too clean it looks extra fake and breaks the illusion of the environment your trying to create.

Ie its an alien planet, not a sound stage with perfect lighting.

Same goes for the ships.

I've added a few more frames to the Alderaan sequence, just mock-up frames of the sort of effect I'd like to achieve with the shockwave across blasting the surface.

I would like to enhance the deleted scenes, very much so, but that will take time and they are never going to be anything like DVD quality, so I may keep them for a seperate workprint and use the new mattes for my Special Edition where I'm trying to keep everything the best possible quality. You're right, that SE painting of Ben's hut doesn't really work. Sure, it has more detail than the shot in the original, but it just isn't a very good painting.

I just notice one problem with the shot.

No glowing plantary core fragments.

nd very welcome two cents they are. I know exactly what you mean. I really hate to say it, but it seems the emotional detachment Lucas was lambasted for with the prequels is just as present in the original movie too. I mean, you're absolutely right; Leia's muted response to Alderaan being destroyed is really rather unsatisfactory. If you've heard the Radio Drama, you'll know what real pain should sound like with those wonderful scripts and performances.

However, as much as I find the emotional impact wanting, there is also the fact that Star Wars is a war movie, and the mentality of war and in the underground movements wasn't dissimilar to what we see. Loss was a daily occurrence, where anyone could disappear or die at any time, and you had to carry on regardless. As the exchange goes:

Rebel Commander: "When we heard about Alderaan, we feared the worst"

Leia: "We have no time for our sorrows, Commander."

So I can let it go with that perspective. But then, as you said Darth Plagueis, if I'm trying to imbue more emotional impact will it fit with the responses of the characters? Well, I guess we'll have to see. I must say I'm inclined to remove the planet surface shots, even if they work visually, as I like the momentum of the entire planet being obliterated by the shockwave uninterrupted.

Awesome simply awesome shots and something I brought up with Ady and you hit on the head, short of plasma wave following the shock wave burning everything you created the exact image in my mind...so get out of there and uh ignore what the ladies are doing behind the curtain.

But as for emotional impact for the scene there is an almost impossible shot to fix that.

A 3 second shot on Leia's face her face fixed in shock and mouth open and eye's welling up in tears but only one rolls down her cheek.  Its simple, powerful and incredibly difficult to get but there are few shots of her face doing just that pose but only for an instant. Plus it would have to be cut with Obi-wan's look of shock too at sensing the death of Aldreeran.

Now back to seriousness.....

The millennium falcon in the garbage is going to be fixed so it will look more natural without the sudden pause

See I always wanted it to be floating off axis like the garbage. Then reset its axis to straght and normal then do the loop and barrel roll out, same for Slave 1.

Also I have always wondered, was the Imperial Fleet already in the Bespin system since the Falcon had no hyperdrive?

Something like this doesn't need to be added. We already saw Luke begin his saber training in ANH. His dagobah training was the next stage. We never got to see all of his training and a scene was filmed where he uses his lightsaber to try and cut a metal rod into seven pieces but this was cut.

Looking at the shot lando lowers his head realising what he has done and as soon as CPO says his line and the trooper fires he dart out of the way. leia is slower to react because she is not really concentrating after she sees Slave 1 escaping with no way of rescuing Han. There is a very brief pause before they react so if possible i may move this line a few frames later.

The main problem is that the original footage has a very strong engine glow and its impossible to remove this to make it more toned down. The sound FX do seem a bit out of place in this shot though so something may be done, but this may happen when i get to the audio side of things

Its symbolism. Luke gets his hand cut off in ESB and when he becomes angry and cuts vaders hand off in ROTJ he looks down at vaders hand then at his own and sees the similarity between father and son and how close he is to being consumed by the dark side, like his father. This is what brings Luke back and the Emperor has failed to turn him.

Very nice. i'm really liking those.

I have tried to do something about this but its looking like nothing can be done short of building a puppet to replace him for this one shot, so not worth it. Even adding blinks wouldn't work because you wouldn't even notice it because he is too small in this shot.

Now while this is a good idea it does create a problem with all later shots of han. If this device produces so much heat to cause this amount of pain then why isn't his shirt scorched? Put something white next to an electric bar fire as close as han is to the device and see just what the heat would have done to his shirt. Just look how far away he is when he first reacts. that thing would have to produce some intense heat to cause a reaction like that. I've been thinking of adding some electrical arcs hitting han as he is lowered but i won't be adding a heat haze.

I replied to this in the ANH:R thread. The fade was always there in ANH until the SE came along and for some reason they omitted it (probably something to do with the added Jabba scene and the amount of wipes between the scenes). All i did was restore what was originally there, and had been for 20 years

Well at the moment i hit a brick wall. I don't want to start the falcon just yet because i've been planning out what needs to be built first so i can concentrate on the Rebel Hangar and the falcon. These are the things that need to be done in order:

1- Asteroid trench &new crater background  to replace the obvious matte used when the TIE bombers approach. The largest set pieces that definitely need to be done first so i can reclaim the space to continue with the next items.

2- Inside the slugs mouth -  another large set

3- Wampa. A lot of work to be done on this especially when it gets to attaching each individual hair to the puppets face

4- Hoth Shield generator / Stop motion AT-AT/ stop motion AT-ST. All the outdoor snow scenes out of the way.

5- bespin vane and shaft to replace 2D matte. another large set approx 6ft x 6ft

6- Leia's apartment exterior new model - to fix the problems with the interiors and exterior scale.

7 - Interior hangar to replace rebel transport matte

8- Millennium falcon and Hangar set

9- Modified MPC stardestroyer with fibre optic lighting and correct detailing to replace many cut and paste or badly composited  shots of the stardestroyers

10- Extra ships for the finale to replace obvious mattes and some camera movement problems with existing elements

Now i will be working on a few of these at the same time but some will need to be done individually. The falcon is going to take a long time to finish and with all the small parts i need to work on it without any other clutter. God some of those parts are microscopic.

Now the brick wall is that funding has gone. i have many of the materials but not all. you wouldn't believe how much plaster it takes to create a 11ft long 2.5ft high asteroid trench, and then there is the paints, wood and other materials for that set alone.

Now i was lucky with the fibre optics as i managed to get a job lot of 25 very large fibre optic UFO lamps for £5 off ebay.

And then theres the camera crane/ dolly i have to make so i can film all this stuff

So again i'm stuck. we got paid, had a small amount of spare cash which went immediately but managed to get only a small amount of the materials.

have i taken on too much? probably , yes, but i know i can do this. The results will be worth it and so much better than sticking with original elements, but its going to take a long time just to get the materials to get started on all this.

Wait what?

Plaster?

I thought you building everything in a computer to digitally matted, not building physical models and puppets.

I can understand things like the Falcon since it easier to use a physical model for reference for scale and detail.

So is that what you are doing or do have little ILM in room or in your case ILP, Industrial Light and Pron.

Dude  I don't know what you're talking about, if you are referring to the music towards the end of that clip its from the "Lady in the Water" OST by James Newton Howard.

What I meant was I have seen a reedit of the Obi-wan and Anikin saber fight on Mustufar. It made the fight less inevitable and more holy crap its on.

It replaced John Williams with Bear McGradys sound track from nBSG.

The heavy drums and such made it more like, ironically that you might not know how it was going to end.

sketchrob said:

Yeah agreeing it should have been done is one thing, coming up with footage that doesn't exist for the edit is another.

If Ady wants it he could find a way.

Just a quickie here. A few people have asked me about the difference in picture quality between the 2004 DVD's and the 720p version of Revisited. I'm really surprised that some people are saying that there isn't a noticeable difference between an upscaled DVD and a 720p video and that i am wasting my time doing this in 720p when an upscaled DVD would look the same and it would take me less time to go back to working with DVD res.

Well here is a snapshot showing the difference. The DVD has been upscaled to 720p using a high quality upscaler. Now tell me that an upscaled DVD looks as good as HD. If you do you need to go to specsavers. lol

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Just make sure you click on the image after it loads to give you the full res.

Is that with or without the color correction?

Because either way,

MY EYES, MY EYES!

THE GOGGLES THEY DO NOTHING!

Wow...that's a serious difference....and it's not even 1080!

Ehh.....

1080P is better for computers, since most people can't tell the difference between 1080P and 720P movies.

Based on that it should at least carbon scar the entire visible underside that follows the path of the blade.

Unless Ady wants to mantain that the AT-AT's armor is too strong to show such damage, which is fine since the concept that a Lightsaber can 'cut through anything' I always did find a little silly.

As a completely non-OT:R subject but related to Ady's mock-up, I would also suggest making Mace the only Jedi to confront Palpy.  This may be a nightmare to edit (both visually and auditory), but if pulled off would add a lot to Mason J. Windu's character.  Just something to file away until 2019....

i will be doing that.

Cool, saves all of those Jedi from dying in the dumbest way imaginable.

What I always though when the fight was about to happen, was what we saw in ROTJ and later in The Force Unleashed.

They confront him, Sidious cracks a smile and huge wave of force lighting the others with Mace crumple to the floor in smoky heaps and or fetal positions. Windu is all that is left standing, Mace does the squint/look of determination and fight goes as before.

Or right before that Sidious does his 'Strike me down, but use all your hate or you will not survive.' Then the 'unlimited power'.

By the time you get around to the prequels they will be on Blu Ray, with new transfers and a CG Yoda in TPM so the coloring isssues may well be moot.

*checks*

Yup, still GL running things, so no nothing will be improved.

I image Ady will have to fix the TPM CGI Yoda too.

Even if GL announces a big project for the Blue-ray release, ie a new master digital print for the HD and another wave CGI updates (I still feel Ady will get ripped off if GL does that since the things in ANH feel too professional for GL to not do himself) certin things will still not be fixed and Ady or another will have to go back and redo them.

Though video editing software in 10 years might be little better.

ChainsawAsh said:

It was actually the Director's Guild of America.  Since he refused to put Irvin Kershner, a DGA member, in the opening credits of ESB, even though Kershner didn't care, the DGA wanted to fine them a shit-ton of money and IIRC kick Kershner out of the DGA.  To protect his director, Lucas himself accepted the fine and quit the DGA.

This had the unforunate drawback of preventing him from ever hiring a Guild director again - and Spielberg was (and still is) a member of the DGA.  So he hired UK director Richard Marquand instead.

Actually it gets even more complicated.

GL always had permission from the DGA and SAG (Screen Actors Guild) to do SW this way, but FOX never forgave GL for outsmarting them when came to merchandising (which didn't exist in any real form before SW) but the very concept of creator/director having that much power upset them and other studios. So they used their influence to create the incident with the Guild to either derail TESB or RTOJ.

GL found this out only later and that is why he left the DGA.

(Or that is the story from the head of FOX who green lit SW in 1976 and was asked to leave FOX for how much power and influence he let GL have for the original SW.)

Rumor I heard was that GL won't even start the SW Blue-ray release project till after the next Indy movie staring Shia LeBoeuf.

Indy IV flashback.

*shutters*

But I wonder what if any changes GL will make, but everyone should be on alert now, the moment the project gets green lighted or is near release. Lucas Arts will demand all fan projects stop.

Just like game mods for StarCraft 2 right before SC2 was announced.

I noticed in the extra's on the DVD.

Pretty good for a rough cut, but yeah it appeared too busy, too distracting and too out of place.

Though if it had stayed in orbit as if observed by Leia on the DS and Vader forcing her to watch, it could work...maybe.

But I am leaning toward your call.

1. no i didn't make the world blue so as not to confuse it with tatooine.  It was done to mirror Endor. the Death Star is being constructed above a world where there is plenty of materials needed. I really can't see why people say its too much like Alderaan when its a different colour and also why they never complain about yavin IV being so similar to Alderaan.

2. the planet is supposed to be destroyed in an instant. I made a deleted scene where the planets destructions is extended and it really lost the impact of that explosion. Its all there in Obi-Wan's lines just after the explosion so extending it in any way makes his speech redundant. "suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced". it had to be instantaneous. sometimes less is more.

Ahh, to look like Endor....I don't get it?

...

j/k.

Seriously, now makes total sense.

As for the DS blast, the image I had was that hits the planet and then a shock wave blows across the planet stipping off the atmosphere and then the planet explodes.

1) Super Laser fires, then close up of planet to witness impact.

2) Still in near orbit close up, shock wave moves across surface stripping atmo as surface glows red and orange as it burns.

3) Final pull back planet surface glows rear like halo effect around planet and then explodes.

Total time 3 to 6 seconds, all life dead in first 2 seconds.

But then again I like my planetary genocide nice and flashy.

Now that I have you though, I noticed you still didn't add anything to the glass panels in the Yavin rebel control room, no inserts so the people are still just standing staring at nothing on them.

Was hoping for Epo. V you would insert graphic on the panels in the rebel Hoth control room.

I am wow'ed.

Only two little things.

1) I understand why you made the DSI construction world blue so as not to confuse it with Tatooine. But it looks too much like Alderaan, it would have looked better Geonosis like or Mustafar like world.

2) I never liked how the DS weapon destroyed Alderaan, it was too fast and felt fake. I always wanted it more in the vein of Kilrath in WC3.
