Misquoted by accident. And “true statements” lol.

I have a lot of knowledge about edits, and access to many old ones. But your constant off-topic bitching about TFA in this thread (some of which, like the ridiculous Ken and Barbie thing, borders on offensive, or at least is nonsensical) makes me not want to help.

If misquoting

Do you need an explanation of what the word “accident” means?

If you are going to continue to take shots at me then you better not misquote me. And your continued and ridiculous guise of “wanting to help” is beyond transparent and just plain foolish. Your last post more than proves my point.

If misquoting and misrepresentation is your idea of help then I would prefer you not offer any more help.

Then you might want to avoid saying things like Strong Bumbling Barbie and Bumbling Ken.

I never wrote “Strong Bumbling Barbie”, you are definitely misquoting me. Why?

Barbie was in fact very “Strong” and very “Brunette” as I stated.
Barbie did meet Ken
Ken was Bumbling throughout the movie.

All true statements as far as I can tell.

Not sure in what context you are trying invoke the “then” part of your argument
since my last post was singularly suggesting that we play nice with Fan Editors
so they continue to donate time to creating edited episodes which may turn out far
better than the originals. Episode I was greatly improved in my opinion.

With all of the above being said, I’d just like to add 3 small caveats, with no aggressive intentions:

  1. You can criticize something and appreciate it at the same time; they are not mutually exclusive.

  2. If it’s ok to criticize George Lucas, then it’s ok to criticize a fan who has changed George Lucas’s work

  3. Fan editors do their work knowing that people will have responses, and if they get offended they are fully capable of speaking up for themselves.

Good Points, both Lucas and Fan Editors will make decisions that I or you might not like and that’s to be expected.

But don’t forget George Lucas made like 10 billion from creating Star Wars. He was very well paid to deliver something. The Fan Editors do it for free so that’s why my thinking is that we want to encourage them as best we can by using delicate wording when offering suggestions. That’s my only point here.

HAL and I have communicated via private messages and I made sure there were no hard feelings or personal offense taken. I completely agree with every word of what you’ve said about the gratitude fan editors deserve for their work, and I have expressed gratitude to HAL for his wonderful edits.

My comments are primarily motivated by a desire to see these edits be as good as they can possibly be. I can see why you would call my “no excuse” wording “unfortunate”, and I admit I could have made the point less forcefully, but I was never intentionally implying that Cloak of Deception is a bad fan edit or that HAL is a bad editor

I just discovered fan edits for the first time about a week ago so I am new to this scene. I am very happy with the ep I rework that I watched. It’s a huge improvement. And being able to watch ep IV with the mono mix allows me to hear all the sound effects they changed or cut out after 1977. So when I read your post I was like… wow, I hope this doesn’t encourage other people to jump in and get all critical. So I was trying to warn everyone to use kid gloves when discussing fan edits.

Just imagine the cruel and inhumane tribulation Fan Editors will undergo trying to salvage the disaster that is ep VII. How do you un-blowup Hosnian Prime to bring back the Senate? There’s no intergalactic politics, struggle, or credible plot without it. Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma are just plain weak. The Fan Editors will suffer greatly with Disney’s “Strong Brunette Barbie meets Bumbling Ken” singular plot.

Even if you use the OT as your only reference, they make it very clear that Luke could not be considered a “Jedi” until his training was 100% completed. So that still presents a problem with calling Obi Wan a “Jedi Knight” at the beginning of Episode I.

Your logic is correct, but to be honest, I didn’t even notice until you pointed it out.

But seriously, Hal and countless other Fan Editors have donated obscene amounts of time to create true works of Art for us to enjoy. They didn’t have to share it with the world but they did, so everyone should be beyond grateful and appreciative in every possible respect. I think Hal 9000 deserves a lot better than the unfortunate wording “I don’t think any fan editor has an excuse for not fixing it”.

Wow, harsh review of The Godfather. Personally, I think it still holds up.

I guess whoever created that image left too much up to the viewer to interpret.
(or misinterpret) It should have said “The Force Awakens is SO BAD it makes the
Phantom Menace look like The Godfather”. I honestly never disliked Disney before
December. Star Wars ends at Episode VI for me.

Nice details catbus… The more I watch Despecialized, the more scenes
I find where RESPECIALIZED kills it. When is Despecialized v3.0 coming out?

If RESPECIALIZED could be edited to make it Despecialized on the
dozen screens that Lucas futz’ed without losing any picture quality that
would be epic! (Han must shoot first) And the 3 DTS-HD-MA mixes need to
be added.

Remarkable efforts for both cuts… I’ll never watch my DVD versions again.

The Pioneer Kuro is ruthless in showing flaws OR greatness.

I noticed that Despecialized reports 720p while RESPECIALIZED reports 540p.
So they were remastered differently.

I A/B’ed many scenes and I consistently see the same results. It seems like
sharpness enhancement, noise reduction, and a slight color boost was performed
on RESPECIALIZED compared to Despecialized.

When the Imperial Destroyer tracker beam’s Leah’s ship in the opening scene,
Both ships have more 3D POP, less grain, less video noise, and more saturated
colors on the RESPECIALIZED version.

Also colors are very different in many scenes. The scene where Tarkin says
“Set your course for Alderaan” the entire scene is greenish and blurry on
Despecialized while with RESPECIALIZED the scene is super sharp with no green
tone at all.

I am using a media player so I can do quick A/B’s. At all times I am locking
the signal at 720P and allowing my Kuro to perform the upscale to 1080P.

Thanks a bunch Aluminum Falcon, You got right to what I needed.

I downloaded Harmy Despecialized and Harmy Respecialized and watched
45 mins of each so far going back and forth every 10 mins.

I really like the truer story and extra bits of footage in Despecialized.
The audio also seems more organic/natural on Despecialized. And Han
must shoot first!

But on my Pioneer Kuro Plasma, Respecialized has significantly better
picture quality. Objects have more depth perception, there is less
grain, and the the images look sharper, everything looks cleaner and
more polished. It looks awesome!

So I’m 50/50 on which I like more.

It looks like L8wrtr and Hal9000 have Ep I-III all locked up.
Between L8wrtr and Hal9000, does one of them make for better picture quality?
(I’ll probably try all 3 from each of them)

And allow me to ask for best 2 selections for episode V + VI.

I won’t be buying episode VII on Bluray. Disney destroyed the franchise.
Blew up the senate? Killed off Han? No intergalactic politics? No plot?
It’s 10 times worse than episode I IMHO. I never hated Disney so much.

Thanks again for all your advise…

There seem to be countless fan edits for each Star Wars episode.
Which version of each episode is considered to be the best?

For IV there are many options:
Harmy Despecialized
Harmy Respecialized
2004 Special Edition Revisited

Episode I has so many options its unreal:
Shadow of the Sith
Attack of the Federation
Cloak of Deception
Return of the Sith
Fall of the Jedi

Thanks for the help…
